In the past couple of years I have developed a brown discoloration on my eyelids, below the brow but not touching the brow - about 3/8-1/2" below the brow. It's a bit yellow at the top, almost looks like fatty deposits, and a little bumpy. Not noticable to others I'm sure but it is to me. Is this sun damage? I don't have oily skin, in fact it's very dry, but for some reason my eyelids are like an oil field, can barely wear shadow any more, even with primer.

Does any one have this, or know what it stems from, and if so, any suggestions on what, if anything, can be done about it? I can live with it but I don't want it to get worse.

Thanks!

Hi oriana808 - I mentioned in the spider vein thread that you may want to try a mild retinoid, and to start out with the mildest, Avene Ystheal Contour Des Yeux. It contains (I think) .025% retinaldehyde. While some people can tolerate stronger retinoids even around the eyes, I can't and this has refined my eye area nicely. I've now graduated to a stronger formula, Avene Retrinal .05% retinaldehyde.

Thanks m.april, appreciate the suggestions. Does it sound like sun damage? The yellowy color is a bit strange Shock I was also thinking that I could use my rosehip oil since it is a mild version of retinol, at least to start. Spider veins, eyelids, Vit. A, oh my - there's a little circle happening here Smile

Oriana, you are not alone.. I have also noticed this recently. Kind of in the fleshy area between my eye lid and brow bone.. mine is more towards the inner area (bridge of nose). I was also wondering what on earth it might be...

Yes that's exactly where mine is. I googled the symptom and found something interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthelasma

Yes it is a kind of fatty deposit, which is what I suspected - although I heard that sun damage can cause a yellowing of the skin so I wasn't sure.

For the eyelid area the exact name is: Xanthelasma palpebra.

Interesting, I don't have, to my knowledge, any Asian or Mediterranean background in my family. So it must be high cholesterol! I haven't been tested for cholesterol in years (mainly because there are no doctors in Canada Sad ) but did test slightly high some years back. I'm a vegetarian and rarely eat fatty foods, but it can be hereditary and due to lifestyle - I eat well but have other bad vices. Confused It's also a sign of cirrhosis - yikes.

oh, my palpebra... I can remember that name. Well, I first thought mine was some make-up thing but then I noticed it one day when I had no cover-up on my eye, so wondered if it could be one of the new potions I recetnly added.

I have only noticed it in the past couple of weeks though, so maybe I better look at my cholesterol. I have never had a problem with it, but maybe I overindulged at Xmas... Laughing cirrhosis is not something I think I have to worry about... though maybe my liver could do with a good cleanse.. hmm..
