| I can't avoid it and I don't look forward to it. I always turn out looking awful. This time, I want to change that. Any tips on how do your make-up when getting photo ID? Any tips on how I should do my hair? |

| skincare, I totally know how you feel!!! No matter what, I always seem to take bad pictures. Worse, no matter how nice my make up looks, it never even shows up and it looks like I'm not wearing any!!! What I've learned over the years is one sure-fire way to look good in a picture is wear slightly more make up than you're comfortable wearing. After I got married I had to get a new driver's license, so when I went to get my picture taken I wore big fake pearl earrings, dark red lipstick, fake eyelashes with a lot of mascara, and black liquid eyeliner. In real life I looked a little ridiculous, but in my picture I looked so classy and glamorous, and everyone who saw my license commented on what a beautiful picture it was.^-^ Soon I'm going to have to get a new picture taken for my passport, so I'm planning on doing something similar. HTH! |

| Was your photo ID in colour or in black and white? |

It was color. Actually if it were black and white, I'd probably say to dial up the makeup even another notch! Which one will your picture be--- color or black and white? |

Sorry that I have no advice. But I hope your pic turns out great!!!
My ID pics turn out awful, and even if we lose our ID, they pull the old digital pic and slap it on the new ID. I can't escape my unphotogenic-ness! However, a Pikachu sticker over my face has made the situation somewhat less grim. |

They are in colour but with the last picture, I looked like a black person (sort of) and I thought that was cool but my featers are so awful!
Should I straigten my hair? I usually do that because I look more polished. My natural wavy hair looks so messy and difficult to style. |

| I agree about doing the makeup alittle darker than you normally would. If I don't, then I look totally washed out. And pick a colour for your shirt that really goes nicely with your skin tone, so that will add colour as well (What is it they tell broadcasters to do? Wear blue? Certain colours look better on camera than others I think ... although I don't know which ones myself). I also like to tilt my chin up ever so slightly, so it makes the area under my chin look better (I don't have a double chin, but if I keep my head down too far, sometimes it looks like I have alittle bit of one!). |

I'm also one of those people who doesn't seem too photogenic. I took my new passport photo a few months back and was so amazed at how washed out I looked . My skin looked so dirty and my eyes looked as if they had horrible bags under them, mind you I'm only 20 . I actually get to retake my drivers license photo in one year, and am already cringing at the thought. Whoever finds out the ultimate secret to looking great in photos that are taken with not so great cameras in not so great lighting conditions, will have so many people looking up to you for advice . What I have heard that people do, is actually go out and spend money to get their makeup and hair done for photos such as passport and drivers license. But I'm not one to shell out such an amount of money, as it can buy a textbook for a class instead . |

I had to renew my passport this year, and after i primped at home for my photo, the lady at London Drugs photos told me that "new regulations" prohibit the use of lip gloss as well as cream blush in photos as no "shine" whatsoever is allowed in the photos. Um, excuse me? HOW annoying.
So here i was, wiping off my carefully applied lip gloss and liner, as well as my cream blush that is my HG for glowy skin. She had to take 3 photos before all traces of the "shine" were gone. I was also told that i can't smile. The result is a serious, dull-lipped, pale-looking photo. I was not impressed!
The lighting is of course terrible. There is a light powder by Laura Mercier called SKIN BRIGHTENING POWDER, that, when swept under the eyes, helps with the shadows these and other pictures create. I recently read in Lucky magazine that Molly Sims uses this powder on herself for photo shoots.
Hope this helps! |

No shine? If someone has oily skin, do they make them wear powder?!?
OMG, I need to get my passport renewed and the thought of attempting a glam "photo makeup" without lipgloss is just impossible!
I wanted more details (maybe the lady at London Drugs was just being mean because you're hot and she's not?) so I googled passport lipgloss to check on any breaking news of how the government is inventing new ways to make us suffer by depriving us of our cosmetics.
There's a brand of cosmetics called Passport! And they make lipgloss!

P.S. My photo makeup is a lot like manslayerliz! Especially good is an extended smoky cateye eyeliner thing and darker lipliner under the bottom lip to create a pouty shadow. It looks a little overdone sitting in the Driver's License place, but in the photo it looks fine! |

HI
As already mentioned I recommend extra makeup, a fake tan would be good. Also whatever you do, do NOT wear a pale outfit or one that is the same colour as the background, it can make you disappear!
My hubby went to great lengths to get his hair cut and put on a smart shirt for his passport photo and the shirt blended in with the background and his photo just looks like he's a head floating on nothing! LOL! I laugh everytime I see it!
Se beware! |

Yeah, I hate photos of any kind. I had my passport picture taken last night because I am going to St. Lucia and the new passport law went into effect 2 days ago in the U.S. It looks worse than my driver's license.
My advice would be to use a bronzer and blush and use it all around your face. |

Hahaha, I hear that!! It totally looks overdone sitting in the license branch (plus everyone looks at me, LOL), but the picture looks great!^-^ |

hi heathercolorado,
I forgot to mention the "shine" part. At London Drugs, they have boxes of opened CornSilk powder that I had to apply with a cotton ball all over my face to get rid of shine. But let me tell you , in normal light i had no shine, but 3 pictures later, some shine was still bouncing off my forehead. When i walked out of there, I was a caked-on mess. And guess what? These computer-generated photos are shiny anyway!? |

Well, living in the U.S., I never needed a passport when I went to Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, etc. Now you need a passport to go to any of these places. |
