Like many others, I learned "Für Elise" by heart as a kid. I'd truly like to be able to play the piano again. |

I can play the recorder...Soprano and Alto (or at least I have been able to play the Alto). Started at age 9 and stopped takeing lessons at 17 and then continued playing in an ensemble until I was about 20. Smaller church concerts and the like.
I play maybe twice a year now, when no one is watching. It can be very therapeutic and relaxeing...also a bit frustrating when it doesn't sound the way it should |

I started with the saxophone in grade school (oh so many decades ago!), and stayed with it. Played alto, tenor, and baritone sax all through school till senior year when I couldn't stand being in the marching band (not a cool thing to do at the time!). Picked up electric guitar at age 15 and never stopped. Now that "tablature" can be found on the internet, it's possible to pick up and play virtually any kind of heavy metal song that I like! (Love the internet for reasons just like this).
On any given weekend night, I'll play just to relax....

I play piano and acoustic guitar! Love them both - but most comfortable singing behind a mike!

If threatened with a gun to my head, I can bang out a few ditties on the piano. My mother was a musician (pianist) so we took lessons when we were children. But neither me nor my siblings inherited mom's gift -- it skipped a generation and I have a prodigious niece.
In adulthood, I tried my hand at classical guitar. It's much more difficult than piano and I gave up taking lessons when I realized I simply didn't have the knack.
I think that besides the dedication that becoming proficient requires, there's someting akin to natural athletic ability that makes for fine musicianship. Watching my mother play all those years, I was continually amazed at her coordination and control, which came to her so easily. |

I know exactly what you mean! There is an inate ability in those that play really well. My son has that ability (it would be nice if he took it more seriously, but he plays for the enjoyment). I love to listen to him play because when he does, it really is music. |

I also was trained in the piano as a kid and so were both of my kids. My daughter completed her conservatory studies and teaches piano while she completes her university degree in conducting and composition. I have recently returned to my piano studies after a long time away and guess who is my teacher?! |

I was also trained in classical piano since I was a little kid! Looks like there are a bunch of us I still play frequently as a hobby.
I started taking voice lessons at age 13, have been singing on-and-off since then: got my bachelor's in Classical Voice, decided against grad school in opera and moved to New York for comedy & acting instead, but recently began work as a singer-actor in an Off-Broadway show!
Ironically, the part is a "character", and this character happens to be known for her "harsh, sandpaper-y, hacksaw voice" Could only pull it off with years and years of musical training, though! |

I used to play saxophone in school as a child but then switched to percussion after I got asthma. I can say that the drums were much more fun anyway. Also took up violin as an adult but didn't really keep up with the lessons so the instrument just sits there. I have promised myself that I will once again take up lessons once money and time permit. I love music and would really love to play more instruments, especially piano. |

I can play the violin, and I can sing and dance on tables and around poles - ah it's a living, and it's much nicer than being a Tijuana rent boy, well kinda. |
