Dare I say that the elusive search for the perfect mineral makeup is over? Could I have found my HG? I'm going to be brave and boldly say "YES". It is....drum roll....Lumiere mineral makeup.
You can do a search by my name to find about a bazillion threads I've either posted in or started regarding MMU. I have tried them all, most recently Alima and U Glo Girl...I start out loving them, then my skin goes all whacky - I either break out, or my skin feels dry and tight, I start to get crepy under my eyes, etc etc....It had gotten to the point where I was back on the liquids...(now that reads odd, doesn't it?) But as an avid reader of the MMM board, I gave in to the raves I kept reading about and to the UNBELIEVABLY low pricing of Lumiere. You have to compare other MMU's to understand how reasonable the prices are....so I ordered a crapload of samples from both the VeenaVelvet formulation and the Fairly Flawless. They are both gorgeous and feel like silk going on and they leave you with perfect skin - not matte, not glowy, just creamy, poreless and perfect. You also can barely feel it on and it is buildable. Best of all neither of the formulations make me breakout or, and this is the most important to me, make my skin feel dry. Whoopee!!! The Fairly Flawless is more for normal to dry skin (that is my favorite) and the Veena Velvet is geared for the oilier skin, but you know they are BOTH great - Other terrific things to note?

I would SO love to have a "MMU for Dummies" including a rundown on some of the brands etc.
I am truly an idiot when it comes to MMU and I always though it would be a case of buy one powder and poof! you would have everything you need.. on the few occasions I have wandered onto MMU websites I take one look at the huge range of choices and layers and quickly close the window.
Lumiere is one brand I did glance at the site of because I had heard before it was supposed to be good. But I have no idea where to start for purchase or application.  |

tiger, all you need for application (in my book) are a good quality brush and a flocked sponge and away you go! The brush that Lumiere sells is MUCH softer than my chanel, etc brushes. It's not as luxurious as my Alima powder brushes, but for the price you might want to try it.^-^
BTW--- I went ahead and ordered a sample pack of Lumiere's makeup. Even though I'm satisfied with Alima, I've tried out every other kind under the sun (EDM, Larenim, Aromaleigh, Cory, Meow, Uglogirl, etc etc), so it will be nice to compare this stuff to everything else. |

Hey Liz - I thought I was satisfied with Alima too - but then I got really dry from it, dang it all....I am a "tad" bit older than you,(okay, alot older!) so maybe for my 40-ish skin, I just needed something more? I think the squalene in Lumiere's Fairly Flawless is what makes it work so well for me...but then again, their Veena Velvet doesn't have Squalene and that doesn't dry me out either - I love it.
UGlo didn't last on me for some reason. I think the coverage was just a little too light for me or something - plus, it's a little pricey, though Melissa is a doll over there - just so nice.
I've tried all the others you mention too! So it looks like you're as bad as I am!!
Let me know how you do with Lumiere!

| Sorry to get a bit OT, but I have a problem and maybe one of you here can help. One of the biggest reasons I have never worn foundation (liquid or powder) is because they always bring out every little hair on my face, even the tiniest peach fuzz on my nose. Luckily the hair on my face is blonde but I can't stand the way foundation sits on them and makes them stand out, particularly in the sun. Unfortunatley the fuzz around my jaw line is pretty long and I'm planning to inquire with my derm about that prescription hair minimizing cream. Until then, how does everyone here deal with this problem? Is everyone else out there really that hairless or am I just overly paranoid about the way it makes them look? |

Your just paranoid! Just kidding, I had the same "fuzzy" face issue....argh, it drove me crazy just like you said "particularly in the sun"! Shaving my face was the best thing I ever did for that, its soooooo nice to look in the mirror and NOT see a wookie.

Heya Vonstella -
I'm using the loose minerals - I have read great things on the liquid one though, but I haven't tried it. Did I miss that they have pressed as well? I must be blind. I'll go check it out. I thought they only had loose and liquid...
Also, I too suffer from cheek fuzz, though blonde like you... The foundation doesn't seem to accentuate it, even in the light, but I have trimmed it just so it's closer to my face but you really gotta be super duper close up in order to even see it.
I am really loving this line.

| Vonstella--- be careful of the pressed and liquid Lumiere--- I believe they both contain squalane, which breaks a lot of people out. I ordered samples of the veena velvet since it's squalane-free--- HTH! |

| I just order the sample pack based on the e-mail response color (True Med #2) they said Light Medium Beige so I chose that and the one shade lighter and the one darker a mauve blush and cat eyes foundation. Can't wait has anyone use the liquid version? |

Mariav thanks for the review, I'm off to order the sample kit - although with so much to choose from I think it's going to take a couple of hours  Then I'm off to try and return the new unopened expensive bottle of liquid foundation I just bought.
Also thanks for your input re MMU facts, very helpful. I've been avoiding MMU because it was such a daunting learning curve.
Can you give a little more detail about the difference between Flawless Face and Veena Velvet? I have mature, dry skin. Also wonder what type of squalane they use, fish or olive - will have to ask them, will report back.

Thats funny! I picked flushed too, it was the only one that I figured was foolproof! I chose Coco for my ES, I like drama... |

I'm sure Kim will answer you on the squalene question. She's so nice. That's the biggest difference I think between the FF and the VV - the squalene is in the Flawless Face which is geared for the dryer skin type. I'm in love with it (obviously!). But I did get samples of the VV too - and lo and behold that didn't dry me out either....no tight feeling, no parched dehydrated look to my skin...There are differences in the color though - for example the Light Beige in FF has def. more warmth to it than VV Light Beige. I don't know if the added squalene makes the colors different - but b/c the samples are so cheap, plus the discount, plus the free shipping, I didn't care about ordering a stack of 'em!
Please let us know how you make out with it. I could gush all day, but like everything else, your mileage may vary....

Squalane from olives, although Kim also seems to be a victim of the misconception that the spelling automatically implies one source or the other (sp. Squalane can be from both shark and olive sources). No offense to her, it is a confusing and complicated issue, that spelling thing!
Anyway olive squalane is good . |
