I know the ingredients I want in my base cream but I am unsure as to how to come up with the amounts of each product to use. Does anyone have any suggestions or websites that could help with this? I want to use shea butter, pomegranate oil, olive oil or jojoba, beta glucans, manuka honey, SOD, and aloe vera. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

www.theherbarie.com,www.ingredientstodiefor.com and www.thepersonalformulator.com each have a formulary.

You could also go on www.gardenofwisdom.com, join the forum and ask too...

You will need some kind of thickener or emulsifier and probably a preservative but I'm hopeless with that kind of thing...I always just mix my serums up fresh right before I use them.

I've made my own body mousses and body souffles from scratch. Also done the whole whipped body butter thing. And, for the most part I like my own stuff much better than anything I can buy. But, in a pinch, when I've run out of something and I need a good base lotion or cream, I've found that both CeraVe lotion and cream make absolutely fabulous bases for actives. You can pick them up in just about any drugstore or online....

Thanks Katee. I ordered the body butter kit from lotioncrafters to try. I got a sample of their body butter with another order, and it is fabulous feeling so I thought I would try to make that, and I have been waiting for them to have the kit for this so I did not have to order huge quantities of anything that I may never use again!

I generally use 1/4 shea butter/mango butter or honeycomb and mix with 1/4 oil and 1/2 flower water as base cream. I increase the oil if I want a heavier cream.

I melt the butter or honeycomb in a bain marie and whisk in the oil. Then I add (while still whisking) drop by drop of the liquid component. Then I add in any fruit extract or essential oils. Hope this helps.

rileygirl,

Please keep us updated on how your cream turns out. I am not brave enough to make my own base as I am terrible with percentages and measuring (i need a scale too). I am also a bit lazy, so I just order ready made base creams.

Will do Kristen. I have not made mine yet, as mail is snail paced right now and have not received all my ingredients!
