So I just finished eating a Nabisco 100 calorie snack pack - it was the Ritz Snack Mix and I'm about to eat the bag it came in...is that wrong? I love that I know I just ate 100 calories, but it's not holding me over at all. I want to eat two or three more bags...so let's see...that's another 300 calories, making my snack total - 400. (I really won't eat more bags, but I want to!)
How come I just can't buy a regular bag and portion out the equivalent of 100 calories worth? It's so much cheaper that way! I also bought the 100 calorie Sun Chips. But all I would have to do is buy the big bag, portion it out and be done with it. If I'm eating right out of a bag or box of snacks -FORGET it! I will not stop eating them...if I put them in a bowl, put the box/bag away, I'm less likely to get my lazy ass off the couch for a refill.
It seems that the convenient 100 calorie snacks are a huge hit - they even have them for kids now.
Do you guys buy them?

I used to be addicted to the chocolate chip cookie 100 calorie packs, yum!! However, I recently decided to cut out almost all sugar in an effort to help my skin, which means that cookies, etc, got the boot!!! Now when I snack I usually eat a handful of baby carrots dipped in hummus and a few olives or artichoke hearts... |

Those are for ppl with self control which I lack! I can sit there and eat half a box of Chips Ahoy alone. |

I buy them, even though they cost so much more. I need someone else to police my portion control. It is so much easier to sneak a little extra if there is a big bag open but, if you have to open a fresh bag and know exactly how many calories more your eating...it helps me. |

I love hummus. Tribe's 40 Spices is my favorite. Of course, I eat it with half a box of Wheat Thins...sigh...I should buy the baby carrots for a healthier alternative...
Wow, I wish I had the self control to cut out sugar - I think I would benefit from that as well.
I'm going to go have a V8 now....just not quite as good as Nacho Cheese Doritos...

I like snacks that are packaged that way (in reasonable portions ). And they work for me as long as I take it with me... forget about trying to stick to one when I'm at home and they are calling me from the pantry. |

I was actually going to suggest this. Save the snack packs for when you are at work and cannot reach for another. At home, try not to think about them, and instead go for healthier options for snacks. I LOVE apples and peanut butter, or bananas and peanut butter, plain yogurt with honey, radishes with salt, quinoa, rice cakes, carrots and dip, etc.
I've attempted to give up crackers, chips, etc. for my resolution. I initially attempted to cut out processed foods, but it is hard. I've got hypoglycemia and I get sick if my blood sugar is too low, so sometimes I need to grab a Luna bar, or granola bar to get my blood sugar up.
But I'd totally devour an entire bag of Doritos given the chance. I just don't buy them anymore. Out of sight, out of mind. I've really tried to not allow myself to purchase any of it, because if it's not in the house I won't be able to eat it.
Being on campus is tough though |

Maria, you're my hero, I should go have a V-8 too, LOL! As far as the wheat thins go, have you tried Kashi's TLCs (Tasty Little Crackers)? I like them a lot, and DH, who is NOT w health-food fan, says they taste as good as wheat thins, but they have like, 8 different kinds of whole grain in them so they provide a lot of fiber. Just an idea... |

I like those snack packs just for the grab-n-go convenience. But while losing weight on Weight Watchers, I found that since the portion was already self-contained, I didn't have to risk exposing myself to temptation by counting or measuring a "serving". Cuz I get outta control with the pieces that are not full pieces (well, I can't really count it because it's not a whole piece and I don't want to throw it away, so eating these little pieces won't be too bad...) And then I wouldn't lose weight that week for some reason. |

I really love those little 100 calorie chocolate bars. I've bought Cadbury Thins, Hershey Sticks and Kit Kat bars (which were only 80 calories). I have NO control when it comes to chocolate and I will eat the entire bar ... no matter how big it is. Atleast with these I feel more restrained. However, when I'm having one of "those days" ... oh yeah ... I grab a couple packages at once. So much for calorie control. |

Oh, I love these too! I thought that was such a great idea when they first came out because when it comes to chocolate, if it's there, I'm eating it! With the Cadbury Thins, I love that I can eat a whole bar and not over-do it. |

Do you know that 5 Ritz crackers are about 100 calories? I can pop 5 of them in my mouth all at once. It's ridiculous. |

But, if you buy the Ritz Bits, you can eat more. |

I like the Cadbury thins. 100 calories for a chocolate bar, and I get my chocolate fix!
(but sometimes I am tempted to eat 2)

I have a real love for chips and chocolate.
I haven't eaten it in 6 months - everytime I get the craving I think of the sugar making my skin sag and look awful and the transfats killing my heart!
I now reach for a piece of fruit -and the cravings don't come as often. |

Unfortunately, even the "healthy" nut and fruit bars have a ton of sugar. I'm still trying to find one with splenda that tastes good. |
