I hear in general you use only a pea size amount of Retin A for the whole face.
I hear also about using more, like an inch of product.
Reason: Pea size amount is supposedly just to treat acne. For anti aging purposes you need to use more.
I thought that its a pea size for anti aging as well as if used for acne.
Which is true? What does your dermatologist say? |

you're going to hear from both camps on this. I find that using more than even a SMALL pea makes my skin very grumpy, and I've been using the stuff for 2 years. But some people don't have any issues with it whatsoever. I would do a google search on using larger quantities and see if you can find a study on it and see if there is enough of a difference to bother using 5 times more of a very expensive product. |

You didn't mention your skin type & age & that may influence the amount to use.
My derm first introduced me to Retin A to control oil, & as an anti-aging product. Never instructed using a pea size for whole face, but has always suggested not rubbing it to agressively on the skin.
Well into my 60s now(OMG!) but skin is amazingly good thanks to the oil well & hide that is my skin. I would say I use more than a pea size for my whole face, apply it gently, sometimes just tapping it on, depending on the strength. I use two formulas, the stronger for the T zone and weaker for rest of face/neck.
But if your skin is on the sensitive side, perhaps a smaller amount is advisable. |

Thanks for replying - Im basically doing this for prevention. Even in my late thirties I have not developed any wrinkles, maybe subtle fine lines around the eyes, but thats all. I want to make sure my skin stays firm/prevent sagging as well as prevent wrinkling.
What do you think - is a small amount in this case enough? Is more better if I can tolerate it? I only started three weeks ago, so Im not trying to rush into this. I just like to know how to proceed from here on. My skin is not overly sensitive, but a little I would say. I get a sun burn easy (not that i alow this to happen LOL) Also more on the dry side. |
