well, it is almost official.. we will soon be proud parents (OK, if you call up to 5 months away soon). Hopefully by June we will be able to welcome two little furbabies into our home. After a lot of consideration, we (think) we have finally settled on a couple of Korats (runners up were Russian Blue and Burmese).
The Korat is quite a rare breed, so I was wondering if any of our family here on EDS happened to own one? |

Never heard of that breed. They are gorgeous if I found them correctly. Are these the ones tiger_tim?

YES!! That is a Korat.. they have a beautiful blue coat with silver tips, though just a single layer unlike Russian Blues.. and they have the most drop dead beautiful eyes. Very much a people cat.
I had a rescue cat that was part Korat (I dont think he was full blood) and he displayed all the typical characteristics of the breed, both physically and in his personality.
They are from Thailand and used to be given in pairs as wedding presents and are considered a good-luck cat. It is the eyes that are most enchanting and Thai poets have written "The eyes shine like dewdrops of a lotus leaf"
Scroll down the page of this site till you reach Gi-Gi Moon Dancer and Chintina Blu Rose - check out the eyes on those babies! WOW.

They truly have the most unique eyes. I'm sure you will enjoy your new babies when they come. |

oh lord, if I ever went to a cat show... there would be serious problems - aside from the fact I would be all watery eyed (no, not allergies, just envy and sadness of not having my own moggy) and woudl probably come home having signed up for a litter of kittens.
But we are definately going down on teh list for 2 Korat kittens as we need to have one each to nurse at night - otherwise we might end up in divorce court for "irreconcilable differences" regarding possession of the lap cat (can you imagine the custody fight?)
My husband wants to call them "Haramaki" and "Kotatsu". A haramaki is a kind of band Japanese wear around their tummies to keep them warm (especially pregnant women and those with delicate digestive sytems). He figures a cat will make a good haramaki in the evenings when he is watching TV. A kotatsu is a low coffee table with an extra wooden table top. In winter you put a huge quilt over the table and then put the second top back on to create a kind of "tent". Under the table is a heater and so you tuck your cold tootsies under the quilt and the heat of the table keeps them warm. In Japan people who spend all their time in winter half under the kotatsu at called "kotatsu neko" (neko = cat) because in winter the family cat usually can be found curled up under the table keeping warm. Hubby figures that the 2nd cat will make a good foot warmer, hence the name "Kotatsu". |

Korats are absolutely lovely, though as the owner (well, who owns who is up for questioning) of a Russian Blue I couldn“t not like them. |

we actually toyed with getting one Russian Blue and one Korat, but in the end thought it just best to get a male and female from the same litter. I am pretty much a sucker for any blue cat though!! |

Blue cats are very very elegant and beautiful. I used to have a blue whippet, and have a real soft spot for blues.
I got hooked by my abyssinian because of her colour too, she looks perfectly as though she is at home in a tree.
very subtle camouflage, so I can hardly see her in the garden. ( invariably she is hanging wildly off the palm tree, which seems like catnip to her...)
As for the warm lap thing, that is sooo lovely and relaxing. But I have to tell you that last night,as I sat in my eccentric portable sauna, zipped in up to my neck, my cat thought this deeply amusing and decided I was a box of mice and was attacking me from all angles.
She is only 20 weeks old, though.
When she sits on my lap, she has a habit of exfoliating my chin for me, with her rough little tongue. Very cute.
Love your cat names, tiger_tim! |

Korats are beautiful - Congrats!
I love all cats (from moggies to the bald but sweet natured sphynx!) but do have a soft spot for the more 'exotic' types (Korats, Burmese Siamese, abysins etc).
I have three Burmese cats (a brown, a red, and a cream) and still miss my old brown boy (RIP Perry) and they are fab characters.
My red boy thinks he's a puppy - he plays fetch, will sit for treats and likes his tummy rubbed and is a complete softy, my cream girl loves toys - teddy bears, toy mice, toy kittens etc etc and has a load of them, my brown girl is convinced she is an Empress one minute but is a kitten the next, playing like a demon and being affectionate -I think it must be a brown Burmese thing, both she and my old brown boy 'owned' any room when they were in!
Sorry - will shut up - OMG I'm turning into an eccentric english 'cat lady' LMAO!! |

Catski - When I was in college years ago I went into the local pet store and they had an abyssinian and I fell in LOVE! I want one so bad but with one cat and a dog already I think it would be too much at this point. I just think they are the most gorgeous cats and look very exotic. I've read that they behave more like dogs than cats since they tend to have a kitten attitude (not lazy adult cat attitude) their entire life and usually love water. How old is yours? Do you have a pic?
Tiger Tim - The Korat is absolutely gorgeous too! I feel in love with Russian Blues when I saw Cats and Dogs and that cute little one was in the street with that sweet little face. These kittens are just as adorable if not even more so. You'll have to post pics when you get your new furbabies! |
