I currently use emu oil - it's done wonders for my barrier. Changing my normal cleanser too from Cetaphil (with SLS) to Spectro Jel which I just ordered. Is there anything else I can do for barrier building? Any vitamin supplements that might help? I can't use Cerave, Atopalm or Skinceuticals B5 serum - they irritated me.
PS. I went on an online hunt for detergent-free cleansers and it's truly amazing how many out there have them. Thank goodness for spectro jel - really hope it works out for me. |

looks like a very good start....
cleanser w/o harsh detergents and ph balanced
- I've never tried the spectro gel, but have seen it recommended elsewhere.
emu oil - GREAT stuff, isn't it?
I'm a bit one-sided 'cause I'm such a HUGE copper fan,
but I would suggest giving skin bio's copper peptide serum a try. start slow by diluting with water, and gradually work up to full strength if you can.
your skin will be very happy! |

Have always been curious about copper peptides but got scared off after reading some very terrifying reviews on MUA...... shall start another thread about my concerns. |

Try looking for moisturizers or serums that contain ceramides. The only line I can think of right now that has ceramides is Elizabeth Arden. I'm sure there are many other though.

Hi Faithtruth,
I've used Spectro Jel and Cetaphil...I found the Spectro Gel to be more drying than Cetaphil (which isn't hard to do since Cetaphil is SO non-drying!)...I'm also sold on the emu oil..can't live without it now...If you are thinking about supplements you might want to look into omega fatty acids...very good for the skin - especially omega fatty acid 3 (lots in salmon!) I take these in supplement form. With respect to barrier-building...You might want to give Prevage a shot (I'm using this now - a four-star anti-oxidant, IMHO - gets mixed reviews, tho)
Good luck!

I'm using Remergent Barrier Repair Formula after ISC Active Serum in the pm and Proheal in the am, and am really liking it. |

Hmmm the Spectro is more drying? Will have to be careful with that when it does arrive.
CK, I just looked at the Remergent Barrier Repair and it's quite intriguing. The ingredients are all completely foreign to me? What effects exactly do you see on your skin? Is it very hydrating? It's really pricey though |

Hi FaithTruth, yes, it is very moisturizing and it keeps my skin hydrated during these dry winter months (and it leaves a lovely sheen on my skin). I have been using it over two months now and have just reordered it. Though I can't pinpoint what it has done for me, my skin look healthier and better hydrated (though it's most probably a combined effect of other products I use). I'm sorry I can't explain its ingredients and what exactly they do. Hopefully other users will chime in and share their experience. |

I would have to second the Remergent Barrier Repair. I am not quite sure what it does either but it is a very unusual product in that it can supply the right amount of moisture regardless of the weather. I have used it both through winter and summer and found it excellent in winter and light enough to use in hot humid conditions. |

FaithTruth if you do decide to give the Remergent Barrier Repair a try please get samples. Despite the fact that this is supposed to be okay for even the most sensitive skins, I had a very bad reaction to it. While my reaction was probably unusual knowing how sensitive your skin is I would definetly recommend a sample!
BTW I also experienced irritation from the Atopalm Cream. How odd. |

I second the copper peptides suggestion. My skin feels and looks healthier with them. If you decide to try CP, just start very slowly, and you shouldn't have any problems. |
