To those of you who get facials. If you're given a choice of a facial steamer or damp, hot towels, which do you prefer?
Thanks for any feedback you can give.

I like the steamer because I get to lay there for several minutes and it's so relaxing. I fall asleep! The towel makes me feel like I can't breathe. |

Very Interesting.
Any other opinions? |

Definitely like the steamer over the towels. Makes me feel too claustrophobic and the towels get cold after awhile. |

I second Genie's observations. I like the steamer much better than the towels, because sometimes the towels start off too hot on the face and then cool down too fast! |

Steamer for me, too. However, my esthetician sometimes uses both -- the towels are never too hot and she doesn't leave them on for a long time. Either one relaxes me, but sometimes the steamer makes the air a bit heavy for me to breathe comfortably. |

defintely a steamer. Because not only is it so soothing and relaxing..it looks so cool and opens up your pores to be cleaned. |

I did about 4 times of facial ...I think steamer is only good for my nose area, it really burnt my cheek. Is steamer good for dry skin? |

Always the steamer because the hot towels can cause more broken caps and aggrevate rosacea if too hot, or so I was advised. My esthetician puts the steamer very close, but not on too long. Very relaxing and really opens the pores. |

Neither. The steam dries out skin and can break capillaries. The hot towels really are used to take off exfoliate and masks. Try a facial that uses galvanic current. Its an electric current that opens pore and makes blackheads and pimples very easy to extract. And its great for sensitive/ rosacea skin types. |

My beautician usually does both, but I prefer the steamer because she can adjust it to the "ozone" setting or something which is basically an oxygen steam & it makes my skin glow! |

Another vote for the steamer. I think it's more effective than towels because it seems like I have more extractions done with steam. |

I like both towels and the steamer but prefer the steamer. This may sound a little odd but I like how the moist air makes my nose feel when I breath in. I guess living in the desert and breathing dry air all the time makes breathing steam feel very soothing! |

tried both and prefer the steamer
i do enjoy the hot towels esp if they are scented with lavender. however, the towels are generally too hot to start with and then cool off quickly, the steamer proveds constant gentle heat.
i had a lady who liked to steam my face for 30mins before extraction - she claimed that the normal 10 mins doesn't open the pores fully. had glowing skin then but stopped going to her, couldn't afford her 3 hour facials! |

I really appreciate all the responses you all have given and I really think I'll get both. They're not that expensive on E-Bay. If anyone has the time, would you mind going to EBay to see if any on there are similar to the ones your skin care professional used?
And what about the suggestion for the galvanic current machine to use for facial cleaning? Any other opinions about that? |

Is galvanic current the same as ultrasonic dermasound? |

Patty, I may be totally wrong here, but is the galvanic current the thing that "zaps" your skin and is really good for driving products into the skin AND blasting the daylights out of zits? If so, then YES, get the galvanic current! Those things ROCK! Otherwise, someone please educate me on what galvanic current does - I haven't had a facial in a LOOOOONG time! |

You are talking about high frequency current. It’s a glass electrode that makes a buzz noise. It helps to speed the metabolism of the skin and does zap zits! It also puts an antibacterial layer on the skin.
Galvanic current is different....it works like this. The person getting the facial holds a negative electrode...the esthetician puts ionized gels and any other antioxidant you want in the skin, and then uses positive rollers on the face. So the two forces pull together like a magnet and push the product in to the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis) So in weeks to come your new skin cells that are coming to the surface are encapsulated with the products you pushed in your skin. So your skin looks awesome for weeks to come. |

Wow, thanks SkinGirl! I appreciate the clarification!
Question: If your skin has a bad reaction to the products that are used with galvanic current, does that mean your skin will look like cr@p for weeks to come, too? To avoid that, would you have to try the products first, and then if they agree with your skin, it would be OK to use them with galvanic at the following facial? |

Marla, have you ever tried BioMedic Cleanser or Jan Marini Cleanser. JM has one with and without glycolic acid. I really like both BioMedic and JM.
