Wondering if the silicone in this broke anyone out over here? |

I had problems using other VitC serums (ISC, SS, JB, etc.) and was thinking of giving up using VitC already when as a last experiment i took Skinmed.'s VitC. I didn't have the slightest problem with it (am on the 4th tube at the present already) and i love it. |

I'm sorry, i forgot to add something important : most of the silicone in Skinmed.'s VitC is volatile and is there only to help spreading it. |

What problems did you have with the previous Vit Cs? Breakouts or irritation? |

FaithTruth I think you know all about my experience with this product from other posts but I will post it again in case anyone missed those threads.
I have not experienced breakouts with the SkinMedica. My acne actually improved while I was using this and while I don't think that the SkinMedica caused the improvement in my acne it certainly doesn't seem to be a problem for me. |

Thanks guys! Theresa was so kind to send me a very generous sample of this and I have been testing it on a few spots. Feel like trying full face actually but not sure if I'm brave enough |

I'm more and more interested in this form of C too. A couple of Qs. I know some of you weren't happy C users before (except Marina) but I need to know if you get the 'glow' from this one. Did anyone establish the shelf-life because I'd probably buy this for travelling. I understand they're most likely water-soluble silicones for spreading. Does this mean it absorbs readily and you can use other active serums on top without stopping them from absorbing? What kind of texture is it? I imagine if Theresa etc are using it that it doesn't sting or feel in any way acidic. Is that right because I'd like to stop stinging for the summer months? |

Hi Molly,
you probably remember that i was quite unhappy with the other ViTC serums.
I've never really known what is meant with "glow", but it could be there (I like the look of my face after spreading the VitC, it’s clear and bright).
We’re still waiting for Poco coming back with the Shelf life.
Most of its silicones are volatile (are in there to help you spread the product easily and then vaporize off to only leave the actives in place). It’s rather a gel and spreads easily, absorbs completely within few minutes. I also use it in my eye area. But it stings a bit - not on full surface, rather spot-wise.
Rgds,

I have used sevreal C serums and the only one that gave my skin a "glow" was the Cellex-C advanced C serum. Although I have a strong feeling that the glow was actually irritation. To be honest with you I am sort of clueless as to exactly what the glow is supposed to be and what is supposed to cause it. lin23 is right about most of the silicones in this being volatile and my personal belief on this is that something applied afterwards can be absorbed by the skin. As for stinging. On occasion if my skin is feeling a little irritated the SkinMedica has caused some minor stinging. It also stings occasionally when I apply it near my eyes. |

Well yesterday I applied the serum to my undereyes and t zone, not my cheeks because that's the most sensitive area. So what happened was my cheeks started itching, nothing happened on my t zone and I didn't break out there today (I have broken out from one application of a product a few times before), but today when I applied my makeup my t zone was really dry and peeling/flaking a little. Also blackheads on my nose were more obvious today. I'll try maybe once more when my skin has calmed down, but like I suspected, I guess I don't have the luck of Theresa and Lin with this Vit C.......sigh. I was wondering though about layering this OVER emu oil? Maybe that might make it tolerable for me, or totally render it useless? |

FaithTruth let me just double check something. The area where you experienced the itching was where you DID NOT apply the SkinMedica? The dryness/flakiness is in your case probably not a good sign and the blackheads probably aren't either. One of my big problems with the C serums other than the SkinMedica is that they led to clogged pores and dryness. I agree you should give it another try when you skin has calmed down. Well....keep us updated. |

Yup, my cheeks are so sensitive that they can react to something I put on my undereye area - it's that bad. Now I'm at a loss for a backup plan. My normal Vit C powder mixed with emu irritates me, but the powder didn't before when I mixed it into my previous moisturizer. Topix green tea serum broke me out. Have no clue what to do now for antioxidants! Argh. |

Faithtruth,
If you're looking for antioxidant protection, you might want to try PSF' Berry Beneficial-really a nice product-no collagen building stuff though..not that I'm convinced vit.c does that anyway
Molly,
The texture of skinmedica is much like a dry silicone primer..it does absorb easily...feels great, but because of the texture I would layer any other serums (dmae etc.) under it not over. This is just intuitive..I haven't tried layering over when I use it, but I don't think it would work well. And, even though it's gentle, it does sting a tiny bit depending on whenther I've just exfoliated or something.I've only felt this once or twice..maybe after epidermx II. |

Isn't emu oil a penetration enhancer? I might be causing the ascorbic acid to penetrate too well for your skin type. Or it is possible that the previous moisturizer that you were using was too high pH or the C didn't dissolve in it. Or the moisturizer could have been a good base for the ascorbic acid and it was delivering an appropriate amount for you skin. |

Marina, by any chance do you know the ph of the SkinMedica Vitamin C Serum?
I like to layer a few things in the AM and it would be helpful to know this.
Thanks! |

No, sorry, I think Theresa either got it or came close to figuring it out...so maybe she'll chime in. I know there's a thread about it somewhere. |

Thanks for the replies. Lin's sending me a little sample so I'll be able to see for myself whether I want to join the silicone C club.
I would very much second Marina's suggestion of PSF's Berry Beneficial for a gentle anti-oxidant though I don't know if anyone really sensitive is using it. It does feel totally neutral and gentle. |

Yup I do think the emu makes the powder penetrate too deeply, OR my previous moisturizer made the powder ineffective...... |

So I've used this for about 4 days. It's difficult to fit an active silicone product into my regimen. First day I put it on first then applied Berry Ben + emu and it wasn't too attractive. Whilst the Berry ben absorbed fine through it the emu felt a little stickier than usual and it seemed like the silicones had cemented my face in place and wouldn't allow it to plump up like it usually does. It was better with Marina's suggestion, applying last and I could still feel an acid tingle. My face does feel a touch dryer than usual and it does still sting a bit so I'm still undecided. At least I don't feel compelled to wash it off though.
But something's having a fabulous effect on my skin because my horrid, spider vein on my nose has very suddenly begun to fade fast for the first time in two years I've been able to cover it with a bit of MMU. Could it be this? It's too quick surely. I'm going to do another post on that. I'd love to know what's caused it. |
