One thing that has always bothered me on a large number of skin care sites is the way they group their products. In my case I need anti aging but because I also have oily skin prone to breakouts then I need products suited to that as well. Most of the time, apart from the other groups, they have an anti aging group and an oily skin group which usually does nothing for anti aging.
Valmont, Remergent, PSF and Cellcosmet are a few that come to mind that don't group their products so most of their products suit most skins. Does anyone have suggestions for other manufacturers where anti aging and oily skin go together. (In other words they recognise that old people can still be oily). |

I think it's a matter of perception Bushy because my feeling is that most anti-aging treatments are also anti-acne and for oily people. Maybe it's a case of the grass being greener I especially found that to be the case on the SCB. |

I noticed that anti-aging/acne link i product lines. I took DS for a facial with a new (to me) esthetician and she was recommending products that talked about anti-aging benefits. It made me back off buying anything from her until I could look into those product lines more and see what else was out there. I'm not saying that having the anti-aging/acne link in product lines is bad, but it was overwhelming for me until I could learn more about the ingredients. |

That's funny, Molly, because at first I was thinking more along the lines of Bushy's post (that categorized "antiaging" products were usually better suited for those who are not oily/acneprone.)
I think that if there's an "antiaging" category, it should further be broken down for those with dry/oily/normal skins -- especially retinoids, Vit C and moisturizers. So many of the antiaging products are too heavy for oily skinned types, which is a real drag if you're trying to promote collagen production.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm especially thinking acids/retinoids - SO much more suitable for oilier types - look at Scally. I can't do half what she can as a normal/dry person though I find acids really nice on my sparse oilier parts. |

bushy - Maybe try some serums that are pretty pure - with a focus on one or two particular anti-aging ingredient. Many of these, as far as I know, are good for most skin types.
Both Candy's Candessence and PSF seem excellent for this kind of thing. I've used quite a few products from both and have been extremely pleased with them. |

I agree. My skin is oily like hers and I have had *very* few problems using acids/retinoids. I think that, generally speaking, oily skin is more resilient.
My big issue right now is my eyes. The skin around my eyes is dry/dehydrated with dark circles (despite all of the "internal" stuff that I do) and most of the Big Gun (ANTI AGING) type of products are too heavy and cause milia.
And, of course, so many of the moisturizing products make my eyes puffy!
It's always somethin', huh??? |

I do think that a lot of companies seem to put their anti-aging ingredients into very heavy creams, as if aging automatically goes along with dry skin. It's a lot harder to find great products for the aging oilier skin . |

I agree..case in point-Alphaderma. Marketed as anti-aging and it is, but it was just too greasy. I cringe at the thought of putting shea butter on my skin but it's normally there in the anti-aging lines. I was told it's rare (at least not common) for a 50-year-old to have oily skin. Balderdash! Anyway, that's why I've turned to serums-and even some of those...
The eyes, that's another story..give me moisture. |

Great topic! It's always kinda bugged me that most anti-aging products appear to cater to those with dry skin.
Murad seems to the only line that acknowledges acne-prone and/or oily skin needs anti-aging product as well. They offer anti-aging acne treatment, moisturizing acne treatment and their night reform treatment [an anti-aging product] doesn't contain all those heavy shea butters and lanolins I try so hard to avoid on my face.
Unfortunately, the night reform treatment DOES contain a lot of silicones, which contributed to my clogged pores until I stopped using it sigh..... |

I totally understand bushy. I was looking for a moisturizer suitable for my mother, i wanted something anti-aging for oily AND sensitive skin. companies always seem to group sensitive skin with dry skin and that's not the case for her at all. maybe candy or carekate or any other EDS DIYer can come up with something. though i think carekate's perle cream which i am awaiting for my mom sounds like it would cover all the categories. |

What finally prompted me to start this topic is that I quite often go to the home pages of products that are mentioned by members in threads and especially in the thread requesting EDS to carry the line.
Just recently someone mentioned Dr Jessica Wu products but the webpage lists categories such as oily, anti aging etc and I didn't bother looking any further. Cosmedix has also been mentioned but their categories are even more confusing (correct & stimulate, correct & repair, correct & protect). I don't want to have to look through every product to see what might suit. There are many others like this. As an example of an exception to this is the Dr Brandt sight. I am not a fan of these products (haven't tried them but saw him promoting botox which turned me off his products) but the categories make more sense. There is a skin type category which has oily/combination and within this are anti aging products which suit oily/combination skin. I just wish more manufacturers would adopt this type of classification. |

Actually it just occurred to me that it would be fantastic if the products sold by EDS could be classified in some way. It would be a huge job but if each product could be given a letter like O for oily, S for sensitive, D for dry skin, A for antiaging and so on. Each product could have more than one letter such that a product could be classed, for example, OSA meaning it is suitable for oily, sensitive skin but is also an antiaging product. Then we could do a search for all the products containing certain letters or a combination of letters. As I only now shop with EDS this would be a huge time saver and would possibly also highlight products suitable to me which I would otherwise not have considered. |
