Thought I'd post here instead of bogging down the sea kelp thread.
I've never shipped anything outside the U.S. I know I need to fill out a customs form, probably the green one since they're under 4 lbs. I don't want any duty taxes to be tacked on for the recipients for the sea kelp. I was instructed to list as gift and under $15. I was trying to fill it online at usps.com, but they require a phone number for the receiver of the package. If I were to go into the post office do I need the # to fill out?
TIA! |

I'm also in Canada and although I haven't shipped goods overseas, any time I get a package FROM overseas with the green customs' form, there is no phone # added.
I believe the only time you need to add a phone # is when you are shipping via courier so that they can call the addressee if necessary.
You should definitely mark the package "gift" to avoid any duty or taxes. |

I did mark as gift on the online form, but they also want a detailed description as they say marking it as just gift will cause some red flags. Will conditioner or cosmetics raise a flag?
*Note* They do want phone #'s, but it isn't listed on the customs form. It's more for records I suppose. |

You can't do the form or shipping label online the system just won't let you do it without the phone #. However, if you just fill the form out (green one should work) at the post office you don't need the phone #. You don't even need the phone number for the long form.
I would not put cosmetics but think that Hair Conditioner sounds better. As for the value I don't know if it matters what you put if you check gift. I have sent packages with values over $15 and the recipient has not been charged customs duties.
Fee free to PM me if you have any additional questions. |
