Hi again sormuimui,
I am not too familiar with acids and have never tried the ISC Active at all so I am not much help, sorry.
I did manage to dig up an old post that explains a little:
Quote: |
You are so sweet. Mandelic Acid is used to help balance out oily skin
production and it really helps to shrink pores. With many people it also
cleans the pores but for this I recommend the Salicylic Acid. The other
Alpha-hydroxy Acids [like lactic] are used to essentially loosen the dead,
gummy cells from the surface of the skin to even the tone, help it to
feel smoother and essentially prep it for the Salicylic Acid. AHA's do NOT
clean pores out. |
http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=gardenofwisdom&msg=563.1
I don't know how much that helps you, but it mentions salicylic as something that cleans pores out. what is the difference between using salicylic acid toner and then the beta hydroxy toner?
I might be confusing you some more. I sent a PM to Markey so she should be here to help soon.

From what I know BHA = Salicylic Acid so they should be the same thing. There should be other threads on EDS explaining the definition of BHA - the FAQ thread has it (I *think*). I'm not too confused about that, I mainly just want to know which I should use for my own skin.
But OT for a sec, skincareaddicted, can you give me some ideas on where I can mix liquid BGs (when I get my hands on some) and to what quantities? I was thinking apart from being able to use it neat, I could mix it in my HA serum or moisturizer. How much would you put into a 1oz bottle of HA serum? |

Hi sormuimui,
Thanks for clarifying that BHA and Salicylic acid are the same.
As with mixing the liquid oat beta glucans, you can probably add as much or as little as you prefer (or your skin can take). I personally have used it neat and also mixed in the palm of my hand with a moisturizing HA serum, about a pump of each. My skin isn't allergic to the liquid BGs at all, so the proportion matters little to me.
Whatever proportion you decide to go with, i would advise experimenting with just a little of your HA serum and the liquid BGs so you don't ruin a whole bottle of your HA serum if the BG proportion is too much for your skin.
over at the SI board, there's been suggestions to use the liquid BG as a base for serums. I might try that with some pearl powder added since I have had a lot of success adding both to my creams.
I know Markey will have the liquid BGs in soon, but if you want to try them sooner, send me a PM, I have a few ounces to spare at actual cost.

Thanks for your offer Kristen but I'll just wait for GoW to restock since I want to also get some of their hydrosols and try their HAs. |

After all the glowing reviews of GoW I couldn't help but comment.
I wanted to get some liquid BGs from them when they had it in stocked. I got interested in some of their other products and their BHA 2% toner but I was unsure if I should get the 2% or the 5% so I emailed Markey (using the email provided by the GoW website). I got an email back about 5 days later telling me she will get back to my question and that she wasn't ignoring me. Ok, no problem, totally understand she's busy.
However it's been a while since that email and I have not gotten a reply not to mention that liquid BGs became out of stock shortly after. So apart from the fact that I never even got a reply about the BHA toner I was COMPLETELY disappointed that I couldn't get my hands on the BGs just because I wanted to put in a bigger order and save on shipping.
I'm not even bothering to email her again about the BHA as I don't plan on putting in the order until the BGs come back into stock. Needless to say my first impression is not a good one. |
Sormuimui,
Unfortunately I think your first impression is the impression of a few others. One of my faults is that I am to honest and as always I will tell you the truth. I switched computers and obviously forgot to bring your e-mail with some others to respond to. I do apologize for this and won't make excuses for it. I did a pre-buy for the Beta Glucans and business exploded. Trust me, I am grateful for this although we weren't ready for it. I refuse to trade quality for speed and my lack of communication has fallen behind as well. If you contact me privately I will gladly take care of your BG desires from my private stock. Thank you for bringing this to my attention as a public apology was necessary for others as well.
Have a wonderful day!

LOL Markey! You are too sweet
Also, I would like to say thank you again for making it possible for us to get a hand on the liquid oat beta glucans. I really love it.
And you're right, quality is definitely better than quantity. Markey, hope you can catch up soon, but your products are definitely worth waiting for.

Can anyone tell me if the GoW cleansing oil comes in a pump bottle, or just a toggle top? |

Marci,
The oil does come with a pump UNLESS it is
shipped Internationally and then it will
be delivered with a flip top cap.
We do this because the boston round bottles
will not fit into flat rate International
envelopes and we try to give the best options
for shipping cost.
Thanks for asking!

I just received my third order from GoW (so bad, considering my first order was sometime in January!). It has taken a little longer than usual, but still darn worth the wait and weight in gold .
I just wanted to let everyone know that Markey is once again backed up with orders and it could take anywhere from 7-10 days for orders to arrive. She is a one woman operation, and is currently looking for a suitable apprentice.

I have a question about the GOW Beta Glucans? I heard that it had tightening qualities and all they had in stock was the powder so I gave that a try. I mix about 2 TBSP in with a emu oil lotion I had. I think I over did the amount. I hate to put it on because the smell is so strong. It smells just like the oats I used to feed my horse. YUK. Does the liquid BG have that same strong smell. If so I think I will pass.

The liquid BG that I ordered from GoW doesn't have a strong smell at all. I don't think that it has any smell, will check it again in the evening. |

Hi patrod,
I agree with doba, i don't detect a smell at all from the liquid BGs.
I think you overdid the cream mix with the powdered BG. I did the same thing when i first got the powdered reishi BG, i just took a spoonful diluted that in water, and started mixing. the cream turned dark brown and was the same color on my face . I don't like working with the powder as much but i think if i added a lesser amount, i wouldn't have that problem. btw, it smelled like soy sauce!

What did you mix it in. Maybe that was the problem. Markey was talking about adding it to hylauronic acid, but that was the liquid.

Hi,
I have tried GoW finished products. I love everything I have ever bought and sampled. There are some reviews on her products here, just do a search for "garden of wisdom".
I have tried her cleansing oil, daisy brightening serum, moisturizing HA serum, vegetarian base cream, cranberry and blueberry toners. It seems like she only makes quality products! I just placed an order for oodle more raw supplies as well as finished products.
Was there anything specific you had a question about?

Does the Daisy Brightening Serum lighten scars? Or should I consider the Light n' Brite Serum? |

Hi patrod,
I mixed the powdered reishi BG into the skin cream I had at the time--cellular skin rx calming biolipid repair cream.
I actually bought some HA from Markey and plan on making some concoction with the liquid oat BGs but haven't done so yet. Right now, i use the liquid BGs mixed with pearl powder in my skin cream and also use the liquid BGs straight on my skin as a serum.
Hello Lisey,
The daisy serum seems to have lightened those darker pimple marks (not quite scars) on my face, but at the same time I am also using pearl powder in my creams so that might contribute to it. I just notice my face is overall brighter. I have been using GoW lite n' brite serum to spot treat 3 freckles, I haven't noticed any lightening yet but it has only been a week or so.

ISC Active Serum helps my breakouts a lot. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative for it though.. Don't think I can afford ISC in the long run.
Here are the ingredients:
Ingredients:
Purified Water, Butylene Glycol, SD Alcohol 40, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Arbutin Glycoside, Kojic Acid, Menthol, triethanolamine, Hispagel, Phenoxyethanol. |

Hi Lisey,
The daisy serum is super cheap, about $9 I think but i don't think it would be good for spot treating.
I have never tried ISC before and don't really plan on it either since I am trying to go more natural with my skin care.
If you needed spot treating for scars, i would recommend Markey's lite n' brite serum. It costs $28.65 for a 1 oz bottle. I don't know how much you're paying for ISC but from what i remember, ISC is pretty expensive.
The ingredients for lite n' brite serum:
distilled water
seamollient
grain alcohol
wildberry extract
L-alpha arbutin
kojic acid
hyaluronic acid
I hope that helps and i know what you mean by not being able to afford expensive products, i still can't believe i bought the cellcosmet eye cream!

Thanks Kristen! The ISC Active Serum is around $110 USD for a 1 oz bottle! I think I'll get the Lite N' Brite when I'm out of my Active Serum! What do you use to prevent your breakouts? The pearl powder cream? |

Hi Lisey,
I think the lite n' brite is really working! i have 3 freckles near the left side of my mouth, one is near my lip so it's hard to get the serum to stay i am sure since it probably gets rubbed or licked off, so i only use it at night. i wait til it dries then "seal" it with some seamollient. i see them getting lighter and lighter, so i am happy! I really hope you like it.
i am gonna make my own lightening serum after i am done with my lite n' brite sample size since i have some of the ingredients and have ordered the lightening ingredients from Markey. I am hopeful since another member from GoW has said her melasma patch has about disappeared.
I really think the pearl powder in my cream is helping prevent pimples though i typically don't get them anymore except during finals or other times of immense stress.
i have heard that you can just use pearl powder and water to spot treat existing pimples, which i tried once and it really did work! i think using the pearl cream everyday helps prevent any future eruptions.
ISC Active Serum is expensive! Since going more natural and DIY, i am saving a lot of money. I find i am becoming less receptive to just plunking money down for a small miracle product and am very discriminatory about ingredients.
I think the only thing i will continue to splurge on are C serums (i use skinceuticals c + e ferulic) since I am not so sure about the effectiveness of home made or small business C serums.

I had the same experience as Sormuimui, but I was not as disappointed since when I contacted Markey via my yahoo email, the liquid BG was already out of stock. Anyway, I found that Markey replies much faster if you PM her from EDS. Not sure if that's just a lucky shot or not. hehe
Anyway, Markey, I just placed an order on your web site, and I realized you had a disclaimer that you're in need of good help, so it might take 7-10 days before I get my order. That's not too bad. What I was wondering about is I went ahead and ordered the liquid BG, and I know it's a pre-order, so how does this work? When will you get it in stock? Just wondering if you can estimate the wait time on that?
Thank you.
