I have been looking at reviews and product details, and Im sooo confused. It seems impossible to find a highly effective sunblock that isnt heavy and greasy.
Neutrogena dry touch SPF55 with a PPD of 18/19 (so I read) is not as high as I would like. So far its the best in the US available one to me. Is there any European sunblock thats really nice to apply and wear?? |

SVR 50B has SPF 50 and PPD 20.
I use it for the past 10 months and like it - does not make my skin breakout, makeup can be applied on top, etc. It does have some color, but not too much.

Honestly, I have no idea, but suspect it the name of the firm that makes it.
I order it from Europe.

LRP Anthelios Fluide Extreme has a PPD of 28 and an SPF 50+. It's really light and not greasy. |

The Remergent SPF30 is an excellent sunscreen and has a matt finish. It is very easy to apply and although it looks like a thick cream, it is very light and spreads easily. I can also assure you that it won't clog pores either. |

I second this suggestion.
I use Bioderma AKN Spray. |

I third this
I have the AKN Spray and the tinted cream. I dont find either heavy or greasy. Sometimes I mix the two togethor for a tinted suncream. I find the cream too dark but with a little AKN spray it lightens the shade a touch. I find I dont need foundation when I do this as it works just as well as makeup to even out my skin.
Ive tried SVR and thought it was horrible. |

I didn't think the Neutrogena's PPD rating was even that high to be honest. Thought it was closer to 8 or 10.
I've tried Bioderma AKN Spray, Bioderma Max Fluide, Anthelios Fluide and Bioderma Max Creme. Out of those the least greasiest is actually the creme. I thought it would be the greasiest because it is the heaviest, but it's not. The other three are quite liquidy in nature and are quite runny and left my face pretty shiny. I like a little bit of a glow to my face and didn't mind the shine. The Bioderma Max Creme isn't completely matte like Shiseido or other japanese brands, but for what it is and the protection it offers, it's the lesser of the two evils on the above euro ss that I've tried. |

Hi...
I've tried the SVR, the Bioderma AKN Spray, Bioderma Max Fluide, Anthelios Fluide, Avene Gel-Creme, LRP Dermo-Peds spray, and truthfully ALL of them leave my skin too shiny after a couple of hours. I end up blotting my face a few times during the day--especially my T-zone--and in the process I remove the sunscreen.
The sunscreens I've tried that leave my face matte all day with no blotting required are these:
Shiseido Cream SPF 55 (can't use this one due to irritation)
DHC White
Sunkiller Clearwater
Sofina Nuance Up
I think the 3 directly above are rated PPD +++ but that still is not very good UVA protection; it's something like 8. I would use a European high PPD sunscreen if I could find one that didn't get greasy and require blotting...I just haven't succeeded in finding one. I may try the Bioderma cream again since I don't remember my results from sampling that one. Thanks for the tip, Ariesxtreme. |

PocoLoco
I originally ordered the Bioderma Max Fluide, but they screwed up my order and I received the creme instead. I'm glad they did mess up the order. Although I wouldn't mind a little bit more moisture in the winter. This is defintely something I'll be using in the summer months when I don't need assistance in the oil/shine dept. |

I was looking for a physical sunscreen, not a chemical one. I use it every day all year long - I drive for about an hour into Manhattan, and have no choice in terms of sunscreen.
After reading on the other boards about possible instability issues with some chemical sunscreens, and estrogenic factors in others, I decided to go with physical sunscreen (SVR was originally recommended by Pocoloco).
After the CP, DMAE gel, Emu Oil mix, when all is dried up, I put SVR on my face and massage it a bit, and let it dry. When it is completely done, then I apply mineral (or not) makeup. I have very oily T-zone, but did not see any increase in shine or oiliness in that area from SVR. What I did notice that my makeup looks better.
Around the eyes I use DY's liquid SPF 15 Titanium Dioxide. It gives less protection, but does not irritate me eyes. I wear sunglasses, and every other sunscreen irriates my extremely sensitive eyes, so there was very little choice.
I have Sofina to try at some point, and liked Sunkiller, but am afaraid to use it on a daily basis.

Lucy, that's great that the SVR is working for you! It's such a huge relief when you find a good one that works. And the fact that it's a physical block is even better.
Aries, now I'm definitely going to give the Bioderma creme another try! |

Dear Poco,
I am so grateful to you for that recommendation.
I also ordered Sofina and Sunkiller, liked Sunkiller, but am afaraid to use it daily. Have not yet tried Sofina.
Did you try Sofina? if yes - did you like it?

Poco,
Have you tried the SVR ss? I'm checking out the site and it's starting to entice me. I'm still hung up on the whole phsyical/chemical debate though. |

Lucy,
I have the Sofina and I love it. I just wish it had better PPD protection. But I love that it's light, it's matte, and non-irritating.
AriesX, I have the SVR also but it's not totally right for me. I like the finish when I first put it on, but my skin still gets too "glowy" by mid-day, and to make matters worse, this sunscreen causes breakouts for me. There must be some ingredient in it that doesn't agree with my skin. |

Just when I think I found my ss, I almost fall into a dilemna again. My concern is the PPD ratings and the euro's seem to have that, but most are chemical are they not? I do like the finish of the japanese ss, but they don't offer adequate UVA protection in my mind.
Ultimately I'd like a high PPD rated physical ss. I don't understand why manufacturers can't seem to accomodate a simple demand like that. |

Aries, I share your pain. Yes, all of the high PPD European sunscreens are chemical, with the exception of SVR which has a very good PPD rating of 20. If you haven't tried it yet, you should. You can purchase a 5 ml sample from Kathleen atwww.skincarecentral.biz |

I may try that, also another member brought up Glyclolix Elite to my attention which as ZO of 17% which interests me, but may try the sample first, but I see it's tinted so may buy the reg size bottle elsewhere. That's where i tried all my samples before buying Poco, but doing some readup on the chemical ss and the whole free radical issue is starting to scare me. |

Is rubbing a zinc oxide stick all over my face out of the question? |

If you're not sensitive to bismuth oxychloride, there is a ColorScience invisible powder that people love. SPF 50 or 60 coming from zinc and titanium dioxide. |

Poco,
I did see that, ppl love it apparently. Because I don't wear makeup or foundation or anything during the week and rarely wear makeup during the weekends I'm a little standoff'ish about tghe whole powder thing. I'll look into it again though. |
