so i was perusing through all the prices of JMAIE and other websites. And since i'm just found out about it, I had no idea it was so backordered. Anyhow, I called a spa place, even though they didn't have it. They put me on the "list" for JMAIE. Since they were selling the product for 129,and everywhere ese were selling it for 169, I asked the lady why. And she told me that Jan marini company sell them the JMAE for only 90bucks. So she thought it was a reasonable price to sell it for 129. I can't believe how much profit these salons/spas are ripping us off.
anyhow, just something i found out.

My first post! I paid almost $160.00 for a tube of Revitalash. A girlfriend estetician inadvertently showed me her sales slip for the product and she paid only $64 per tube HOWEVER had to buy 8 tubes. I do understand about marking up the price since only licensed professionals are allowed to purchase at the bulk rate -- they paid for their schooling and licenses.

Anyhoo, the truth is that I would pay HUGE amounts of money to have longer eyelashes, smoother skin, weigh less, etc etc.

So far, I discovered that what makes these products such as JM or Revitalash work is topical prostaglandins - an ingredient in glaucoma medication. One of the side effects of this drug is increased growth and curling of the eyelashes as well as change in eye colour (from blue to brown). eeek . . . . I couldn't find any literature on how long it would take for eye colour change to occur but it is permanent.

I would 'assume' that as long as one is using the product as instructed the side effect of eye colour change wouldn't occur . . . but you know what assume means . . . .

Any thoughts on this?

My mom has to administer eye drops in her left eye because of glaucoma..the lashes on that eye are so long that they actually tangle!...I wonder if JM is quiet about the active ingredient in their product because of the natural controversy that would ensue if people thought that the active ingredient was extracted from a medicinal treatment for the eyes....My mom has been using this stuff for about a year - eyedropping it directly into her eye and her eyecolour hasn't changed at all..her eyes are icy light blue. Her lashes on that eye though - they are SO LONG that it looks freakish!

Well, it makes me feel better knowing that her eyes havent changed colour. I have noticed a difference in my eyelash length only on one eye even though I put it on both eyes. I have one eye where my lashes stubbornly grow downwards -- argh! I was hoping they would curl and grow . . but not yet.

tl, your friend is not nice at all to charge you almost $100 on top of what she paid for. I can't believe she'd do that to a friend. I just bought a Revitalash on ebay and I paid $89 for it. I was wondering how the seller could sell for so much less, but now I understand. She just wasn't too greedy and made $20 profit instead of $100. ahhhhh Thank goodness for decent folks.

tl, if my eyes are already brown, would they turn blue? hehe I wish!!!!!!!!!

Do we know that Revitalash contains the suspected prostaglandin that Jan Marini is suspected to contain? If so, I'm ordering Revitalash asap!

Actually it's Revitalash that reports it was invented by an opthamologist to help his wife who had cancer and lost all her eyelashesh. You can look them up on the web by googling revitalash.

God forbid someone should end up with brown eyes! Rolling Eyes How very unfortunate!

I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound that way, but really, blue eyes are not the "be all end all" eye color or the epitome of perfection you know! I know so many people that have the most beautiful brown eyes and I actually prefer men that have dark eyes vs. light eyes. Brown eyes can be warm and soulful - a lot of times blue eyes can be just plain cold or boring.

I have brown eyes and am just grateful that I can see!

We're still jumping to conclusions that JM and Revitalash CONTAIN a prostaglandin -- we don't KNOW that's what the magic ingredient is.

Having said that, yes, I'm 99.99% certain that JMAIE and RevitaLash contain the same active ingredient. What exactly that ingredient is is still up for debate....

P.S. I’ve already blathered about this once in one of the JM threads, but here it goes again:

Speaking of which, did y'all know that EVERYONE's eyes are truly brown when you look at them under extreme magnification? It's true!

"How do you know, CareKate?"

I'm so glad you asked! I have this growth on the iris of my eye that the doctors liken to a beauty mark or mole. It doesn't bother me or affect my vision (I'm 20-15), but if you look closely at my left eye, you'll see that the pupil is oval/oblong rather than perfectly round. Because of this iris nevus, I'm required to get my eyes checked out by an eye specialist (actually, my doctor is THE most foremost authority in the world on these freaky little "eye moles"!!) to make sure that the 'beauty mark' hasn't grown in size or changed characteristics. You know, like they tell you to go to the doctor immediately if you have a mole on your body that suddenly changes appearance b/c it could be a sign of melanoma or something....

Anyway, these tests that they run are much more involved than your regular checkup with the optomologist. Among other things, they dilate my pupils, and then take closeup photographs of my eye. By "closeup," I mean that they actually put the lens of the camera against the surface of my eyeball and snap the pics!!

In order to be able to put the camera lens on my eye without scratching or damaging the cornea - here's the part that's gonna make you cringe - they actually coat my eyeball with K-Y jelly (yes, the same stuff the OB-GYN uses on the speculum when he goes "spelunking") and then I'm told to hold my eye open as wide as possible and I'm forbidden to blink while they proceed to shoot off about 4-rolls of 36-exposures 35 mm film, and if I *do* blink or flinch while the flashbulb is going off brightly at my defenseless, fully dilated pupil, then they have to start the process all over again!!

Needless to say, I dread when it's time for my yearly eye checkup...the exams aren't really painful, but they are EXTREMELY uncomfortable!! If that's not bad enough, during the 20-minutes that it takes for them to shoot off the pix while I sit in the chair tearing up but unblinking, I can actually feel the K-Y jelly m-e-l-t-i-n-g and running down my face. Obviously this is one day per year when putting on my makeup is an exercise in futility!

"What's the point of this meaningless ramble, CareKate, about photogenic eyeball moles?"

Well, my specialist eye doctor actually once gave me a Polaroid closeup photo of my eyeball and I hung it inside my cubicle at work. Whenever people notice the picture, they invaribly ask me if it's my mammogram!!!! Shock Don't ask me how the hell they think my eyeball is my tit, but they always do!

So it turns out that up close (i.e.: the closeness it takes for them to photograph my eye-mole), EVERYONE's eyes are actually brown. I'm completely serious!

To the naked eye (no pun!), my eyes are greenish-grey with gold flecks, and when the eye doctor handed me that Polaroid picture, I told him that it must be a mistake, it couldn't be my eye in the photo, because the eyeball in the picture was actually brown.

He told me it wasn't a mistake, everyone's eyes are really brown under that degree of magnification. He said something about the way that someone's eye color is perceived to be blue, green or hazel is really just an optical illusion based on the composition of the "cones" and "rods" in the cornea of the eye. I thought that was fascinating but I was a little disappointed because I'm quite proud of the unusual color of my eyes....

So there's a little bit of useless trivia for you: those baby-blues that you are so proud of are actually mud-brown! Confused

I don't know if anyone here has used both products, but someone on MakeupAlley apparently did and experienced miraculous (too miraculous?!) results with the RevitaLash: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=19071&highlight=revitalash

I am very tempted to purchase Revitalash myself and checked Ebay. My concern with Ebay is with faulty products. We've had a few members on here purchase their JM from Ebay and either found it to be fake product or caused some serious side effects that others who bought from credible salons or online stores did not experience. I'd be a bit weary with Ebay cosmetic purchases. The price which is half of what others are selling for is quite tempting, but exactly what are you paying for? Not to say that yours isn't the real deal, hope that it is.

ariesxtreme, haha, of course I was worried that the product might be fake, but the seller has 400+ feedback at 100% positive. The guy or gal never got one single negative, so s/he must be doing something right. Then I emailed the seller and asked where s/he got his/her revitalash from, and if it was authentic, the reply was that s/he got it from Athena. This person did not mince words. I sent a big long message full of questions and got a one or two word response, but s/he does reply. So can't complain much. So I'll keep you posted on MY results. haha If it works, I'll be one happy gal. It will be the best x-mas present i gave to myself.

Do keep me posted. I'm eyeing the Revitalash and with the discount from EDS, it'll be a fair price.

I had never heard of the eye color change. That's an unfortunate side effect.

I wonder how you senior members enjoy 20% discount. Did you have to order something from EDS before, or do you get your membership status based on time since you joined?
