Ok, hm.. I have rather full lips that are very red. Naturally red, if I bleed on my lips it doesn't show. I've always been ambivalent about my lips. I do like them, but sometimes I just want to tone down my natural colour, and that is my problem. How do I tone down my lips so they look more natural? I've never found a neutral colour that doesn't make my lips look weird. |

If your lips are already red, I think just use lip balm or gloss to make it moist. |

Well, I use gloss/balm just to moisturise my lips etc, but I really need some tips on how to tone down my natural colour. I'm also really pale, so my lips stand out. Not always what I want in meetings, job interviews etc. |

I have very pigmented full lips and I tone the color down with Nars Turkish Delight lipgloss. I like it because it doesn't wash me out. You can also apply your favourite shade of lipstick with some concealer underneath for that purpose. |

I think you can give MAC's Nymphette lipglass a try. |

I really like Jane Iredale's Just Gloss Lip Gloss. I got it as one of my free gifts with purchase and am just loving it. It has a fresh minty scent and a cool tingling feeling when you apply it and isn't too sticky like other glosses. Most of the time I just wear it alone or with a neutral lipliner instead of lipstick as I too have full lips and prefer to play up my eyes. You should give it a try. |

My new HG neutral is Clinique Black Honey. I love that it's not too dry, not too wet, and gives sheer buildable color. |

I think the LipFusion liner would work great for this. I ordered one in Pout, which looks like a chocolate brown in the swatch -- it is nowhere near chocolate brown. It goes on as a darker beige and definitely mutes my lips' natural color to a nude. I color in all of my lips with it and top with Jurlique lip balm. It looks best after it has 'soaked in' for a couple of minutes. |

Several nudifying lippies I like:
NARS Belle du Jour lipstick - best for warm undertones, slightly peachy, beige-nude.
NARS Orgasm lipgloss - this looks pinky-peach in the tube but is more of a golden-peach nude on my rosy lips.
Clinique Colour Surge Butter Shine lipstick in Adore U - very neutral nude lipstick with lots of glossy shine.
MAC Freckletone lustre lipstick - similar to Belle du Jour but a bit glossy rather than matte. |

Hi,
Julie Hewitt's 'kiki' is a very nice sheer, moisturizing balanced mauve that might tone it down a bit. i love the color. she also has camellia oil lip balms which are very nice.
Also, pout makes some beautiful nudes--i love their 'frumpy fran' lip polish, and 'strip off' lip color as well--either of these could make a nice natural base for you without making it look like your lips are covered in a color lighter than your own.
stila made some great ones too, but they seem to be all discontinued...

Thank you, all of you, for your suggestions!
Now I have to collect the courage to go lipstick shopping, my worst make up product! I haven't worn lipstick in probably... forever? Hopefully a nude lippi with som gloss on top will prevent me looking too washed out. |

Thank you for the compliment! Maybe I should dye my hair darker just to add some more contrast? Blood red lips, white skin and dark hair?
But, since I'm no lipstick girl, some tips on how to apply so it looks nice will be appreciated! |

Schnee,
I just thought of a great idea for you, inspired by another lip gloss thread ("does anyone know", re: bobbi brwn lip glosses): caramel/honey colored lip gloss!
It's a great neutralizer, and it leaves the lips looking nice and kissable, whereas any mauve/red reducing lip color can render some complexions wan or sallow. But a light caramel color will blend with your natural lip color very nicely and lend your complexion warmth, and it will not look like you are wearing much.
I've used bobbi brown's non-shimmer lip gloss in "honey," and it is excellent quality.

p.s. i don't know anything about you, but I have an image of you as snowy white with red red lips because of your name, Schnee! |

Honey colour! Great idea. I willl check it out, I do worry nude will wash me out completely.
And you have no idea how close your description is to the truth! I'm really pale, my hair is light blond, gry/blue eyes. I have NO colour besides my lips! Mascara is my best friend! And concealer as every flaw shows like a lighthouse on pale skin... |

Schnee,
I'm sure you can find this color anywhere in a drugstore brand to try it out... It exists practically everywhere, but in my opinion, is totally underrated as a flattering color... I personally avoid shimmer, since I grew up in LA and everyone's version of natural lips there is "pink-beige shimmer.' uggghh. but i am sure that bourgeois, or some such brand, has this color. Let us know how it goes!
