Just started on Eluage cream and have broken out after the second application.
I spaced my applications every third night. Thing is I figured this might be less breakout-inducing than Retrinal because it doesn't contain mineral oil like the Retrinal? The breakouts aren't cystic but are in about 6 different places. Nothing else in my routine has changed. Do you think I should continue or stop and wait for my Retrinal 0.025% to arrive? I'm completely new to retinoids. |

Hi FaithTruth - Doesn't Eluage have an HA component? Have you ever used products containing HA, and if so, did they cause breakouts? Did you actually use Retrinal or is your comment about the mineral oil content just something you presumed would trigger acne more?
I use Retrinal with no problem but I'm 54 and not acne-prone. Eluage was formulated as an anti-aging product. A lot of anti-aging products can be too rich for acne-prone skin because mature skin is generally, but not always dryer. I have fairly normal skin but I have to say that some anti-aging products are just too rich for me and have caused breakouts -- and I don't mean the kind of fleeting breakouts that can be experienced when starting a new product. |

Actually I'm just assuming the mineral oil in Retrinal will break me out. I've actually ordered it and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm not too sure about the HA though, I think I've gotten irritated by HA before but not broken out. |

Hi again FaithTruth -
Retrinal:
Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alchol, Cetyl Esters, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ceteareth-20, Glycol Montanate, Cyclomethicone, Ceteareth-33, Sodium Hyaluronate, Acrylates Copolymer, BHT, Butylparaben, Carbomer, Fragrance (Parfum), Phenoxyethanol, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Propylparaben, Red 33, Retinal, Triethanolamine.
Eluage:
Ingredients:
Water,Cetearyl Alcohol,Avene Thermal Spring Water (Avene Aqua),Cetyl Esters Caprylic/Capric,Tri-Glyceride, Ceteareth-20,Glycol Montanate, Cyclomethicone Ceteareth-33,Sodium Hyaluronate Acrylates copolymer,BHT Butylparaben,Carbomer,Fragrance (Parfum),Phenoxyethanol Polymethyl Methacry-late,Propylparaben Red 33 (CI 17200),Retinal Triethanolamine. Glycerate Stearat,Triethylhexanoin, Triglyceride Squalane,Peg-100
I wonder if squalane could be the culprit. While I can use it with no problem (it's in Caudalie Radiance Serum), some forum members have reported breakouts from it. |

Eluage cream has never given me pimples. Id give it a little bit of time as it may not be the cream. Do you normally have a problem with squalene as that breaks some people out? |

Thanks so much for the ingredients comparison! Hmm that's strange I saw another listing for the Retrinal that showed that it does in fact have squalene. I'm not sure if it's the squalene cos I've never really used products with squalene before. but I'll make sure to pay more attention to that ingredient. Sigh anyway I'm going to stop the Eluage. My Retrinal should be shipping by next week. |

Faith Truth
I've been using the Eluage eye concentrate gel every other night for about 3-4 weeks now and have had no trouble. |

I use Retrinal with no problem. Initially after starting it (and restarting it, since I go off a week before facials and waxing) I have some bumps come to the surface, but I figured it was getting rid of stuff that the facial may have "loosened up". I was under the impression that Eluage worked well for acne, although I've never used it. |

Hi Faith,
It's strange to me that Eluage would be causing you to break out. It should be helping to prevent breakouts. It's like saying a moisturizer is drying you out.
Vitamin A normalizes corneocyte (dead skin cell) production and improves degredation of desmosomes (links between the dead skin cells). These properties should help keep plugs from forming and prevent breakouts.
There really is so much at play, outside of our routines, when it comes to breakouts - mostly hormonal. Have you been dealing with a lot of stress, emotional or physical? Is it the week before your time of the month? Etc.
I think most likely your use of Eluage has just coincided with a breakout that would have happened anyway. |

Hi
actually I'm so sensitive that breakout to 99% of products, also this is not my normal type of breakout, so I'm positive that it's the Eluage. |
