Wow! Never knew that. But it seems it's not more concentrated - some insects are just very sensitive to it.
Fromwww.commonsensecare.com:
Quote: |
The growing accumulation of experience demonstrates that neem products work by intervening at several stages of an insect's life. The ingredients from this tree approximate the shape and structure of hormones vital to the lives of insects (not to mention some other invertebrates and even some microbes). The bodies of these insects absorb the neem compounds as if they were the real hormones, but this only blocks their endocrine systems. The resulting deep-seated behavioral and physiological aberrations leave the insects so confused in brain and body that they cannot reproduce and their populations plummet. |

omigod, I was laughing so hard, Mabsy, when I read about " behavioral and physiological aberrations"...then imagining what other's were thinking when they were reading it....This board is so funny. I am going to write a script based on this board and its characters. Scene One: Mabsy walks in with a bottle of Neem Oil and begins applying to her face....enter stage left - LoopyLori and GuapaGirl...enter stage right - Betterat40. BA40 says" Oh, that's where my Neem Oil went. I was getting ready to declare the mother of all wars on the mealybugs this morning..."
ha, ha, ha.....Happy 4th of JUly everyone. And to you others - Happy American Rebellion Day! |

I was sure one of you would pick up on that! Love the script! I'm sure in Act II I go all psycho and squirm on the floor like a bug. Sorta like on one of those hyposis shows
I'm getting the Neem oil with my next order though - and it ain't for the bugs! |

Skin profusion, Hi So you can take neem as a supplement as well? and it is good for spots? (still on lookout for darling guapa junior! plus I have my st helens on one side of my chin and vesuvius on the other!)
Rose I get my EPO from superdrug, highstore pharmacy chain in the uk. I think that cheaper own brands are OK with regard to this kind of thing, though I'm not a manic supplement taker as I always forget to take them...which means that maybe the gingko biloba isn't working...
Mabsy...I think it's time for a fave packaging thread, don't you? |

You should take some "Essential Fatty Acids" (EFA) along with Fish Oil capsules for a good source of DHA & EPA. Your EFAs should contain Flax seed oil, Evening Primrose Oil, and Borage to complete your intake of Omega 3-6-9. Also, take plenty of antioxidants like pycnogenol (from maritime pine bark and grape seed oil/extract) and fruits like plums, grapes, prunes, raisins, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, wolfberries, all berries. Clove oil is a very high in antioxidants and you can get them in capsules. You may want to take a look at Ambrotose AO or AntiOxidant Specialist which contains a combination of powerful antioxidants.

Also take Vitamin C (not the Ester-C) taken from Rose Hips, Acerola cherries, Amla and Camu-Camu berries, they are the most potent.

e thats a lot of vitamins. I am bad at swallowing the pills and also remembering them. Taking 4-5+ pills for skin/hair care sounds a lot. If you guys have to suggest 1-2 a day/night. What would that be?
I was thinking of buying EPO (any specfic brand) i am in USA. What else? |

I drink a shake everyday with pure soy: www.revivalsoy.com. I am not a soy person (tofu, soy milk) but love the shake. Bars are yum but I would eat them like candy.
I first starting drinking this when I was going through the change. I was getting about 20 HOT FLASHES a night. I was moody and felt aweful. My friend was using this product and I decided to try it. Within one week I never got another hot flash.
It also helped my hair, nails and skin.
Just looked on their website and they recommend it for PMS.
Md's recommend it for their patients. Worth taking a look at the site. |

now this thread has popped up again, has anyone in the uk seen that horizon programme on bbc2 last night? Scarey!!!! Bottom line is that exceeding the RDA for vitaminA can cause liver damage and early onset of osteoporosis, so if you take a supplement with Vit A and you have a half reasonable diet you could actually be doing harm I'm OK cos I just eat crap, but I know that the more health concious of you out there may like to know this |

well evening primrose oil contains a phytochemical twin of natural estrogen. so you may just be boosting your bodies supply of estrogen, which could result in more fat being deposited in umm your chest lol |

OK, now my bias is going to show big time! I take EVERY media report on supplements with a grain of salt because most of the time they haven't a clue what they're talking about. I don't mean the researchers, I mean the media that run with the story, forget important details and create a wrong impression. Also, everytime the FDA (in U.S.) wants to give supplements a bad name, they leak something misleading to the media.
Now that I've got that off my chest (and there's room for a lot there), I'll try to talk a little bit more logically. The first thing you have to know (and you won't know it from a media report) is whether the vitamin studied was a synthetic form or a whole food vitamin. ONLY the synthetic forms can result in this kind of toxicity. And, it's not really the vitamin that your liver is reacting to, it's the level of synthetic chemical. Really, it's best to take a blended multi, because most have been put together by knowledgeable researchers who know what amount of various things to put together for the best benefit. MOST vitamin A that you find will be in the form of beta carotene and, THERE HAVE BEEN NO DOCUMENTED CASES OF TOXICITY WITH BETA CAROTENE. The label will tell you right beside the Vitamin A if it's in the form of beta carotene.
Guapagirl, thanks for your consideration in sharing this info because you care about people. I'm not directing my rant at you. In fact, I'm rolling in the floor about your comment that you're safe because you eat crap. Unfortunately, the news media is not giving the straight story.... or at least not enough of the details to give us the actual facts.
Sometimes facts about the report are not made clear to the newsmedia and sometimes because they don't know enough about vitamins to ask the important questions, they give a wrong impression.
Steppping down off my soapbox now.

Thanks eSquire for that informative link. Was wondering though is there a specific brand or even a generic name that is really good and has been tried and tested by any of the members here? I can go to any GNC stores but wouldn't want to just say, buy it from the counter. Hope one can suggest a brand or even a generic name is appreciated. thanks |

As far as supplements for skin are concerned, i have done quite some research and spoken to my derm about it too. I have been taking SAGE ORGANIC's Healthy Womans Pack, which contains a months supply of vitamins and minerals, both. Believe me, it contains all that a pill should constitute. From herbs to antioxidants to minerals and EPO!! After 2 months, my skin glows, my hair and nails have never been so beatiful and strong!! Worth a try beauties!! Also, since i happen to be a veggie, and lack the essential amino acids, im planning to go on Murads Collagen Builder supplement Hope it works |
