I did a search, but couldn't find that this had been covered before.
Does anyone know what the general shelf life would be of a shampoo, conditioner, etc.? I just bought a 1 litre of AG Shampoo from this hair salon (most of this salon's hair products are discounted, so I'm thinking they must buy overstocks and stuff) and on the bottom it says it was packaged on April 2006. Since it's a HUGE amount of shampoo and will take me over a year to use I'm sure (since I use other stuff at the same time ... switch off and on) ... could I expect it might last about 2 years (ish) from the "made" date? I've never really thought before about expiry dates on hair products because usually I find something new before I finish anything! |

Sorry, i dont think i can help alot.
but i think generally it is within a year if you have opened it and two years if not opened. then again it depends on where you put ur shampoo, of cos in most cases u would leave it in the bathroom. the more humid your bathroom is, the faster everything will go off.
I've had salon brand shampoo went off in about 8 months, and supermarket brands that lasts more than a year. |

That's the info I've gathered over the years too. Also adding that the ingredients in the shampoo or conditioner could also determine how long a product lasts before smelling or looking like it turned bad. |

We were actually talking about this at my hair stylist's studio a few months ago.
Both said that shampoo will last for years. It's a marketing gimmick that it turns bad after a year. |

Mt Hairdresser always told me that shampoo last for years. Conditioner a little less. He says that if the smell or the texture change to stop using it but that in general a open bottle of shampoo should last 2-3 years. |

Thank you for your replies. So I guess this shampoo, even though nearing it's one year old in a few months, should be good for atleast another year or more. Whew! I love getting good deals, but not if you buy a product that will expire before you can use it up. |
