I heard that DMAE only temporarily tightens the skin, like for 24 hours. Is this true? |

I don't know the answer to that, but I want to piggyback ride on your post. Is DMAE ok to use long-term? |

DMAE is naturally occuring in small amounts and declines as we age. It's very abundant in fish, which is why Dr. Perricone likes salmon for his 3-day natural facelift. With salmon you also get the ALA and other fatty acids.
The tightening and lifting effects of DMAE on the skin are cumulative with regular use. So, at first, you may see the effect for only a little while. But each subsequent use builds on this and tightens and lifts the skin more and more. Over time you end up with more lifted and tightened skin.

Ari, do you know if Candy's DMAE 6% is the strongest available out there? I'm about to run out of my DMAE 4% sample and think I will have to reorder. |

Is it easy to mix yourself? Can you juat add the powder to destilled water and apply? Is it pH sensitive? |

All the studies on the efficacy of DMAE were done at 4%. There are those who contend that 6% does not provide any additional benefit. But I disagree. Candy's 6% DMAE Serum is far and away the best I've used. I used to make my own but it was never as good as Candy's.

Monica, it is an active that dissolves in water. If you're planning to make it yourself, use distilled water and add Hyaluronic Acid to draw moisture to the skin. By itself, DMAE can be a bit drying for some skin types. |

Hi Monica34 - I'm using PSF DMAE Serum. It's the amine type at 3%. It's my understanding that PSF formulated their product to duplicate what was used in a Johnson & Johnson study. The pH is around 10 and this is apparently key. It doesn't contain HA because Darren of PSF said it would lower the pH (if I understood him correctly) and thus wouldn't be quite as effective. I've been very pleased with it and have just re-ordered.
I don't have to use it every single day to notice a firming effect. Sometimes I do use it on consecutive days, but I often use it only every other day or so. But I think any DMAE product has to be used fairly regularly to maintain results. |
