I have keratosis pilaris (chicken skin/red bumps etc) on thighs and what works well to keep it at bay is Dermadoctor KP duty. However, I don't ike the price (about $36). Does anybody have something cheaper that works? TIA |

I don't have a suggestion for a replacement, but can I ask you about KP Duty? I have a sample tube that I've just started using. Can you tell me what your results were with it? Thanks! |

I have had good luck with Alpha Hydrox AHA lotion, or Ahava mud soap. Right now my skin is doing well (for the first time in years, regarding my KP)
and I don't *have* to use either. I noticed a dramatic difference (over time) in the decrease of my KP from taking zinc and from using a bathbrush to exfoliate in the shower, though. |

Hi Tam,
My results have been pretty good - almost 90% reduction in chicken skin on my thighs after 3 months of daily use. I use it only once per day. The problem is that it come back if I don't use KP Duty. I used some store-bought alpha-hydroxy but to not much avail. Seems I have to keep coming back to the KP. As far as I can tell, it's AHA + urea, so it should not be too hard to reproduce. Must be the pH or something. At least for me, rubbing Curel + Alphahydroxy does do it.

Shaving I use products on my kp also, but they are significantly more expensive (retin-a and salex lotion). I find that in addition to using these, shaving my upper arms (where the kp is) really helps keep them clear and smooth. of course you can still see some of the red dots, but they are much less noticeable. |

I've been using Amlactin on my legs. It sort of seems to help. I've got Carmol 20 written down on a postit note, i think that's also area?
I've yet to find anyhting with BOTH urea and AHA. Let me know if you find something good and cheap. |

I use Lac-Hydrin and it has 12% AHA. It cost about $9.00 in WalMart. There is a good review in Make-up Alley web-site (American version, packaging) |

Shaving again! This is intriguing.. I can feel I'm edging toward trying this method of exfoliation, it could be sooo much cheaper..
I have the dermalogica body cloth, and that is pretty good for upper arms, it keeps the soft. What I HATE though, is when they get red/blotchy. I wonder if zinc helps that issue.. |

another suggestion ...
cp's, in the form of Protect and restore body lotion (skin biology) for body use, exfol serum or cream and a biological healing oil like emu.
a good cleanser certainly couldn't hurt either - no high ph, and no harsh detergents.
seems some have had success with this over at sb forum.
tho, (as with everything else) it doesn't work for everybody.
you could try 2 oz. of the p&r for 12$, the full size 8 oz sells for $37. |

I don't have KP too badly - but the back of my arms will get pretty bad if I don't keep up with it.
Two products I use with good luck are Jan Marini's Bioglycolic Body Scrub ($28 for 12 oz at EDS) and NeoStrata's Lotion Plus (15% glycolic acid @ $20 for 6.8 oz). I use the NeoStrata on my knees & elbows too. Of course, both of these require that your body tolerate glycolic acid . A little goes a long way with both. What works best for me though is a sisal washcloth to scrub the area on a regular basis.
Good Luck!

I second the suggestions to try AmLactin and LacHydrin. That + manual exfoliation in the shower + a good moisturizer (body oil in my case) have done wonders in making my upper arms and thighs much, much smoother. But any kind of AHA or BHA should work. |

P.S: Hi Olyn! |
Hi! Long time no see, hope all is well! I haven't been posting too much lately...probably a combination of: being suddenly very busy, finding a skincare routine that is cheap and effective and that I am finally content with, and maybe a little bit because this forum suddenly rapidly expanded!
How much is the KP lotion, btw? I wonder if something like a combo of manual exfoliation and a 2% BHA treatment (like Paulas Choice) would be helpful? |

Hi back Olyn,
Good to have you again.
The KP duty is glycolic acid and urea (don't know the exact concentrations). Here is the info from Dermadoctor website:
Glycolic Acid - Powerful AHA
Sodium Glycolate – Glycolic Acid salt with buffering action
Green Tea – Botanical antioxidant with soothing anti-redness action
Urea - Humectant
Algae – Soothing botanical
Sodium Hyaluronate –Potent hydrating agent
Dimethicone – Barrier agent – reduces moisture evaporation
I've tried mixing alpha-hydroxy and Curel but the mix didn't work as well as the KP duty. I hate having to buy this every month!!!@#$$%!@#!!

I have just ordered Paula's Choice BHA 2% Lotion for this problem on my upper arms. It isn't too abd but I'd like my arms to be smoother.
I'll post up how I go.
P.S. I couldn't remember how to spell KP (the full name) so I typed in chicken.
