Hi Everyone…
This is the first time ever I have posted a message on a forum….so bear with me!
I discovered EDS a few years ago, but only discovered this forum a few days ago…I don’t know how I missed it! It’s brilliant! You guys are so full of knowledge and experience which you are keen and willing to share with everyone…thank you so much.
Anyway, I wanted to ask your opinion before I place my next order with EDS. I am 31, of Indian origin and have fairly good skin. I did suffer from minor breakouts last year but the products I am using right now helped regulate my skin. I do have naturally dry skin and suffer from eczema on parts of my body, though not at the moment on my face. I still get a spot or two now and again, and I have large visible pores on my cheeks. I have a few spots of pigmentation on my face too, though very minor. The products I use right now are: ( All from Decleor)
Foaming facewash
Gel purete – exfoliator: but it hasn’t done much for me
Derma floral toner/ the toner that has replaced it
Neroli oil – brilliant has helped regulate my skin big time
Prolagene gel – am not sure but I think this has helped get rid of scars left by spots
Hydra floral – day cream
Neck gel – I don’t think this works for me
Balm essential – night cream not every night though – its grt
I am about to finish my jar of Hydra Floral and many of the other products including the toner and exfoliaitor. From the reviews I have read I am going to order Dermalogica’s Microfoliant which sounds awesome. However can anyone advise me which day cream to go for? I don’t have to stick with Decleor, and I really want a cream which has SPF which the current Hydrafloral doesn’t have. After reading the forums I have realized I don’t use any SPF – that’s bad news isn’t it??!!
You guys seem to recommend Vitamin C serum highly, but I really don’t know which one to choose. Any recommendations for minimizing appearance of large pores? I have read about Epidermx (microdermabrasion or something like that!) – is this any good…the website raves about it…not this one greatnewskin.com. Best toner?
Any help for all of this would be most appreciated as I am confused. Thanks in advance for any help.
(I have taken your advise and ordered Nioxin for thinning hair – hope it works – my hair is noticbly thinner than a year or so ago – am taking extra vitamins too – mainly the B vitamins – anything else you guys would recommend?)
Lots of questions there…thanks for taking the time to read my post…I hope I can be of help to someone soon!
Much appreciation...

Hi Nikita,
Welcome to the forum! I was like you, in that I found the EDS website quite a while before I realised that there was a forum here too
I'm a big fan of the Microfoliant, so I always keep recommending it to people too It's just a great daily exfoliator and it brightens and evens out the skin tone as well.
I definitely think you should be using SPF, and you have three choices really. You can go for a separate one and layer it over the moisturiser, you can go for a 2-in-1 product, or you can just use a normal moisturiser and leave the SPF to your makeup (if you wear it). I assume you're after a 2-in-1 deal. I'm using Dermalogica Sheer Tint Moisture SPF15 (it also comes untinted though). I also really like the Murad Energizing Pomegranate Moisturizer, which has SPF15 as well. And I'm sure others on the forum will suggest additional ones that you might like to try.
In terms of Vit C serums, I think the brand that you get really just depends on your preference and what you trust and what you don't. I have Vivier at the moment and that's my fave from all the ones I've tried. Other people might prefer the Skinceuticals (which is very popular). Remember that moisturising serums are very important when you are using vit C serums. So you'd need to get the B5 gel as well, or you might find your skin drying out.
Hope that helps a bit

Hi Mabsy...
Thanks so much for replying...I really appreciate it...
I dont use make up every day..so a 2 in 1 deal is def. the way forward for me...thanks for all the reccomendations..i'll see if EDS will send me some samples...but is SPF 15 enough? I found a Gatineau one with SPF 50 or something!!
Thanks for telling me about the moisturising gel...I knew nothing about that...what is that for? And what does the Vit C serum actually do anyway? (Daft question perhaps but I really dont know!)
Thanks again for the wisdom!
Take care,
Nikita |

Hi Nikita,
While I'm not totally clued up on these things (being male..hehe) seeing as I'm also indian I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth here, I'm 29 now but during a period when I was getting some breakouts my derm advised me to use an spf of at least 30, basically I believe the reason behind this is because darker skin like ours is more prone to hyperpigmentation therefore we have to be more careful. I'm using Skinceuticals Ultimate defense spf 30 which I like and which perhaps you could get a sample of but I'm sure all the wonderful ladies of this forum can advise you on others!
Take care,

The B5 gel is to counteract the drying effects of vit C. Vit C is an antioxidant. In terms of skincare it aims to prevent and, to an extent, reverse the effects of the sun & environment on your skin. Depending on your skin and its condition, some of the effects you might see are: smoother features, improved skin clarity, fading of older scars.
Whether SPF15 is enough really depends on your lifestyle in my opinion. On a normal working day I only spend a short period of time in the sun, so I'm quite comfortable with using SPF15 on those days. If I was going to the beach or I was planning to spend more time outdoors then I would go for something higher. DDF make a moisturiser with SPF30: DDF Moisturizing Photo-Age Protection SPF 30.
Deepak - Welcome to the forum!

Deepak - LOL I hope you've cleared your weekend and are ready to start posting!
Nikita - I takes me *forever* to decide what to get on EDS. Mainly because I start with a long list and try to narrow it down... And, very often, a few days after I place an order someone posts a review of something that I just really have to try
Hmmm, yes, regarding the number of posts I've made. Um, I dunno. I just really like it here and it helps that I love trying out new skincare stuff too

ww.cellularskinrx.com
Why this one?
1. 12% concentration as much as skin can absorb and will not irritate.
2. L-ascorbic acid is only form of vitamin c that skin does not have to metabolize. Other forms like magnesium ascorbyl palmitate have to be metabolized by skin into l-ascorbic acid then used. Makes them less effective.
3. It is stabilized in a simple glycol solution. It will be effective for 6 months. (Only lasts 2-3 though if used daily as it should be.)
4. It's 1/2 the price of the other big brands - Cellex C, Skinceuticals.
My skin texture has improved, brown spots have faded off, and the firmness I had when I was 10 years younger is back after about two months of using.
Good luck! |

hey Nikita,
No problem regarding the advice, hope it's of some use! I think guys are really starting to get into skincare as well, personally I feel that if women go to all the trouble they do for us then we really ought to be doing the same for them. My interest in skincare started because I had issues with mild acne in my early twenties, to cut a long story short I got kind of demoralised with the endless cycle of antibiotics. Couple of years back I just decided enough was enough, I stopped going to the derm, tried a couple of alternatives, ie, accupunture, herbal stuff and basically learning about products which would be suitable for my skin. Though things are by no means perfect they've never been better, mood has improved no end after all the side effects of the antibiotics as well. Must admit from things I've read on the net the derms in other countries seem far more clued up and far more helpful than those over here (bit of a generalisation I know - I just think they seem to understand the psychological effects of acne/skin issues far more, something that they need to understand is that it isn't only women who can feel down about their skin!) The other stuff I use is mainly by Phytomer, as well as it being non irritating I find that it's still very manly, the marine scent is great! Do let us know how things progress with the pigmentation, might help me too! - oh and have a great weekend as well!
Mabsy - give me a couple hundred years and I might just make that 1000th post! problem is by then you be on your millionth post. |

WOW, it's so good to see a guy who takes the time to take care of his skin AND takes the time to do some research about suitable products too!
Believe me, it's not all that hard to get to 1000 posts... It's a bit addictive - there should be a warning about that as you log in! |

betterat40:
Thanks for the reccomendation...I have had a look at the website you mentioned and the products do sound good....there are so many choices of Vit C serum I am totally confused! However...as you mention this particular brand is half the price of all the others so thats a big plus!! I'll let you know how I get on!
Thanks!
Mabsy.... :
I stiiiiiiiil havent finalised my order....in fact im more confused than when i first started....which vit c serum...which B5 Gel....and so on and so on..........!!!! I am trying to read as many of the (very useful) posts on here as possible to help me make up my mind.....but I know this is going to take a long long time..........
Regardless of which serum etc I did go for in the end would I be able to use them in conjunction with my Decleor Neroli oil? Or would it be unwise to 'mix and match'??
Deepak.....
Isn't it wierd how most of us only start paying attention to our skin when something actually goes wrong with it....I was the same....only used Nivea till a few years ago...suffered from a few breakouts which I hadnt ever done before...and then discovered Decleor....(and what a clenser and toner is!)....
I've heard a lot about the Phytomer range too....but havent ever tried any of it....
Will let you guys know how i get on....when I finally place an order, recieve the products and start using them!!! (Which could be a VERY long time!! )
Thanks again!!!
Regards,
Nikita |

Mabsy - thanks for the compliment and definitely watch out, I'll knock out those 1000 posts out in no time.
Nikita - you're spot on (excuse the pun) it's only when we have problems that most of us start panicking and in my case going from a bar of soap to knowing how to cleanse/tone/moisturise/exfoliate and masking! I must admit I do get worrried sometimes at this interest becoming an obsession, sometimes when flicking through the channels if I happen to stumble across a home shopping channel I'm hooked as the models get the creams/lotions etc put all over them, this actually brings me on to another point. Here I am being really careful about what I use, when I use them etc and those models can get away with having all sorts of different products put on within a few seconds of one another, no reaction, no redness, just flawless skin, lucky so and so's!
Hope you guys had a good weekend! |

betterat40,
Mine should be "hoping to be better at 48" You've got me interested in that vit.c serum. I was just about to order Vivier 20%. Have you tried other Vit. c serums to compare? How is it for an oily skin? Does it absorb well? Thank you. |

I tried Cellex-C and Skinceuticals but switched to C+ Firming Serum because of cost. It's 12% which I have read is about as high a concentration as your skin can absorb. The extra 8% just gets wasted. Just like when you take 1000mg of C and then it gets excreted - body just can't absorb it all. I love mine. Low ph, stable, no skin irritation, no drying...Good luck! |

Sorry I forgot to answer your questions....
I have oily t-zone - no problem with oiliness. Absorbs completely and leaves no residue whatsoever. I really do love this stuff. |

hi dear
Nikitta
I was trying to read all reply and to tell you the truth.
I thing because , you are only 31 years old so there is no need to think much about what to use. You will need Vit -C only up to 10% strength. I have been used for the past year 10% vit -c from Vivier before my moisturizer and i noticed right way difference, maybe in a two weeks my pores on the nose start tightens up.
so don't hesitate just ask for samples there so good and you will now the best |

Hi everyone...
Margarita...thank you for your advice...I wasnt intending to get more than 10% strength due to my could be sensitive skin ( i know MBL its not fair is it?? Mabsy you "lucky so and so"!!)...
My dilemma is choosing which brand to go for...Vivier, Cellex C or Skinceuticals ( ive spelt that wrong i know)....I have read good things about all three....and then theres the one that ure reccomending betterat40....i just dont know!!
So as yet..I have not placed my order...
Take care!!

Nikita,
I also prefer Vivier to Skinceuticals (I think you DID spell it correctly - or we're both wrong ). My reason is that it feels more "substantial" to me that the Serum 10. Serum 10 to me felt like water (I can't remember if I found it sticky - it was a while ago). Directly after applying the Vivier serum my skin doesn't feel dry at all - it did after the Skinceuticals serum from what I recall.
I think it would be good if you could get samples of the different serums available. Or at least decide on one now but don't forget to ask for samples of the other ones so you can compare them all before you buy your next bottle.

Nikita,
I am using Vivier 10 serum myself, the texture is light and absorb into the skin right away. You can try getting the sample first to see how you like it. I am still in my testing period.....I did write to EDS weeks ago and ask about the similar concern you have there ( about NEROLI oil + VIT C), and the response I got was it is alright to use them together ( VIT C followed by the " Decleor oils" in the morning). But I actually prefer to use the Decleor's in the evening with my other serum and only use VIT C +Hydra B5 gel+ Sunblock in the morning. Oh, by the way, my skin is normal/combo with a tendency to breakout on chin......HTH |

Nikita,
I can't imagine what someone could be thinking about telling you it is alright to use oil-based anything after a Vitamin C serum. Vitamin C will break down (even stable C) in the face of an oil-based moisturizer if applied immediately after the C. That is why so many mftrs. recommend the use of a water-based moisturizer if a dry skin user is trying a topical C. I do love my C+ Firming Serum. It's 12% so in-between the sensitive C from Skinceuticals and their 15%. I don't know anything about the Vivier. Is it stable l-ascorbic acid? Anyway, I know how confusing all this can be. I did a lot of research before I ended up with my cellularskinrx.com brand. I love that it works and that it is so reasonably priced. The only thing is I know that they are too small to mail out samples. I live in Austin and they are based here so I was lucky to attend a show and they were giving them out there. Anyhow, good luck! |
