My face feels and looks like it was attacked by a beehive! I have never been allergic to anything before...
This is my story:
In an effort to reduce the sensitivity caused by topical tazarotene while continuing to prevent breakouts, I've been using the Zenbiotic foundation pack, and recently ( for ~ 2.5 weeks), a 1% HA serum . Although tazorac has helped me tremendously with breakouts, my skin is very prone to comedonal acne, and redness, and dryness/flaking mostly along the laughline / around mouth area.
In the last 2 days, I have developed some allergy, and my face (and lower jaw and neck) is covered with red bumps that intensely itch. I suspect it might be allergic contact dermatitis, and possible allergens might be:
-Vitamin C & DMAE (a serum I have used sporadically in the last 2 weeks--perhaps a total of 3 times)
-Hyaluronic acid, 1% soln in water
I've stopped using everything for now, but I am in desperate need for suggestions (the itch is absolutely torturous!!)
TIA

I'm sorry to hear about your allergy. Perhaps try some aloe vera gel? I keep some in the fridge for emergencies. I sometimes also use some cortaid cream (1% cortisone) for a day or two. Also take an anti-histamine (Benadryl, Clarythin, Zirtek - in the US); that should help with the itch. HTH. |

Thank you so much for your sympathy!
I don't understand how this happened... My face is literally covered with bumps, including under my eyes, and the fact that my skin is so dry b/c of the tazorac doesn't help much... I've been applying small amounts of hydrocortisone, and, now on the 4th day of this misery it's almost getting a little better. I look as though I'm recovering from chicken pox or the measles
Is it possible that it's the hyaluronic acid? It's the only thing I can think of that I've recently added to my skincare routine that I've applied regularly. Maybe it was a cumulative effect?
or most likely the Zenbiotic Vit C & MSM serum (maybe I applied it too liberally?)
the skin around my eyes is covered with the bumps too...
HELP!!!!
Obviously if this continues I'll see a doctor. Has anyone ever experienced this?!? |

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this.
My girlfriend is allergic to oranges and can't use any topicals with Vitamin C. She has the same reaction you are describing when she uses anything with Vitamin C in it. You may be allergic to the same thing. As for relief of your symptoms, Benadryl will look after the itching.
It sounds like you have hives, and only time will get rid of those; but you can relieve the itch in the meantime. |
