Wow. I am not feeling the love. So I came here to whine.
I have been a long-time poster on another forum, and they happen to sell different brands of products through a website linked to the forum. Well, I asked about another product (not sold on the website) in comparison to a product sold on the website. The site owner said via forum post (rather than a PM) that we don't discuss products not carried on her webpage because she can't officiate in product wars. Wow. All I did was ask an innocent question, so that I could learn something. Does asking a question take anything away from her precious products? Sheeeesh. So I took my flogging and now I don't want to really hang out there for a while. This little occurrence makes me want to find other sources to buy my products from.
Done whining now. Thanks for reading. |

Actually I don't think that you are whining at all. I think you make a very valid point. If this owner/operator of that website does not want you to question their products then their credibility should be called into question. This is one of the aspects about this site that I really love. Even if a product is not sold through this website people here are freely able to post messages about a product and give reviews no matter what.
I would have to seriously question a beauty website that censors what the readers post (unless it is vulgar language) because it seems to me the whole point of a beauty message board is to inform and tip and not to sell their own products. If they only want to sell their products, then perhaps they shouldn't have a message board and instead have a "testimonial" section where they can monitor and doctor the entries. |

Thanks, Anna. Now I don't feel like I'm totally crazy. I guess the EDS "freedom to ask questions about any products" thing has me spoiled. |

I agree with Anna. Whenever I come across a forum that only allows discussions of their own products, I know it's not the place for me. A "fan forum" is not created to educate; it's created to praise one product line or company. |

It really doesnt make sense to have a forum if all they seem to be interested in is validating their own product. A testimonial page seems the more logical thing. And quite honestly it's not worth your time. Stick to the EDS forum where anything is up for discussion! |

I totally agree with Anna. They should have a testimonial page instead of a board. *tsk tsk* |

I agree with all of you. A forum's intention should not be to promote products that a site is selling unless forum members have been warned about this beforehand. A forum should educate and that's why I really love it at here at EDS. There are so many people here with knowledge about different areas and we are all open to sharing this with others without worrying about a "flogging". LOL Yay for EDS having an open mind and heart! |

EDS deserves a lot of respect for allowing free discussion of any product that they carry and those they don't. |

i didn't notice this until you pointed it out marci65. Most skincare forums supported by companies tend to restrict discussions to only their product.
how lucky we are to have EDS. EDS is like a general forum for skincare (think makeupalley)where we can ask any questions under the sky! |

.. adding another dimension to the whole discussion of products not sold...
EDS actually takes NOTE of lines that develop a fan following amongst board participants and there are MANY lines that they have started to carry following the demand from board participants - Janson Beckett, Pure Skin Formulations, Remergent and La Roche-Posay, just to name a few!
Not only does this make them stand out in the beauty forum world, but it makes damned good business sense. Find out what the people want and give it to them. |

I don't blame you at all for not wanting to hang out there - free speech is what an open forum is all about! And I agree, it's great that EDS have stocked so many fab products that have been discussed on here - Magda has an excellent head for business!! |

Amen! Many thanks to Magda for not only offering so many great products, but giving us the freedom to openly discuss them...and any others that aren't sold on EDS!

I love EDS forums. Everyone is genuine and helpful. I am afraid to go to another forum just because I was afraid it would take me away from EDS. haha However now that I am hearing things about other forums, I am glad I didn't waste my time going there. Thanks for the heads-up. |

He he he - I love your alliteration in "fan forum". Yes, I'm afraid there are forums where gushing posts grow like mushrooms in the dark and it becomes a chore to filter through the posts for educational content. |
