LIVING NATURE HYDRATING GEL MASK
The fourth in my beautybible.com test reviews...
Those Antipodeans certainly seem to like their naturally inspired products. Here's another one, and I'm certainly not complaining!
At first glance, it doesn't look as though there's much product in this translucent demi-cylindrical plastic container with a flip-top. But you need only a surprisingly small amount of gel for each use as a face mask.
The blurb on the container tells me that the mask contains manuka honey and nourising oils. Also, that it's meant "to enrich skin and replenish moisture."
Instructions are: "Smooth onto clean face and neck, avoiding eye area. Leave approx 20 mins, rinse with tepid water. Use weekly."
Therefore, I've been using this mask once a week for the last 4 weeks.
One particularly overwhelmingly noticeable thing about this product is the smell (or should that be stench?) I have to say that I almost gagged when I first caught a whiff of it. Imagine honey mixed with pungent manure - now you've got the idea. My husband can tell when I'm wearing it way before he enters the room, and he always asks me, "What the h*ll is that smell?!" Having said that, you do get used to it after a while, thankfully.
You're probably thinking right now that there's no way you'd want to use a product which smells so awful. But please don't let that put you off. This is actually really rather good stuff.
After an unpleasantly red, tingly, burning experience with the L'Occitane Honey Mask, I was feeling a little reticent about using another product like this. However, this gel felt very cooling and soothing on my freshly cleansed skin. A little goes a long way, too. It remained on my face for a bit over the official 20 minutes (I lost track of time) on the first occasion I used it, and there was absolutely no feeling of discomfort whatsoever.
When I rinsed it off with tepid water, as instructed, I got a lovely surprise upon glancing into the mirror. My skin tone looked very even and calm - no red blotchiness at all. The texture also felt very smooth and plumped up. Next morning, my skin still looked good and smooth.
After using it for 4 weeks running, I've noticed that these good effects last for a few days after using the mask. And there's still loads and loads of product left. This is going to last me for ages!
Despite having to cope with smelling like sweetened manure for 20 minutes once a week, I shall definitely be buying this again. (Hah, husband! You're just going to have to put up with it! So there! )
I think I've just found my new favourite mask.
(FYI I have dry skin and am 40 years old. However, whilst this is plumping and hydrating, it isn't greasy at all. It'd probably be absolutely fine for normal skin, and would maybe even be okay for oilier skin that needed a boost of hydration.)

Only you can make the smell of manure seem tempting. |

Oh, how I love to romp in the cow-filled fields to get that "special" scent! |
