Lisey, you know that's at least 4 lbs worth without a box weight? It will cost a lot to ship I think. |
Thanks. I know that, hehe. It's about $5 more from the regular shipping price. I think it's worth it. MermaidGirl is helping out! |
Awww....MG is a real sweetheart. I agree with Sushi that for me, it doesn't work as well without adding other things to it, but my hair is NOT normal. It's so damaged from Pantene and Jap Straight Perm. It will take maybe a year to get it back in good shape. (Just being conservative in my estimate, but hopefully shorter than that.) Even with WEN, the ends get crispy again on the 2nd day of washing. I might not have washed all of WEN out from the ends. Not sure. My hair is super sensitive now. I think it got so porous from the Jap Straight Perm, and got the buildup from Pantene. Yikes! So anyhow, for the price and ingredients, you can beat TJs, and if you got lots of hair and long as well, then yeah, you're right that it will save you lots of money. I thought the shipping fee would kill you though. |

I am the same way. I have been adding jojoba oil into my Jason jojoba shampoo ( know redundant it seems) to help regulate oil in my scalp and liquid oat beta glucans to calm the itching. |
I add SKB to my Jason sea kelp shampoo. |

Well, I am sitting here with lots of coconut oil cooking in my hair. This is after I washed with the TJs shampoo and conditioner, but before I did that I used some baby shampoo (no SLS) and mixed it with baking soda to get gunk out of my hair. It got most of it out. I did not do a thorough job this time, and part of my hair still felt sticky. grrr So anyway I even added WEN to the mix after I shampooed with the TJs shampoo. I'll know results tomorrow since I intend to sleep with coconut oil in my hair tonight. |

Yeah, and I don't think it's that great without all the extra stuff I mix into it. I have a whole arsenal of crap I add to the shampoo and conditioner which is probably what makes it work well.
When I add jojoba oil and SKB to any shampoo, my hair feels a lot better. |
Yeah I know what you mean.. IMO, Avalon's doesn't moisturize or anything, but cleans my hair really well. The only brand that ever made my hair feel really SOFT and SILKY was Pantene Pro V.. Haha.. But in the long run, it's bad for your hair!! |

I promised to report back to you my results. Well, I failed to wash off all the coconut oil from my hair, so it didn't turn out that great. (The part where the oil remains is really oily and sticky.) My hair is so dang picky! |

Washed my hair again last night. This time no coconut oil treatment (no time). I did add ACV (one capful), 20 drops of Rosemary and 20 of Lavendar EO, and squirted some jojoba mixed with EPO liberally in to 6 oz of TJs Nourish Spa. (I bought a new bottle and saved the old one, so I poured the shampoo from the new bottle in to the old one and started mixing. I don't know if it's really 6 oz or not. It could be just 4 or 5 oz, but I don't think precision matters in this case. I just know it's not half of the bottle which would be 8 oz.)
So this time it was a quickie...just wash and conditioned, nothing else. My hair turned out really well. It's staying soft and healthy looking this morning. No gunky feeling.
I'm sure I'll keep on looking for other shampoo/conditioner as I read more rave reviews, but I'll probably always come back to TJs Nourish Spa. You can't beat the price or the ingredients even if you have to mix in a few more things to it. I don't mind. It's the only thing that works for my hair right now. But I have got to try Paves if I ever come across them. |

I finally got to try these tonight! Thanks Kimberly! Well I've got to say the shampoo & conditioner were more than I ever expected! I did not add anything in them. TJ Nourish spa shampoo doesn't foam as much as Avalon's Organics Lemon Clarifying shampoo, but it's way more gentle than Avalon's!! The foaming is about the same as Burt's Bees Baby Bee Hair & Body wash. And I'm also surprised with TJ Nourish spa conditioner!! The conditioner makes my hair feel so silky comparing to Avalon's! The results, I like TJ's way more because they make my hair more soft and less frizzy! I'm happy with my purchase! |

i know this is a very old thread but i still want to express my gratitude
thanks bkkgirl and avalange!
i went through the same ordeal like avalange...i left my country to permanently move in the US and after a few months i noticed my hair turned dull and it wasn't as soft as before (must be the water, im not sure)...so i was forever looking for something to bring the shine back...
i was using my regular shampoo and just recently discovered trader's joe nourish spa conditioner & nexxus hydra sleek conditioner (i discovered nexxus while i was looking for ph acid conditioner..it contains amino acids and avocado oil) before i read this post ...i switch between these 2 conditioners every other week.... and these actually helped my hair to become smoother...problem is i still can't get the shine i want....
and then i read this thread so i went to the store and bought trader joe's nourish spa shampoo..... then i tried the honey thing and the acv rinse and it worked like magic! i tried both of my conditioners but i noticed that using my nexxus conditioner worked better for my hair...my hair is shinnier when i use the nexxus compared to trader joe's nourish spa conditioner..... please note that i am asian with black straight hair....
again, thanks for the tip!
p.s.
additional tip: rinse hair w/ cold water for 10 seconds then do ur acv rinse...make sure ur acv rinse uses cold water too.. |

thanks for the additional tip - I've been putting the ACV in warm water. But I'll try what you suggest. ALso - glad to know Trader Joes still has the Nourish Spa shampoo and conditioner. I am visiting a friend next month and they have a Trader Joes and plan on going there.
question- Do you do the ACV as a final rinse - meaning you do NOT rinse this out? There seems to be a few different ways I've read this being done. Thanks |

i don't rinse my hair after the acv rinse. if you're worried that your hair would smell like acv don't worry it won't.
i use cold water for my acv rinse because it would just cancel out my 10 sec cold rinse if my acv rinse is warm.
i read somewhere that rinsing hair with cold water seals the cuticle and helps prevent frizz, leaving a smooth, shiny surface. i also noticed that my hair looks shiny during cold weather so i guess cold temp does something to our hair. |

Oh Bira - Please give me anything to look for in Trader Joes. I am open to suggestions.
It will be a one hour deal for us so I don't want to miss something. Last year I got some great food things too. |

Trader Joes, Greek Style Yogurt, Apricot/Mango YUM! (this is a whole meal... high in calories, but also high in protein!) And their Vodka Pasta Sauce, pretty yummy.
And my favorite treat, (and can you believe that NO ONE in my family likes them so they are MINE..MINE....MINE!) Dark Chocolate Covered Pomegranate Seeds!
Gonna check out this shampoo!!! Does anyone buy their supplements here? I was checking them out today...
Sister... what are you doing? Making an annual trek? |

Yes Claudia - A bunch of girlfriends converge in the Washington DC area - stay with our friend in Alexandria, VA and we take our Posse into a Trader Joes and snag anything that we can't find in our own town(s). I absolutely appreciate your recommendations. I will probably buy them ALL.
Anymore from anyone- bring them on. We all love this part of our trip. It's what we do on the way out of town. |

I buy tons of things from Trader Joes!! After seeing all these reviews about the shampoo and conditioner I really tried to like it but it actually made my hair dryer!! I have curly, course, thick hair so sometimes it is a real challenge. Always looking for the perfect product. Right now I am sitting here with a Manuka Honey and coconut oil mask on my hair. We'll see how that does? LD |

I love their pizza dough (herbal and garlic). It's so easy to make a homemade pizza with it. I buy their fat free pizza sauce, reduced fat shredded cheese (either the mexican blend, or soysation), canadian bacon, sliced olives, and voila! I got a very low fat per slice pizza. (I calculated once that it came out to about 4-5 grams of fat per slice depending on what toppings I use.)
And here's a link to Yays and Nays at TJs I found for you for recommendations from other people:

Remember at TJs, if you don't like it, you can take it back. They 100% guarantee everything they sell. No questions asked! (Well, some of them do ask why you don't like it, but most of them don't.) |

Does it make your hair dry right away, or after a while? Sometimes my hair reacts very well to a new shampoo and/or conditioner only to do a complete flip after using it a while. I have to change shampoo and conditioner very often. |

Sister...do you drink champagne? If so, they sell good tasting champagne for about $6 or so. I don't remember the brand. A friend recommends it, but I don't drink champagne. It's her staple! I can check on the name when I stop at TJs next time if you want to know. |

I waded through the Chowhound TJ reviews and have a list (greek yogurt was a frequent fav! and Grade B maple syrup (not grade A). And cheese - very inexpensive and cookies (not a big fan but kids will appreciate it). I'm so excited |
