I noticed that I cannot handle DY LA serum pH2 while also using Retin A - it leaves my skin itchy and reddish.

I love using one with a pH3 - I raised the pH myself with a little triethanolamine using pH strips.

I get the exfoliating and moisturizing benefits of the LA without irritation. I know it wont encourage collagen growth, but thats what I use the tretinoin for anyways.

What is your experience using exfoliants/acids with retin A?

Acids like AHA or BHA or lactic can help the retinol penetrate deeper and should promote collagen growth.

I still alternatae the use of pH 1.9 salicylic (5%) and mandelic (Fulton) but I cannot use these on the sides of my mouth and chin when I am using Retin A. It gets way too dry and flakey. The rest of my face seems fine. I am starting to use the 0.1% Retin A cream but again, I use a weaker strength on the flakey areas.

I think thats overkill at best Monica. Its no wonder your skin is irritated. If you like retinol, its the only item you should use. Oh yes, and sunscreen during the day.

I use BHA (2%) and Retin A without any problems, but my skin is not sensitive.

And yes: don“t forget sunscreen. Smile

My skin is not sensitive as long as I dont use a pH of only 1.9 as in the DY exfoliant either Smile I now have no problems with the LA serum at a pH3.
