My younger sister just turned 18 and she is sun obsessed. I think her skin looks older than it should by a lot She is pretty too. I on the other hand have been so pale so long always get mistaken for the younger sister and I'm almost 25 lol. She thought it was funny when she was 13 and I was 19 but she isn't finding it as humorous anymore. |

I am Swedish and most women here love to get dark either by going on a vacation/holiday elsewhere or by laying under tanning beds for long periods of time. Guess what? It shows. This is exactly the problem in Germany too! My whole family is very fair but esp. my cousin has this obsession with tan..he goes on vacation to Italy to get a tan and then when he comes home he supplements with the tanning beds. Now he looks like a deliciously basted peking duck. Yes it's quite a craze in Germany. Little german peking ducks running around here and there and everywhere.
But I must admit I was impressionable as teenager, and I did it too when I was 15, but thank the Lord I came to my senses. I have very fair skin (Alima W/0) is my absolute perfect match and I live in Australia and right now it is like sooo hot and if I go out in the Sun it's like as if my skin is literally on fire - The sun has vaporizing qualities in Australia |

Hi, I totally agree. I find I look much better pale than with any colour (even a fake tan). I have stayed out of the sun for years, I find my skin looks so much better than friends of mine that went to tanning salons, ect. |

Masha, we must be almost the exact same color--- I'm a mix of Alima C-0 and W-0. I absolutely agree with everything everyone here has said. First of all, I know that society prizes having a tan, and that it is thought to look "healthy," but I for one have always been happy with my pale skin, and I think it goes very nicely with my light blue eyes and my dark hair. However, I do have to say that I think pale people are discriminated against unfairly, at least here in the US. I can't tell you how many people (esp. when I was younger) would look at me and say "Why are you so pale??? You need a tan!" I mean, I would never tell anyone who is naturally tan that their skin is too dark. Not to mention the whole safety issue. My mom has had so many cancers and pre-cancers removed, so that just makes me all the more content to stay out of the sun and enjoy my pale skin. |

I totally agree, you should be happy with what you got. I’ve always been trying to even my skin tone, I’m light olive, with some imperfections, my belly and back are darker than the rest of my body, I tried some products to even out my skin color. I started with taking beta carotene in order to get darker, but instead these areas became darker, and the rest of my body stayed light. I tried lotions with liquorice and kojic acid and the same problem here, nothing helped. Finally I decided to ignore it. What’s the problem if my back and belly looks like I’ve had a tan and the rest of my body is pale? I don’t care anymore. The most important thing is that my health is ok. The funny thing is that I’m considered to be the black duck in the family and I like it .
I think we are always worried about what other people think about us, specially the opposite sex, and specially women always worry about what their men and BFs thinks about them, we just forget that most men have the same imperfections.
Just live and enjoy life, we are really blessed for living a life like this while many people are suffering from hunger and diseases. |

add me to the pale and proud crowd!
my mother has dark olive skin and tans easily, never knowing the word sunscreen which means in my formative years i was lobster red. when i finally starting wearing sunscreen, it wasn't high enough.... now that sunscreen has become a religion with me, even she admits my skin has never looked better. still have damage to reverse, but i couldn't be happier with my pale skin. (and i never could go with the fake tan look -- they turn me into a tangerine ) |

Hi guys! I am sooooo happy that so many of you feel the same way! Whenever I say anything to that effect to anyone else, I get my head ripped off and told how disgustingly pale I am! I honestly was expecting at least one or two negative replies, but I guess since I am on a forum that promotes healthy skin, I should have known better!
Oh, and if he has a skin condition, my sincere apologies to Michael Jackson....... |

Maybe us pale ladies should form a club and support group! LOL
And I know what you mean about the pale legs. That's one thing I'm not so crazy about, my pastey white legs. LOL I do enjoy getting some colour in them in the summer. They're even white than my face! Sheesh! If our bodies could just be one colour all the way through that would be great. Is that too much to ask? LOL |

I think that if I would have blue eyes I would like my pale skin better. Because with my natural almost black hair and my dark eyes...well I just look really pale. I Just stop tanning recently. I still go once every two , tree weeks, because I already pay for those at the tanning salon. I stop because I realize that everytime I was going to get a fake tan, the next day my skin was oily like crazy! Also my friend ,she a couple of years younger than me but she tan so much that she look way older than me. Big wrinkles aroud her eye (tanning bed without sunglasse) And her skin as no more natural glow its just really mate and ...well...brown! |

I've always worked night-shift and after my teens where I tried to tan like everyone else I decided that, well, after my dermatologist begged me to stop going to tanning beds, to embrace my inner creature of the night. I still have minor damage from the years I did tan but I stopped before I could really hurt myself. |

The big reward and a major motivator for me is seeing friends my age who haven't been the SS fanatics that I've been -- they look a lot older than me. I think guapagirl expressed it so well in her own inimitable way on the Taning [sic]???????? thread. She said:
"I'm guessing you are pretty young still. Anyone here over 30 who has been a regular sun worshiper will tell you that it's just not worth it if you want to maintain young looking skin. My mum has been in the sun all her life. She loves it and she doesn't care that her skin looks like a rhino's scrotum. I don't want to look like that at her age so I minimise sun exposure especially in summer" |

You know, the other day I was at the casino, I got carded as I entered the gaming area. Then, as I was sitting down to play Black Jack, the waitress came over and I asked for a captain and coke. She actually carded me again. I was thinking "why would I be in here if I was under 21?" Of course I wasn't offended, and I happily thanked her for carding me. She was really surprised that I was 27, and gushed how I looked younger than her 19 y/o daughter!
At work, I get questions all the time about what I do to get my skin to look so young, and I just say: stay out of the sun! |
