How much does the Braun Silk-Epil 5680 cost? Does it come with a range of different heads?
Has anyone had laser hair removal before?
Is the pain from using a braun worst then laser hair removal?
PIty you cant trial epilator. |
I'm currently having laser hair removal treatment and formerly used an epilator.
I found that both caused a little discomfort - which I'd liken to being pinged with an elastic band. Personally, the laser felt no worse than the epilator. But the best thing about the laser is that it should, hopefully, be a much more permanent solution. |

Funny (True) epilator story. My neighbor bought one ages ago when they first came out. She tried it on one leg. Too painful not to cuss, she said. She waited until her husband took their daughter to a major league baseball game and she was alone. She thought she'd have a glass of red wine to calm herself. Then, two glasses. When her husband got home from the game he tucked their daughter into bed and came looking for her (since she wasn't in their bed). He found her on the floor of the bathroom, leaning against the tub. The bottle of wine was empty. The epilator was still humming. The only hair left was the hair on her head! |

Hi Majorb,
I'm considering a laser hair removal treatment b/c I'm tired of using the epilady shaver. How many times do you have to go back for the treatment? Does it cause any scabbing? How much does it cost per session?
Thank you.

If you waxed many times on your legs, etc, I don't think it would be that painful. Epilating is less painful, IMO! |

I use my Braun Silk Epil on my arms -- I really like it (I have hairy arms), but because I don't care if my arms are completely hairless, I only have to epilate about once every 2 months or so. I really like that the hair comes back in quite fine, so even though it is growing out, it still looks natural and not stubbly like how shaved growth comes back.
However, I can't really epilate my bikini line, legs and underarms because I get too many ingrowns.
I'm going on monday for laser on my bikini line for the first time and I will let you all know how it turns out. |

I am still loving my cheapie braun I got off drugstore.com -- I do legs, arms, underarms, and a fairly *ahem* involved bikini (semi brazilian) -- now that I've done it a couple of times I don't even need my no-scream-cream anymore. I can't believe I blew so much money on waxing over the years. this is the best. |

Me too, waffle! I received my no scream cream last week to epilate my bikini area. It did hurt a lot, but I guess it helped a lot also. I tried epilating my bikini area again on Saturday without the no scream cream, and it hurt like hell! |

I have been using epilady since it first came on the market over a decade ago (I still have the original version as a memento!). I have to say I can't remember the exact year it came out but I would say it was over 13 or 14 years ago. And I now am up to the third version!I must admit it was pretty torturous the first couple of times, but my legs have not seen a razor since. I can easily go almost 3 weeks between treatments. My hair is very sparse and soft now, and there is no stuble. As far as the more sensitive areas, I have not tried the underarm area, but I began doing the bikini line area about 2 years ago. It is a killer but does get better with time. |

Hello, in my continuing search to buy an Epilator in Thailand, I've found an Emjoi Gold Caress rechargeable.
Has anyone used this or seen a review? I'd really appreciate your advice on this one. Thanks! |

I use the Silk Epil, but I've heard a lot of good things about the Emjoi Gently Gold Caress - I'd go for it if I were you - you could check google groups (alt.fashion had a lot of reviews for the Emjoi) or eopinions for reviews. |

Sorry, I've only just seen your question.
The number of sessions required varies with each individual. I imagine it depends on how strong your hair roots are, how fast your hair grows, the cycle of growth, colour of skin and hair, etc. Also, the type of laser might influence the time taken to achieve the results you're hoping for. At the salon I attend you can buy treatments in packs of 6, so possibly that's around average.
I haven't experienced any scabbing whatsoever as it doesn't draw blood. The skin on my legs does get a little red and slightly swollen for a day or so. It feels like minor sunburn, but is fine if you slather on some pure aloe vera gel twice a day or so.
Session costs vary, depending on salon, type of laser and whether you buy treatments in a package (can work out cheaper, but check first to see if you get a part refund in the case that you don't require the full package to attain your desired results). I think my package cost around £725 for 6 lower leg sessions.
Hope that helps. |

I've been using an epilator for years, although mine doesn't have extra heads. I much prefer it than shaving, and I can do my legs and underarms without any problem, or pain! Though i've just started to try and do my bikini line and it's torture, I got some bleeding too from ripping the hairs out It's definitely a must though to trim hairs first and make sure that they're not too long before you start. It's much less painful this way. |

I just saw this on an informercial. Has anyone tried this device? Sounds like it functions as if you tweezed all of your hair from the root. I wonder how painful this is? The thing that I like is that it won't cause the hair to grow back as stubble.

That's a mini epilator.. They sell those at Bed Bath & Beyond. I got the full size one and also a mini (emjoi) one for facial. |

Thanks for the rec Lisey. The reviews for this & the optima are great. I just ordered both, for face & legs. |

Leidon! You ordered both mini ones? I would recommend a larger one for legs and bigger areas as the mini (emjoi) one uses batteries, so I would be worried about overusing it. |

I've been doing a brazilian with my braun silk-epil, and it is totally doable imo. But I waxed for several years before, so the hair follicles don't have much strength to argue with me at this point. Just make sure to trim very well and hold the skin taut. I do it about once a week for 30 seconds and that maintains it.
also I highly recommend the little emjoi if you're not sure you can handle epilation -- only $15, and is enough for everything except legs. |

Waffle I got the mini Emjoi for my face.. it's quite good for the underarms also.
I couldn't do a full brazillian. The bottom hurts way too much, but top, that I could handle. Thanks for your advice. |

have you been able to use the emjoi for the face? I'm scared I'm going to break out...it hurts! Way more than doing the brazilian. I do love it for the underarms though! |
