I need your help and opinions pretty please.
I need to decide on a cookware set and have always "admired" (as much as one can admire cookware) those sets with detachable handles and additional plastic lids that make it turn into storage. The idea is that the pots & pans can also be used to bake in (with handle detached), can be used to store stuff in the fridge (i.e. cook, detach handle, pop on plastic lid, store in the fridge), and they all neatly stack into each other for storage. What I'm talking about is, for example, http://www.convertiblecookware.com/
I know that this type of cookware is pretty popular in Europe but I can't really find many here at all. I've found a set by Fagor (which is not non-stick unfortunately) and the KitchenStar (though they don't sell complete sets here of that). I am aware of the existence of Tefal Ingenio but I don't think it's sold outside of Europe.
So, a few questions.
1. Do you have one of these and if so is it as convenient as it seems?
2. Have you seen entire sets of these anywhere in the shops either in the USA or Australia?
3. Are you aware of any other brands that make them?

When I read your post, I wasn't sure what this cookware was. I looked at your link, and it sounds pretty intesting. I use epinions whenever I am in the market for something for my house...washer, dryer, etc. They do have some info on your cookware, and the reviewers seem to like it. I have attached the link below. Good luck!

Thank you very much Chrissie. I love Epinions when I'm buying appliances etc but somehow didn't think to check there this time.
Unfortunately, the Ingenio seems to be the one range that I cannot get here as it wasn't released to our market. It sure does sound good though! I hope other brands might be comparable.... |

Hi, Mabsy. I've had a set of this non-stick cookware for about three years now (I'm in Canada). It's quite a space saver because, as you know, the handles are detachable and the pieces stack inside one another like a Russian doll. The biggest pot is my favourite for making soup and jam, cooking pot roasts, rice, pasta and anything that benefits from not being scorched. (Let's see -- that would be just about everything, wouldn't it? ) The non-stick coating does hold up fairly well if you use wooden or plastic utensils; it's only recently that I had to toss the large frying pan because everything stuck to the cooking surface.
There are a few disadantages, though. The coloured outer coating of each piece will deteriorate markedly and become chalky/powdery if you put this cookware in the dishwasher. Also, if you happen to drop a piece, it will dent or distort because of the thinner side walls and pot covers.
That said, this is definitely very useful cookware and I'd recommend it. Perhaps Tefal (T-fal?) has improved the durability of the outer coating by this time, 'cause I'd love to add a few new pieces. |

Thank you pinky and thanks for mentioning the dishwasher as well. I think this disqualifies Tefal for me because it is coloured and because I'm spoilt and don't hand wash dishes Fagor is stainless steel and even though the denting probably still applies and it's not non-stick, it might be a better option for me... |

This looks interesting.. I'm always on the look for cookwares/cooking tools.. The ones that I bought from informercials always turn out to be disappointing.. |
