I was trying to search my answer but for some reason google advanced search gives me a lot of EDS forum archives rather than relevant posts.
I'm sure a lot of members can help me with this one:
I've been using Proheal for a long time but it's not really working for me. It just doesn't give me the results I'm looking for, in a way I don't see it doing anything for my skin at all. When I tried Skinceuticals 20% I noticed a brighter, more even skin tone (which is what my goal is) but I didn't like the texture or smell of the SC. It was drying yet sticky and it irritated my skin a little bit - I get itchy sometimes after applying.
So now I'm looking for a another Vit C and am thinking of either Cellex-C's Advanced High Potency (17.5%) or PSF Vit C - not sure about the 12% or the 20%. PSF is more economical for me at this point but I'm not sure how oily/sticky the texture is. I am very acne prone, not really oily anymore and actually a bit dehydrated but anything too rich in texture will still break me out. Also is there a Vit C I can use w/o using an HA gel/serum afterwards? I'm almost out of my Phyto Corrective Gel and want to cut this part out of my routine since I'm planning to get PSF Berry Beneficial when it gets stocked at EDS.
Thanks so much in advance! |

I haven't tried the Cellex-C Advanced Serum but I have been using the High Potency Serum for the past year and absolutely love it. I use it in the morning and it was easy to incorporate it with my other products. |

Thanks Yen - do you follow it up with the B-5?
Anyone else? Come on, you guys aren't telling me NO ONE has used either PSF Vit C or Cellex-C?! |

I would follow up with the Hydra 5 B-Complex if I had any on hand, otherwise I would follow it up with my moisturizer. I don't find a difference in efficacy. I do love the silky feeling of my skin after the Hydra 5 gel though. |

when TSC had the Cellex C special, I caved and bought the set...
The C serum is just like water, very thin. I thought it was difficult to apply on my face evenly. It was also very drying and I absolutely cannot imagine using it in the winter in Toronto. So after 2 weeks of trial..I sent the whole set back..
Ever though about giving Candy's C serum a try? |

I have used the Cellex-C high potency serum for about two weeks now. I am loving it. I can feel my skin is brightening up (my be due to some psychological factor), however, it is very easy to absorb. I like the way that I don't use my finger to touch the product itself, minimized the possibility of contamination. It is so easy to use with all other products that I've already have. I will see how long it last though. |

Yeah, I thought about it but I don't think I need a Vit C serum with Vit E. I want to use Vit C for its antioxidant properties, complement sun protection properties, and brightening/evening skin tone properties. I'm young so don't need a complicated C serum to help collagen synthesis - also a reason why I did not try ISC's Super Serum.
From your description it sounds a lot like Skinceutical's - I found them to be very watery and thin, dried my skin out but felt sticky after application. My proheal feels more "oily" but absorbs without stickiness, it just doesn't give me results. |

sormuimui I used the Proheal and tried a sample of the Cellex-C Advanced C serum.
The Advanced C did give me a "glow" like no other C serums did but I think that was probably due to the fact that it was irritating my skin in a subtle way. I have a feeling that the same thing was happening to you with the Skinceuticles 20% serum. While the "glow" may look nice if it is due to irritation it is very bad for your skin! If dehydration is a concern then the Advanced C is probably not a good choice. I found it very drying.
Honestly at your age I would be surprised if you did notice any significant improvements with C serums. I am 38 and I know that I haven't really experienced anything that made me say WOW.
If you want a C serum that you can use without HA then you might want to consider the SkinMedica C Complex. This is what I have been using and I really like this C serum. It is in a silicone base but it does not feel unpleasant like some silicone based products do. I have said this before but I really prefer the feel of the SkinMedica to the stickiness of other C serums. |

Thanks Theresa!
The main difference I found between the Proheal and the SC was that the SC helped lighten my acne redness/pigmentation while the Proheal didn't do much and still doesn't do much. So in this way the SC evened out my skintone. It definitely irritated my skin because it sometimes made me itchy but it didn't give me a "glow" per se. It made me look brighter in the sense that sometimes if I don't get enough sleep or am fatigued my skin is more dull and more "yellow" and the SC brightens it up making me look more awake. That's why I think C serums will work for me, I just have to find the right now. Thanks for the advice on the Advanced Serum - it really helped me decide what to try next and I'll definitely look into your recommendation!
I am very acne prone though, do you think over time the silicones will cause congestion? |

I am not sure about silicones and acne but at least for me my acne has improved since I have been using the SkinMedica. It seemed that the other C serums I had used made my acne worse because they were too strong and too drying. I have read that acne-prone individuals cannot tolerate strong C serums and while I guess it depends at least I have found this to be true for me! |

I like skinmedica as well and I have oily skin. It works very well. It's just a relief to have a reliable C serum in a portable tube that you don't have to constantly check for oxidation. For those who layer, I don't think (don't quote me but I'm assuming) PH is an issue with this product since it's essentially a lotion-Theresa correct me if I'm wrong..but I think this can be used with an alkaline dmae. |

marina here is my non-expert take on using the SkinMedica C and alkaline DMAE. While the C serum technically does not have a pH because it has no water the ascrobic acid in the serum still needs an acidic environment to work properly. I would think that applying DMAE at the same time (or even with a short wait period) would raise the pH of your skin too much and cause conflicts with the C serum. Your question is very interesting though and hopefully someone that is and expert will be able to say for sure! |

I am surprised there's no vote for the PSF Vit Cs!!! I have been thinking of the PSF 12% - it sounds basic and cheap. Am I in the wrong direction here? |

former Pro-Heal user here. i just got Candy's C (20%) and HA and am loving them both! instant glow and they feel like water. i know you don't think you need everything in her C, but you have nothing to lose by ordering a sample. it is soooo nice!!! Candy's got dry skin so i'm seriously doubting you'll have a problem with it drying you out. i'm not dissing the others (i've simply never tried them), but you should get a sample of Candy's. BTW: i'm one of those that does break out madly with the 'cones -- to the extent i cannot even use them in my hair products. |

Thanks la vie en rose! Just wondering - is the HA a must after the Vit C or do you think I can use the Vit C alone. Is there a purpose to applying the HA afterward apart from instant hydration? |

no. i don't think you need to at all! though Candy's HA is more like water as well -- *very* different from Hydra-Cool (though i kind of liked the cool colour). (i just used to use the Hydra-Cool with Pro-Heal because my face was a mess without its inclusion.) if all you want is the C, Candy's C alone should be fine. no HA necessary. |

Thanks again! I think I'm nearly over the edge, gonna PM Candy for more information.
Would still love to get more feedback on PSF's Vit C though, I've read a lot of the old PSF threads so I'm really interested in hearing from those users again, or any other current users. |

I have used both and am using PSF 20 at the moment which I love. My skin is quite dry and the psf has HA in it so its perfect though I dont think HA causes breakouts ....I have had no itching or redness with this product ...Cellex C was great too though more watery and seemed a little harsher but did work well... I guess I would have to say go with the PSF its cheaper and you dont need to get another HA product . I will keep re ordering this product (well until another new vit c comes on the market that tempts me) |
