Has anyone here ever watched the original Colombian series that "Ugly Betty" was developed from?
We have had "Yo Soy Betty, La Fea" here in Japan on cable for years and years and it is a hoot (even thought it is only broadcast in Spanish and Japanese so I miss a lot of it...) ... seeing as the US version is supposed to be following the original storyline I wont say more on what happens to the little ugly one... |

Sorry this is off topic but Tiger_tim, how long have you lived in Japan and don't you speak any Japanese at all? (Or is it not for the want of trying as I believe that Asian languages are very difficult) |

That reminds me of the movie"lost in translation". Yes Asia languages are difficult! I picked up some Japanese in unveristy but since i dont have any chances to practise, i only know how to order sushi and sashimi now! |

Hi bushy, I have been here for.. ugh.. 13 years next month, so yes, I have picked up the language a bit (though I should be native by now... )
BUT on the topic of Lost in Translation, in the key scene when Bill Murray is being given the very very long instructions for his ad by the Japanese director and there are no subtitles (obviously becuase Ms. Coppola wanted the audience to feel the bewilderment of the character).. well, the directions were actually HILARIOUS and my husband and I were just sitting in the theater peeing ourselves laughing - which was bad because it was a theater in Australia and people thought we were nuts - and then when the translator gave a single sentence translation we almost fell off the seat we laughed so hard. It was just one of those fabulous moments to be able to understand what you were not supposed to be able to understand. |

There are indeed posters of it everywhere in London.
The excruciating thing is, the poster girl looks a dead ringer for my friends daughter..
It is very very obvious to anyone who knows her. * cringe* |

I know it, but have not tried it.
Over here a 10 day box costs 2400 yen (about US$20) and a 30 day box costs 6800 yen (USD$56)
Japan is literally swimming in these kind of liquid suppliments... very hard to decide what one needs and what one doesn't. |
