Faith is your "effects" from the MSM no matter what time you take it? If so I would drop your dose by half, increas your water intake and see how that does.

If its only in PM, move that dose up to earlier in the day if possible. Increase water intake.

Iím not saying that msm is bad; I just described how my body reacted to the powder. Some people donít have problems with sleeping, while others are more sensitive. We should just not ignore the side effects that might occur. I will go back to msm soon but I will be more careful about when to take it. The manufacturer of my msm recommends to not taking msm at night or before bed time, it will increase the energy level. I noticed an immediate effect when I stopped msm. This is my story I hope it helps.

I understand but I was not communicating clearly. I was thinking maybe you can split your dosages to 2 g in the morning and 2 g in the evening with 12 hrs in between b/c according to Tangal our body can only process 2 g of MSM every 12 hrs, so if you take 5 g of it at 5 pm, a lot got wasted.

Maybe Tangal wants to take on this one, too. :P

is there any difference taking MSM pills and the powder? Is one better then the other or do they both have the same effect?

Tangal is our in-house expert on vitamins, and she said that the powder form is better. But I didn't buy the powder because I didn't think I could handle the taste, so I bought the NSI MSM which only has MSM in it, and no other fillers inside a capsule. It's probably as close to the powder form as you can get, and you don't have to worry about the taste.

Hi Tangal, thank you so much for the information. It really takes me some time to read it. Embarassed

I've bought Coenzyme Q10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid with my last order but haven't started on them. Should I take them together with Ester C? Do they enhance each other or do I just need one as antioxidant? Confused

I'm also taking Evening Primrose Oil 500mg, HA+Collagen, NSI Mega EFA (Is this one a good source of omega-3 compared to other NSI EFA products?) and MSM 1000mg daily.

I usually take all the supplements in one take after lunch. Or should I take them in different times to enhance absorption?

Recently started taking 1000mg msm with 500mg ester c 2x a day about 12-13 hours apart and would also like to know if I can take other vitamins and supplements (coq10, EFAs etc) at the same time? I'm lousy at swallowing (no naughty thoughts pls Razz) and would hate the idea of taking all my supps at different times of the day. Also I'm taking msm pills as I've difficulty having access to the crystals/powders and wonder if it will make a huge (negative/bad) difference? Something "made from quality OptiMsm" whatever that means. Wonder when I can start upping my dosage? I only started this a week ago. Thanks!

CK-
I did not expect everyone to read through the whole thing at once, rather use it as a general rough reference only.

Co Q10 and ALA are both beneficial in different ways. I personally take both. You can take then with your Ester C. I personally am not in the group that feels Ester C is the most beneficial form of C.
Nothing wrong with it, if you prefer it, but I donít necessarily feel it is ďbetterĒ or worth the commonly very high cost. Some good studies are out there showing both standard Ascorbic Vit C and Ester C are equally beneficial. Smile I tend to agree.

NSI in general are fine products. Just check that the ďdoseĒ levels are in the ranges you want. They are a good product line overall.

You will probably find your supplements do better over all if you divide them in two doses Ė one in AM one in PM.
You will tend to find you absorb them better. (at least things in higher amounts, like MSM)
But if you just find you canít do that, then once a day all at once is better then nothing.

You just may lose some of the useable product potion. Many nutrients can only be absorbed in specific amounts at one time by body tissues, so anything over that amount is urinated out. But if you take the max dose at one time, and another dose 12 hours roughly later, you absorb both amounts. So it depends on the dose you are taking of each nutrient, and how your body absorbs it. The links I posted earlier, list each nutrient individually, so you can look at each, and see if it does better in staggered doses, vs one.

For example if you eat 6 oranges at one sitting, you get less usable Vit C, then if you eat three oranges in the AM and 3 oranges in the PM. Smile

Fenn-

You can take you other supplements at the sometime, Its not an issue normally.

Pills are an option. Concerns are amount of fillers, possible concerns with heavy metals residue. You just need to weigh the issues in your personal situation. Some people react negatively to the added fillers which can be as much as 30 percent of a pill. Plus the fact you may have less useable product, depending on how the manufacturer weighs the product. (with or without fillers figured in)

You can buy pure powder form Capsules, which are basically just the same powder put in a capsule, no extra fillers. Those are fine, if that brand states no fillers are added, they are reputable and believable, AND it is USA (or Canada) certified that it is Heavy Metal Free, as certified by a third party independent source.

NSI, products do this. They use OptiMSM
MSM is available form many sources,.
And many MSM sources are from lower cost foreign Asian labs, which can contain heavy metal residues, which is not great.
Because they are not tested by third party USA or Canadian sources, you have fewer guaranties of metal free products.

Best recommendations are from USA sources, or those with strict third party testing, which have stronger quality control. Of course if you are in another country this is not possible, and I am not familiar with all international sources, since I am USA based.

Look for labels with the following logos which are good options. These are both tested by third part independent USA firms to confirm purity and lack of metal residues.

Lignisul or OptiMSM should appear on your label. If this is on there you are assured of purity.

Bio-alternatives use another brand, but also has USA based independent third party testing.

Canít comment on other brands, if they donít use OptiMSM or Lingisil. Not saying they are ďbadĒ Ė I just donít know. Some certainly are. Others are probably okay. I just donít know whom.

Thanks Tangal. Very Happy So I'll divide them into two doses. I actually don't expect Ester C will perform better than Ascorbic and I just chose it out of worry that standard C may be harsh on my stomach. Wink

CK, you are correct. Wink

If your single MSM is over 1500 - 2000, then add extra after that amount in a second dose.

Monica, I saw a link yesterday on another messageboard, about a guy who lost 8 lbs when first staring MSM. (no diet changes) Though he did increase his water consumption.

tangal, i went to msm-msn and got lots of information. thank you. this weekend, i'll join the forum to read up more.

Is it ok to take the lignisul as the DMSO is from china?

"Lignisulģ MSM is manufactured for Fine Nutraceuticals, Inc. (FNI) by Sloss Industries, a third-party facility in Alabama, from DMSO obtained from another facility in China."

yes its fine, because it uses USA based third party independant agencys to confirm purity and quality.

Not all Asia sources are bad, but without valid independant inspections, you have no confirmation of purity.

Hi Tangal,
I was reading your post about how you learned so much about skincare products and vitamins. I'm glad you are helping to educate us. I am interested in vitamins, and don't know what I am doing like you. So it's nice to hear it from someone who knows! Thanks again for your contribution.

Tangal since you are the resident expert on MSM, could you tell me if you have heard of this kind of side effect?

I recently started a phamaceutical grade MSM powder and have not experienced any uncomfortable side effects but have noticed that my silver jewellry is all of a sudden turning my skin black where it touches(under rings and where it touches my ears around earrings.) I have worn these items for many months with no colour change before the MSM. The black does not wash off so i'm wondering if this is connected to the MSM in my system....

do you have any opinion?
