I'm looking for a diy that will keep my face gently exfoliated. Even if it is something I need to do daily. I have done and just did a glycolic peel and I really don't care for glycolic. I have dry skin which is a little sensitive. |

Hi Salli,
What percentage was the glycolic acid in the peel?
I know that everyone loves peels, but I'm not a big fan of them, personally.
Have you tried Carekate's aspirin mask? It's really nice ... not too irritating ... and the lovely thing is that you can really customize it.
Just take a few [4 or 5] plain old uncoated aspirin ... and put them in a "pinch dish". Add a little water ... or aloe vera gel or juice [the health food store type ... not the drugstore type] ... just enough to cover the aspirin ... in moments the aspirin will have "melted".
Now ... add a whipped egg white ... or clay ... or whatever until there is enough to cover your face.
I generally just use aspirin and water then add a bit of aloe vera gel for mine.
Put it on ... leave it for 10 minutes or so ... then very very gently massage it in tiny circles to help loosen it and any dead skin cells ... then rinse, rinse, rinse ... following up with your regular moisturizer etc.
If you do a search on "aspirin" here at EDS you'll find lots of variations to the aspirin mask.
It leaves your skin glowing ... and it's a gentle exfoliant that you can use once or twice a week.
If your skin is dry and sensitive, this mask should work well for you ... particularly since you can add things that won't further dry your skin.
The problem with peels is that your skin needs a few days to recover from them. Not so with the aspirin mask!
Unless you're allergic to aspirin ... it should be okay. And you can use it more than once a week ... but I'd start with once a week and see how your face reacts to that ... then increase frequency to twice a week etc.
You could also use a toner with a very low percentage of Salicylic Acid ... or Lactic acid etc ... but I'd start with the aspirin mask first ...
HTH

Mary, thanks I was hoping you would see this as all of your recommendations have worked extremely well for my skin. Other than the flakes, my skin is starting to look better than it has in quite a while. |

Hi Mary,
For some reasons, I could not do peels, I tried a number of peels but it stung so much each time I tried, so I gave up.
Thanks for the aspirin tip! I completely forgot about it. I'll have to try it again. That's the only one that I could handle. |

If your skin is not sensitive then you could use Cellcosmet Exfoliant daily. I adore this product and now use it daily on very wet skin with only a small amount for about 20 seconds. Once a week I leave it on for 2 minutes. |

Hi Salli
I am currently using Skin Biology's exfol serum which I apply to my face daily. I apply it to bare skin & allow 30 mins for the serum to activate before applying any other products on top.
As part of my exfoliating routine I also incorporate Epidermx II to help with scared areas and Ice Elements 2 Min Miracle Exfoliating Gel which helps to slough off any flakey skin.
If you are looking for a gentle leave on daily exfoliant then I would definately recommend the Exfol serum |

I add baking soda to my cleanser (cetephil) a couple of times a week. You can make it as gentle or harsh as you want by how much you add. |

I bought the Skin Doctors Microdermabrasion kit. It contains microdermabrasion crystals, AHA cream and a hand held battery operated device. I use it once a week and I actually think its very good. The next morning my skin looks great.
My skin doc recommends Nuface Polish and Peel mask - but I haven't tried this yet.
I used to use one of those exfoliating cleansers every day, you know the ones with the little beads in them. However, I think I was scrubbing away so much I was doing more harm than good. I have now switched to the OCM and do the microderm once a week. I think this cleanses my skin far more thoroughly than the rubbing and scrubbing every day. |
