Ok, I finally have some time to do a proper review.
Background: I have been losing my hair in an alarming fashion (to me) for the last year or so. Whenever I would wash it, I would come out with big handfuls of hair. There was hair everywhere in my house...etc plus my DH commented that my hair looked terrible. It was grim. I had a number of wonderful suggestions from many EDS members, among whom Carekate offered to generate a Hair Growth Accelerator Treatment, which is the topic of today's review.
Full name: CareKate Rosemary Hair Growth Accelerator Treatment.
Packaging: Mine comes in a dark green (light-protective?) soft plastic bottle with a flip cap, from which the oil can be squeezed out a little at a time. The label also contains directions for use and has been made waterproof with tape (something I really appreciate as I find it very annoying how labels fade with use or get gunky). The bottle looks very smart on the whole.
Ingredients: Don't know. Is based on ariesextreme's oil recipe with various goodies added.
Texture: oily but not too liquidy/runny. Has a nice feel, really.
Color: Sort of milky color (a bit like LB Processors Emu oil)
Smell: My favorite part, after its effectiveness. Divine! The main smell is rosemary. It overpowers any other smell (at least to my nose).
Storage: Carekate recommends to store it in the fridge in between use. (It looks cute next to my bottles of wine).
Price: Very reasonable. I paid an introductory price way below $20, which is a steal.
Application: At least once a week (the more the better - probably about 3 times a week would be optimum), apply to clean dry hair, a little at a time. Really concentrate on getting the product on the scalp. I part my hair and squueze a bit out of the bottle directly on my scalp or put some on my hands and work it in. Make sure the whole scalp gets the product. Hair don't need to be dripping wet. I now end up using less of the product (after getting initially carried away) but really work it in. The recommendation is to massage for 15 minutes. My arms get tired so usually I massage for about 5 minutes and leave it in anytime from 20 min to overnight. If I'm going out, I put a hat on. The heat should help the product penetrate better. Then shampoo out and condition as usual.
Effectiveness: YEAH, baby! For me, it worked almost immediately within the first two weeks of use. The molting has stopped.
Caveat: This isn't the ONLY thing I've changed. I'm also taking hair supplements (I tried a bunch, thanks aries for sending me the Walmart Hair one, and in the end settled on the GNC Women's Hair, Skin and Nails) in addition to regular multivitamins. I'm also using sulfate-free shampoos, to which I add rosemary E.O. Nevertheless, do not try prying this product away from me if you haven't written your will... Even if it's a placebo-effect, it's a pretty damn good one, IMO!
I also know that people using the lash serum notice more lashes falling initially. This hasn't been my experience with my hair. It just stopped falling period.
Other questions I have been asked:
Does it help with thickening? I haven't noticed any thickening effect. My hair is somewhat fuller but I think it's more of rather than thicker strands.
Does it smell like coconut: Haven't noticed. The Rosemary smell is the predominant one.
Will I repurchase? Take a wild guess.
Did my face get hairy? No. I try and keep the product on my head. My forehead ends up with some product but I haven't sprouted hair there nor on the sides.
Will it help men? Don't see why not.
Will it reverse baldness? I don't know.
Is it safe? I'd say as safe as anything else we tend to use in the name of beauty.
Can't think of anything to say against the product except that I am worried about the repeated cycles of thawing and fridging. If some of the key ingredients are protein-based, they may degrade. I am very careful not to heat the oil too much when I take it out of the fridge to thaw. Maybe I'll make some single-use aliquots to avoid the repeated fridge-thaw but them they won't look as cute! oh well!!!
Long-term use? Don't know. I've used it for about 2 months. No side-effects except for happiness, so far.
Bottom line: I love it and would recommend it to anybody who's willing to try it. |

What a great review; I think you covered everything, very thoughtful. Another CK product that hits the mark. I'm thinking of trying it to see if it helps just in a general nutrition for hair sort of way. And, wonder if hubby would like to try it.

| You're welcome, cedar. That's right, I wonder if you don't NEED the nutrients, they would then be used by your body to improve hair condition. DH balked at idea of putting oil on his head...maybe you have better luck convincing yours. |

Thank you for a very detailed review!
Could you tell me how large is the bottle, and how many applications you can get from one bottle. Trying to decide I one bottle is enough for now (I want share it with my mom), or if I need to order two.

| doba, I'd say about quarter of a liter (8 oz) or more. I have been using it for about 2 month and have more than two-thirds left. I'd say 1 bottle should last about 6 months. HTH. |

I love this stuff too and need to order more. I equate this with having a mini spa aromatherapy session.
I pour a little on my fingertips then rub on my scalp. It feels great and tingles. Very relaxing. I try to leave on overnight or at least a few hours.
I also use Rogaine for a hereditary bald spot so I don't know if it's growing hair but I know that I leave less hair in the drain when I shampoo!
I also know that the ingredients are very nourishing ... and I have very long, chemically damaged and highlighted hair. |

| It should do both. I know it's definitely reduced the amount that falls out. Since I'm using Rogaine, I can't vouch what's increased growth. |

An idea for CareKate ... have you thought about setting up a free, internet-based e-mail account strictly for use by folks who want to order product from you? People are really experiencing frustration with PMing you through EDS, so maybe a Yahoo or Hotmail account that you can access at work via the internet would be the ticket (how about "CareKate@yahoo. com" or CareKate@hotmail. com")?
I find the Yahoo system to be easier to use and it has a large capacity in-box, so it would solve the problem of people not knowing if you got their PM ... and would probably end up being a boon to you because then you'd be receiving ALL the orders sent to you vs. possibly losing some through the EDS PM system. Just a thought.
Since PMing you is difficult, I will be re-posting this on a couple other CareKate threads hoping you see it! |
