The acid mantle of the skin is 5.5. I am wondering if a cleanser with a ph around neutral is already damaging/irritating for the skin then?
What if I apply a toner with a lower ph3 over it right away? Is the damage done already or will this make it okay? |

look at the other ingrediants in your product too, if it contains irritants, harsh detergents and such - any pH is an issue, But its worse with an alkiline one and an irritant ingrediant.
Ideally, for best skin health you want to stay around 5.5, but 5.5 to 7.0 can be acceptable, depending on your skin, just realize the higher you go the more issues you can have. Once you get past 7 pH then acne bacterium start to multiply faster. The higher you go, the worse this gets.
If your cleanser is 5.5 but has a harsher detergent that is better then a 7.0 pH with the same detergent.
Some people can deal with this fine others can't. But if you are having issues, this is one place you can tweak things.
The damage occurs immediatly, as soon as the detergents and high pH hit the skin, it is instant. |
