Many commercial (and DIY) skincare products claim to "brighten" or "revitalize" skin or to make it "glow." Even after using these products, it seems my skin always looks the same - like MY skin, and with no changes! These terms, to me at least, seem a little ambiguous.
What DO they mean? What do they mean to YOU? Please elaborate - a fairly detailed description of what these, and other descriptive yet ambiguous beauty terms we see so often, mean to you would be super as well as skincare (not makeup) products that you've used that deliver on these promises. |

What a whopper of a question Mermaid! I associate "brightening and revitalizing" with cell turnover....when I see these descriptors, I assume (until I look at the ingredients) that I am looking at an active treatment that tries to speed up the rate of cell turnover (resulting in a brighter complexion)....When I see things like "firms the facial contours" or the word "lifts"...my back goes up because I immediately associate them with egg white masks and an uncomfortable tightening of the skin...(it is important to note that I am presently using the PSF DMAE gel and I absolutely LOVE it- you can get it here at EDS)I think one of the most confusing words in the skincare industry is the word "light". I think that people associate this with "oil-
free". With,(IMHO), the increase in serums and quick penetrating preparations on the market, I think that many people assume that these "light" preparations are "mild" which most often is not the case. There are more and more extremely active and potent preparations that are as "light as air" but that are incredibly potent...anyways,I fear that I'm not saying anything that you guys don't already know..furthermore, I'm not even certain that I am accurately responding to Mermaid's question... I'm going to stop typing now because I'm not sure that I'm even making sense...

I always take those terms, brighten, etc, to mean a product for achieving an even complexion, ie getting rid of the sun spots, etc. And, glow, I take just as it says, something to make your skin have the luminous glow (like a lot of the stars have). Just my 2 cents. |

Just wanted to have my say!
I think that "glow" for me means my natural pinkness being brought back into my cheeks, kinda like the healthy flush that babies have. SA, exfoliation or a good clay mask give me this effect.
"Brightening" would be an overall lightening of sunspots or acne marks, rosehip/exfoliation do this for me.
I know that "revitalize" for some may be different but IMO the only two things that do that for me are sleep and excercise. |

I think "brighten" is let our skin become brighter ,"revitalize" is let our skin become fresher, the result is our skin should be healthy! |

I read somewhere that woman with age 30 above will lose the brightness, that is why those three elements are very important. I guess it's really hard to describe the difference of those three in text context. But, just enjoy using the product that has those three elements and be happy... that will really brightened all... |

Hmm...I always think "glow" as a general improvement in skin's complexion. "Brightening" is more specifically targeting sun-damage, spots, and acne scars. "Revitalizing" is basically 'waking' the skin up to have a fresh look. Many masks have this ability. Just IMO. |
