Wildflower, I hope you didn't think my comments were implying that you were incompetent, for that surely was not my intention!
I know that oils like raspberry seed oil, rosehip oil, and pomegranate oil aren't essential oils, but I didn't think they were carrier oils either! In fact, my brain was moving faster than my fingers - I meant to ask if there was another category of oils that they fit into.
As for directing a less experienced diy'er toward "cheap" products: NOT ME. In fact, my tendency is the opposite. An experienced formulator can sometimes combine products that are a little less luxurious, and compensate by adding small amounts of other ingredients. That's a skill that only comes with alot of experience. In fact, it isn't one that I have. One of the reasons that I'll often make something myself is that I don't want alot of cheap "filler" ingredients and all too often, commercial products are full of them. |

I think this is a great informative post on carrier oils even though the topic was started on grapeseed extract. I have been looking to explore more oils beyond my collection of jojoba, EVOO coconut, camellia and castor oil and am definitely going to look into raspberry and pomegrante oil.
wildflower, thank you for the info on the different carrier oils. i remember i used to think all the carrier oils felt the same, but when i expanded my collection and actually tested them on my skin and not just hair, i can definitely feel a difference.

Wildflower, I was very surprised to read your post, especially consider that the original poster clearly isn't an experienced DIY'er.
I think we all have our own favorite oils. I knew very little about cranberry seed oil, for instance, until Candy used it in her Triple C. It's lovely, lovely stuff to be sure.
With the credentials that you cite for yourself, I'm a little surprised at some of your recommendations. Evening primrose, pomegranate, cranberry seed, etc. are generally NOT considered to be carrier oils are they? They seem to be utilized in relatively small percentages as components of an overall formulation.
I cannot speak to the quality of New Directions essential oils. I don't use them for the most part. But, I've always been delighted with the products I've purchased from them. And, anyone who knows me knows that I'm not delighted easily, in fact, I can be quite a PITA . |
Hello Katee,
So, what did you buy from New Directions that you were happy with?
Thanks,
Wild Cat |
