kir royale
1 part Creme de Cassis
5 parts Champagne
Crème de cassis is a blood-red, sweet, black currant-flavored liqueur. It dates back to the 16th century, first produced by monks in France as a cure for snakebites, jaundice, and wretchedness. 
This cordial works well in pousse-cafés and some cocktails, but is most commonly mixed with just vermouth, white wine, or soda water.

I remember cooking a meal for some friends once. After two Kir Royales I didn't even notice that I'd badly burnt the entire length of my inner arm on a hot baking tray - until they pointed out the huge red blister to me.
Certainly cured my wretchedness! Couldn't feel a damn thing!  |

| Kir royale is my favourite cocktail - I hope you enjoy it Mabsy! Creme de cassis is also a great addition to any dry white wine to make it a bit more special. |
