I'm an Englsih major.
Regimen is the only word you should use, of the three, to describe your skincare routine! Anything else, well, would be wrong! |

OMG this is a HUGE HUGE HUGE pet peeve of mine I am constantly amazed by the number of so-called *professionals* who use "regime" to describe their skin/excercise routines, etc. Since when did they join the army? |
I thought everyone knew the proper usage but when I see improper usage, it drives me UP A WALL! Like tsjmom I find this to be a MASSIVE pet peeve for me! |

my english is horrendous. may i ask why regime is wrong since the no.4 definition says "a regulated system"? i think of our skincare ritual as a regulated system. both are nouns though.
this is confusing, please do help me differentiate the two. |

Ah Heather - most of our so's would probably ^5 your bf for that. Mine usually groans out something like, "are you coming to bed when you finish doing stuff to yourself." Shaking my head... He makes it sound like I'm in there masturbating !!! |
Hi Katee!
If BF ever explores my DIY mystery bottles and discovers the DMAE serum, I'm sure he'll think it's lube and accuse me of the same thing! |

I tutored writing a couple years, and if a student were to ask me this question I would tell them that 'regimen' would be the most appropriate word (when referring to anything you do to better yourself, be it skincare, exercise, etc) as 'regime' has a rather negative connotation. The key to the definition of regimen is the "to attain a result," which is what we're trying to do when we take up a course of exercise, etc.
When I hear 'regime' I think of Saddam Hussein. I do not wish to associate him with my skincare... |
