Hebe's pictures are so great and I want to get a Canon. Can you all recommend the best Canon to get and the best printer to go with it? I need one to get close ups of permanent makup work. Would you all please give your opinions? Hebe, I know yours is a Canon, but what size?

patty,
i think i recommended a camera to you before--mine is a canon, too. it was relatively inexpensive and takes amazing pics!
a friend who works in the digital camera business only buys the canon sd elph line for his personal use, and i took his information! the battery lasts for a long time and you do not have to use crappy duracells--it is a canon battery. i love it--here is a link to the latest one:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=13019
and to some older versions on ebay:

They are small, and cute, and durable, and well-priced for what you get. I also have this camera case, which makes me love my camera even more:

Hi Patty,
I think it was Avalange indeed telling about the Canon, we have 3 camera's here, my husband is a photographer so he has a very fancy Canon EOS20d and a Leica but that is for really professional pictures. I myself use a Canon Powershot. I love that camera.
The ones Avalange talks about are excellent choices. |

Hi hk,
Yes, the ones I provided links to are all powershots--they are amazing at point and shoot, and have an excellent macro mode--just look at any of my closeups and you can see hairs and pores on my skin that even I can't see! and that's what you get with an ANCIENT version of this camera (sd200 vs. new sd700!) imagine what the new sd700 can do!

Thanks girls!! What about a printer for my office? I read some of the reviews of Canon's printers and they're mixed. Can you all offer advice? I'm planning on making a purchase very soon and don't want to goof.

@Patty, depending on what do you want your printer to do? printing pictures? what sizes? what paper? brochures? or just letters? |

Well it all really depends on what you are looking for and what you want to use the camera for. Are you an avid photgrapher, a beginner, somewhere in between? Do you like SLR cameras or just point and shoot. It's really hard to recommend cameras without knowing what your needs are. I would suggest doing a search on various review sites. This really helped me out when looking for a new camera. I have a passion for photography and as I travel quite often I am always taking loads of pictures. I already have 2 "film" cameras - an SLR and a point and shoot with a built in extra zoom lens, but recently wanted to add a digital camera to my collection. I was looking for something subcompact with loads of features, a good standard zoom lens and the option to change lenses as well. I also wanted something that had some SLR type features. After doing loads of research I decided to get the Canon Powershot A710 IS. And I must say I'm really happy it so far. Loads of options and features. It's great for when I'm travlling as it doesn't take up much room and it still gives me excellent pics. |

Oh, I'm sure it would help if I told you what the camera and printer would be used for. I do permanent makeup, ie., eyeliner, brows and lips. Yep, tattoos. I want to get really close up shots of my work to add to my website. I've been using a Kodak and the Kodak Docking Station and it's okay, but it doesn't do those macro shots. I want to get those wonderful closeups like Avalange and Hebe.
Thank you two sweeties for taking the time to help me. I'm just crazy about you two girls. I can't wait to go to Paris to visit Avalange and then I get to go to the Netherlands to visit Hebe. LOL!!! Just kidding. But I'd love to "work" on you two gals and if you're ever in Tennessee, come on in and we'll have some fun with my "stuff".

Hmmm!!! I would if I knew how. I am going to mail some of my work to my website designer to put on my site. Unfortunately, the quality of the pictures suck. I'm going to be impressive when I get my new camera though so I'll let you know. I have a lot of things to add to my website but if you want to check it out it's BeautyandBeyondCompany.Com. BTW, the picture on the site, if you choose to look, is a very old one. You'll have to picture an older, fatter me. LOL!! Sad but true. |

Thank you hkyarrington for that link. I've generally read pretty glowing reviews like those and that's why I'm psyched! Canon lenses always seem to be good (have had many Canon SLRs -- still use them -- as well as Nikon) and I like that the G7 has a viewfinder.
Patty, we recently bought a Canon MP830 printer and really like it. It's much more sophisticated than our current needs require, but once we decide on a digital camera I'm sure we'll be using more of its features. |

M. April, would that printer be compatible with any Canon Digital? Is it expensive to operate? It seems like every review I read concerning Canon Printers for the digitals is negative. |

patty,
you will love the canon sd powershot elph series. it's an excellent camera, with too many confusing names. The best thing about it is that the macro is all automatic, but can also be adjusted manually (well not manually, but you can adjust the settings). I've never adjusted the settings, all I do is press a little flower button (i.e. macro) on the camera, and voila! Instant macro mode. That's how I've taken all of my photos. Easy as pie!
I am scared of tattoos, patty, but I'd loooove to see your work, please let us know when you get the right pics and post them! thx!

I second that! I have had the Canon Digital Elph PowerShot SD 700 IS since the spring, and before that I had the PowerShot SD 450 for about 3 years. The SD450 was a good camera - generally took good pictures but sometimes had problems with blurring, especially in low light situations. If I wanted to take pictures at night, I definitely had to use a tripod or steady the camera on something. I LOVE the 700 IS. It is smaller, thinner, has a bigger display screen, and takes AMAZING pictures. As an example, I went to Istanbul for Thanksgiving with a friend who is seriously into photography and has a big fancy camera with lots of lenses, etc. Several of my pictures came out better than hers - even at night, I was able to get great shots, and no blurring. |

Hi Patty - The Canon MP830 printer doesn't say in its manual that it's compatible with all Canon digital cameras. Rather, it lists all of the memory cards that work with it, and there are many. Also, a card adapter is available.
As far as the expense of operation, I'm assuming you're referring to ink cartridges. If you leave it on the pre-set ink density setting, it CAN go through a bit of ink! However, it's possible to change this setting to a lower density. |

I LOVE canon digicams. Their point and shoot camera's are the best on the market IMO. Mine's an older version it's the SD300 and looking to upgrade to the SD 630 or so just because I want to . My old camera does enough as it already but the greedy person in me wants the newer, better version. I have yet get a printer myself, but those have to be handy for a few hundred bucks instead of going to the store and printing prints for $.30/piece. |

@patty I myself have a HP2710 and I am very happy with that, it makes nice quality pictures, it also is a fax and a scanner. The scanner is okay not fantastic. The only bad thing of it is I can't put a lot of paper for copying or faxing (i have to lay it down on the glass)
At my Amsterdam home I have an Epson printer, also a scanner but not a fax, which is excellent as well, and the scanner is much better. |

I love Canon too!
I used to have canon IXUS40 and absolutely loved it! It's relatively small and not heavy at all, so you can take it to everywhere. And I think it's enough for everyday use.
I'm thinking of getting a Canon IXUS 900Ti or IXUS 850. Which one would you girls recommond? Would love to hear from you. Seems that you're quite professional:) |
