Tonight as I was using my DMAE serum (Candessence 6%) I was thinking it would be nice if the consistency was a bit thicker like my HA Serum (PSF). So I mixed the DMAE and the HA to apply (lovely consistency btw).
Anyhows, I started remembering hearing/reading somewhere that you should not mix DMAE with HA because the HA negates the effect of the DMAE (or something like that). For the life of me I now dont remember who told me or where I read it and a search of EDS has not been fruitful.
Does anyone else know if this is true? (or remember reading or hearing about this anywhere?) Or is my memory playing tricks on me?
Tks for the help! |

I can't imagine where that came from. DMAE & HA have been perfectly compatible for the 12-14 months I've been using them together. For me DMAE alone can be drying. The HA attracts the moisture that my skin needs.

I make my own HA serum and added some DMAE to the serum. As far as amounts are concerned I have no idea what to do. Does anyone know of a site or something where it tells how much to add of something to a base or canvas to make a certain % cream/serum.
For example if I want to make a 10% vit C serum, how much of each ingredients, mainly I'm more concerned about the l'asorbic acid, would I have to add to get that concentration?

Julie, on the DMAE - there's a recommendation on the SAS forum (from an amazingly well-informed member) to start with 1/2 tsp. DMAE to 1 oz. HA serum to start. You could build up from there if you need to.
As far as the L-Ascorbic Acid, I'm sorry I have no idea. I don't really measure. I use about 1/3 cup distilled water, add about a heaping teaspoon or so of L-Ascorbic Acid to it and pat it on as a full body "toner" (from face to toes) just before I get out of the shower.

Hi tiger_tim - I use PSF DMAE, and I recall something Darren of PSF said about HA lowering the pH of DMAE. Since he claims pH is key as far as effectiveness goes, you may want to find out more. I think the remark I'm referring to is in the long DMAE topic. He was actually chatting with Amy (of GOW???) about the Johnson & Johnson DMAE study, etc.
Perhaps a wait time of 15 minutes in between layers of DMAE and HA would be all it takes to make the two compatible and optimally effective. |

Ari, Thank you very much! I should have probably just researched it myself (googled) but this seems so much faster and easier you answering ALL my questions |

If my memories right the HA not being mixed only applies with the amine form of dmae, hope that helps Tiger. |

Wont mixing it lower the percentage? Dont you have to put it as a seperate layer before applying s.t. else? I would think its the same as with AHA or Retin A? |
