This is absolutely bizzare, but I was wondering if anyone else had the same results. DMAE firms and tightens my skin everywhere except my eye area. I noticed today that the more DMAE I put around my eye, the more it droops. My eyelids drooped so much that I ran to wash off the DMAE I had applied, and smeared on the PSF cranberry eyegel.
Any thought on why this happened to me? I had been trying to find anything that will help firm up the eye area (copper peptides also make my eyelids droop like mad!), but it seems like everything that is supposed to firm makes them droop. |

Oh my gosh! That's horrible. Someone even suggested me to apply it for dark circles! Thank you for your postiong. I will never ever do that! |

jacque: It seems to work really well on the eye area for some people though, so I don't want to discourage you from trying it! Maybe try just a little bit and observe closely. I'm still new to using DMAE (2%), and I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time using it, and I smeared it around my eye area hoping it would "lift" the eyelids, but it did the exact opposite. (It looked really bad actually.) I wonder if I'm some weird rare case who doesn't react well to DMAE. |

Poor you!! I'd be moving at mach 9 to get it off!! I hope that one of our skincare experts can shed some light on this for you...DMAE causing eyelid drooping...that is the strangest thing! Does the PSF eye lifting treatment you put on afterwards correct it? Do your eyelids droop when you put the DMAE on - but then resume their "natural position" once you rinse it off or are your eyelids "permanently" drooping more now? This is so strange!! I'm waiting for the DMAE gel to arrive any day now so I'm terribly curious and want to learn more!

Hi maiea - I'm using PSF 3% DMAE Serum and am thrilled with the results. I experienced some drying at first (not positive it was due to DMAE) but now my skin has overcome whatever caused it. I wonder if yours would work better if you applied it very sparingly to the eye area and/or just on the orbital bone avoiding the fleshy lids, or else tried applying it every other day until your skin adjusts?
BTW, I generally apply mine on freshly-cleansed skin to reap the most results, and if I'm going through a dry skin spell, I use something very moisturizing on top, before I apply SS. Maybe you could also try applying a moisturizer/eye cream FIRST -- while the tightening capability may be lessened doing this, you're obviously not benefiting from the way you're using it now so you'd have nothing to lose by trying.
However, some forum members have trouble tolerating amine DMAE. Apparently some sensitive types can't even use the bitartrate kind. Good luck and keep us posted. |

maybe you're using too much and if you leave off for a few weeks and just use a teeny tiny bit at a time to let eyelids ajust, it would work better for you? |

I've been using DMAE around my eyes and have noticed no drooping. I apply it very sparingly around the eyes. After applying, I wait 10-30 minutes then apply moisturizer. DMAE seems to be a little drying on its own. Could dryness cause the drooping? |

maiea, do you think you're allergic to DMAE? Also have you tried diluting it or mixing it with Emu oil? |

Hi - Thanks for all the replies & suggestions.
Dryness is not causing the drooping. It's almost like the second I put on the DMAE, my eyelids droop like crazy. It's immediate and very noticeable.
I haven't tried diluting it, but I will try that in a week or so when the skin around my eyes have calmed down (I noticed this morning that my skin there is a bit red and I don't want to push my luck.) The weird thing is I have no problems with DMAE elsewhere on my face! It works so well on my jaw and laugh lines!
I have tried the bitartrate type, and it did nothign for me. I tried a 0.5% amine DMAE before and it seemed to work okay on me though I didn't see dramatic results, and well, I found the 2% so I bought it. I think that now I'll see if I can try to dilute it back down to 0.5% or 1%.
The PSF Phytolift Cranberry eyegel is an old standby. It seems give me an open eyed look. I've never had problems with it. After washing off the DMAE and putting this on, my eyes seemed to have improved a bit, but I don't know if it's because of this eyegel, or because I washed off the DMAE, or a combination. If my eyelida permanently drooped they way they did from the DMAE, I'd be so distraught right now, because the drooping was very severe.. however, from this morning, they seem to have recovered somewhat, but they're not 100% back to normal yet.
So crossing my fingers that my eyelids go back to normal. I may try experimenting with a very diluted DMAE, and if not, I think it's back to the PSF eyegel. |

Maiea - did you try the bitartrate version regularly because I didn't get the immediate WOW I get with the amine one, but there's an effect after regular use. It's not as dramatic but useful. |

Hmm, no, I didn't use the bitartrate regularly. Maybe it's worth another try? I have the powder actually, do you make yours up yourself, and if so, how much do you use in a solution?
Thanks! |

At the moment I'm using Candessence's which is 6%. I am using it on my undereyes twice daily. Not sure I'll do that long-term because it feels quite acidic - just wanted to see what it did. Been using since about 27th Dec and began seeing effect after a few days. HTH |
