Hi all!
I currently take one 500mg tablet of slow-release Vitamin C a day, but would like to up this to 1000mg a day.
Can anyone advise me what the best type of Vitamin C to take is and how I should control the dosage?
I can't decide whether I should just take standard Vitamin C, slo-release Vitamin C or esterified Vitamin C.
How much should I take in one go and how often.
I know the easy way is probably just to take two of the slow-realease Vit C tablets but I was wondering whether they are really as effective as standard Vit C (L-ascorbic acid) how effective they are.
TIA,
micawber. |

I'm looking forward to reading the replies to this post! I can tell you what I take but I don't actually know if it's the best type/way to take. I'm taking 1000mg of a time release vit C with bioflavonoids. I try to take it regularly but, really, I forget quite often. My mum takes the same thing (except that she actually remembers to take it) and it pretty much controls her allergies. If she doesn't take it for a few days then she gets issues with itchy watery eyes, sinus problems etc. She starts taking them and all the symptoms go away.

No expert but I have read that the body can only absorb about 500mg every 4-6 hours. Any extra is excreted. So I guess if you could remember you could take it regularly th-out the day. What a pain, eh? So looks like timed-release might be the answer. I just wonder how does that work that only so many mg. are released and how often...? I have also read that if you take Vitamin E at the same time, you enhance antioxidant properties of both - C works on free radicals/internal cell chemistry and E works on cell membrane. C addresses water-soluble part of cells and E addressed oil-soluble....I do know that if I do forget to take my C for a few days, I can see the difference and feel (allergies) it. Hope that helps a little. |
