well, i just posted a topic asking about what would be the best thing to take care for the lips, like a balm or so on..well, then i just thought to my self...it sometimes SUX to have big lips!..
well, first of all they get dry more often then tinner lips...then there is the part where everyone cant stop staring at them, like ppl look at my lips more when they talk to me more then my eyes...and ofcourse there is the whole sexual thing were men always see you as sex symbol...
i get very furstrated with it sometimes..and i'm not black, 100 percent white..
does anyone have the same problem?and what make-up tips do u do to make them less noticable so the eyes can be first? i tried putting nothing on but then but lips get chaped and still doesnt work... |

I have relatively thick lips compared to my friends. When I was younger, I love red lipstick and my friends always make fun of me by saying things like - my lips arrive 5 seconds before the rest of my body or they just need to look for the huge red lips in the crowd to look for me & etc.
Now, older and a little wiser, I tend to play up my eyes by using eyeliner and mascara and play down my lips by using just lip balm. I hardly use lipgloss as it attracts attention, IMO. I use either matte or satin lipstick in muted or neutral colors (if I use any at all).
Not sure if it'll work for you, I've seen folks who use concealer to cover their outer lip line and put on a neutral color lipstick and the lips do look smaller. This can be tricky as I've seen others who concealed their original lip line and draw a smaller lips and looked TOTALLY unnatural and it's not flattering.

I think there are some tricks you can employ to distract the eye from your lips for a photograph...but I don't think that "real life" is kind to our efforts to contour and minimize a feature like your mouth...It is much easier to accomplish this with the eye area..but the mouth is tough....if you go dark, you attract attention - and if you go light with colour you'll attract equal attention. My suggestion would be to use a really good lip balm without plumping properties so that your pout is fresh and healthy...avoid glosses and shimmer and find a shade that is neutral - as close to your lip colour as possible...To achieve the most discreet lip possible, don't try to minimize - try to neutralize instead. That is my two cents....BTW, I've paid hundreds of dollars in one shot (pardon the pun) for a more plentiful pucker....I'm one of those people who be staring with envy You'd have to give my head a smack!!

lipglossbaby, I just posted in another thread that I'm not genetically "programmed" for those lush full lips. I have that stupid "cupid's bow" mouth. My Mom, on the other hand, had lips that would make Ms. Jolie run for the nearest derm for injections. Not only were my mother's lips large and full, they had an unusual shape -- the bottom lip was a softly rounded vee. Gorgeous! And, since no one in the family either before or after her had/has them, it's obviously not a dominant gene.
I digress. Anywho, really the best you can do if you really want to downplay your lips is to use a moisturizing balm and no color on the lips. THEN, really play up your eyes. It will tend to make the viewer's eyes stay "zero in" on the top half of your face.
Hope this helps.
Ari
p.s. I'm beginning to get redundant about Candessence but I simply love her "Gimme a Smooch" Hydrating Lip Balm in the Chocolate flavor. It's completely colorless and extreeeeemely hydrating. |

Excellent advice from Pudoodles.
I have full lips now but when I was younger they were fuller and very pouty. My brothers would tease me about my BIG mouth. Actually, I hated my lips. Now I realize that my mouth and smile are my best facial feature and actually I play it up.
We all have something we would like to change...in my case it is my eye bags. |

My lips are rather 'full' as well, the first thing the dermatologist commented on when he saw me. And I was always suffering from dried up lips as well. I began using Kose Vague Lip Cream which was a miracle for my lips, helps to keep them plump and flake free - I have not had peeling lips for the entire time I've used the product.
I also use a clear lip liner to define the outer and just on the edge of my lips before using a thin tipped lip brush to apply lipstick. The only thing worse than having 'goofy big lips' is having your lipstick smear around the lipline which excentuates them even more. |

Hey now! I have that stupid "cupid's bow" mouth too! I really love my lips. I knew a woman who drew a fake cupid's bow on with lipliner, that was weird--as was she--but in real life they are sweet and sexy. I would never trade my lips for a different shape. |

I have big lips, too, and I wish they were 1/2 the size. I am also allergic to most things for my lips. I can just use the Vaseline lip balm, and the Body Shop lipstick. I have to put the lipstick on top of the lip balm. I tried some other lip balms at the Body Shop, and my lips looked like they got stung by bees the next day. I am not too sure why people want to have big lips. I really hate mine. |

Lipglossbaby, I can really relate to your problem! I don't think your lips are that "bad", but you probably should avoid lipliner (or at least use something that doesn't show). I have big lips myself, but in addition I'm PALE and my lips naturally blood red... My lips are impossible to hide, lipliner and lipsticks make me look like a clown! I prefer just some colourless lipgloss since my natural colour is so strong everything else looks weird.. But I never have dry lips! I actually use som face cream on my lips before any gloss. It keeps the moisture in. I also gently scrub my lips to remove flakes. |

Hi Lipglossbaby, it should be easy enough to direct the attention to your eyes because you have big eyes as well. Just keep your lips neutral and do a bit of a smoky eye. It will look great on you. |

lipglossbaby you are very attractive. You have an exotic look about you. I agee that you should not wear either a very dark or light lip color. From the look of your picture you don't need hardly any makeup. Your eyes are stunning. If people are looking at you lips when talking with you they are probably thinking "did she have injections???"
IMO you could be a model (exotic beauty).

I don't know you so I have know idea what your wardrobe is like or your demeanor. Perhaps if you ask a good friend if your demeanor could be giving men the wrong idea it might shed more light on the situation. |

lipglossbaby--
Your lips really are not *that* big, at least they are in proportion with your face and they have a nice shape. I wouldnt worry too much about them looking "big". Guys are always gonna be little pervs, probably not much you can do about that...I do agree with Winnie's advice though, maybe you are giving the wrong impression if its a constant problem. |

You know, I've always had really full lips. When I was a kid, I always thought that there was something wrong with me, because no one else had such big lips. It really bothered me for a long time.
But then I became a teenager. All of my friends dying with envy because of my lips, while they were running out to buy all sorts of lip liner, etc. Then, I realized that my lips were a blessing, not a curse, and to love what I've been given. I do get comments sometimes from guys saying I have "BJ" lips, but who cares? Guys are always going to look for something in you to turn them on. If it wasn't your lips, it would be your ass, or your boobs, yada yada yada. They're incorrigable.
I can't figure out how to post a pic, but if anyone wants to see me and my big lips, you can go to www.merissa.com. It's only 1 page, but you can get the idea...
PS--My lips were the main attraction for all of the modeling agents and their clients (Gucci, Prada, Sephora, etc!) They got me alot of jobs! Look on the bright side baby!!! |

Oh, and one more thing. To keep my lips happy, because I, too suffer the dreaded dry lips, I use carmex at night, and Beeswork Red Roses Organic Lip rouge. It gives just the tiniest bit of color to the lips, very natural looking, and it moisturizes super, super well. $17 for a balm tho..... |
