Obagi aroused my attention after studying its offical site and some positive user comments saying how the miracles it creates, yet, I did come across with unfavorable ones. I do want to give a try, but bcs it costs quite high to me, my mind keeps swining now, especially I got sensitive skin.

Anyone who tried/trying this brand could give me some advice?

Hi, I've been a 2 year faithful user of Obagi Nu Derm. I do the whole she-bang, minus their cleansers. (Too drying for me) I opted not to go on maintenance because I was so happy with the results. Only recently (coincidental to my finding this forum Bad Grin)I have begun to throw in some new products, mostly PSF O2 serum, and Decleor Iris Balm. I have semi-sensitive skin, and have never upped my retin-a % from .05. The first 8 weeks were not pretty, but I hung in there and have been thrilled. Primarily for me the Obagi "normalized" my skin. Hard to explain, but my skin became consistently good, going from something I obsessed about, to something I didn't think twice about. And I need and use far less make-up.The downside of Obagi is the initial ugly phase, and the fact that it's not a very "luxurious" system. No fancy bottles or smells, etc. And there are some who never get past the uglies---not a system for everyone obviously. So my advice would be to maybe buy a starter kit, and at least begin with a lower % of retin-a (.025-.05) Good luck! Hope this helped.

I've used the Obagi nu-derm since August. It dramatically helped with my skin tone (melasma, hyperpigmentation from acne). Since December, I reduced obagi to "my" maintenance; blender with Retin-A ( 0.1%) every 2nd or 3rd night. I've also started taking MSM, and use Quasar SP twice a week.
My skin is pretty tough, but I remember my Dr telling me at the beginning to only use the Retin-A 2-3 times a week to begin with ( at the 0.05%), and to adjust it according to how my skin reacted. To get improvement, you'll have to put up with a fair amount of peeling, but if your skin hurts or is bright red, cut back on the Retin-A. Good luck with it. Very Happy

I have been using Obagi for approx 8 weeks. The first two weeks I used it with tretinoin .01% ,the lowest concentration, and found that helped when I switched to a higher percentage. I am now on .1% and I experienced some redness and a little flaking for about 2 weeks and now I flake only occasionally. I have hormonal acne issues and nothing really worked to help control it, but I find the high concentration of retin-a every day has made my skin the best it has ever been. The system has improved my skin texture and tone, and the red acne scars have diminished significantly. It has only been 8 weeks and I can hardly wait to get to the next phase of rejuvination.

I think it is well worth the money. If you are afraid about the irritating effects on your skin, try starting with a very small concentration of retin-a like I did. Purchasing a starter kit is a good idea too - you can get a good deal from the EDS site.

But the starter kit doesn't include retin-a, do I need to buy additionally?

And the Obagi website states some of the products are for "RX only", what does it mean?

None of the kits come with tretinoin. You have to get the tretinoin by RX, in Canada at least. If you are in the states there are some sites where you can order it online without a RX. I think MedMex (or mexmed?) is one of them. The 4% hydroquinone in products is prescription strength but you can still get the products without a prescription.

Anyone know long term effects of obaji? I have been on Obaji for 2 weeks so far. I highly reccomend using the products with Retin A, under doctor supervision. While my skin is very raw and peeling, I can tell the results will be good. I see new skin under the peeling and it really looks great. I am very excited about the final results and will continue on the maintence program. Highly reccomend these products (so far).

My 14yold daughter uses obagi cleanser and for almost 2 years now. She likes it a lot, and besides the normal teenage pimple break outs here and there, her skin is in really good shape.

I've also used obagi blender with Retin A with amazing results. It's only recomended to do two or three times a week, because Retin A is so strong, and too much peeling goes on.
VERY effective however. Am waiting on my order of Retin A, and will be putting this back in my routine.

Hi I just started 11 days ago, the first 4/5 days I was red and peeling, then I read on a forum to use A&D diaper creme very lightly before I go to bed and it helped a lot against the redness, also tolereen works good too. Right now I only have peeling and no more redness. Will the peeling eventually stop ?

You know. If your products are causing redness and peeling ect...I would change.
Obagi and many other products like MD Forte are medicated products.
It could be too strong for your skin and may be stipping it.
I don't like the sounds of these irritations your having. I think I would change.

I started using Obagi 3 weeks ago with Retin-A 0.025%.
I experienced some mild peeling and redness. When I went back to see my dermatologist, she complained that I did not peel enough and asked me to use a bit more Retin-A.
I have been very cautious with using Retin-a since I was so afraid of the extreme peeling and flaking mentioned by a lot of users. I definitely used more moisturizer and sunscreen in the past 3 weeks to minimize the peeling and redness. I think I will follow my dermís instruction to use more Retin-a. That probably means I have to carry a tube of moisturizer with me 24 hours a day. Smile
By the way, I am very happy with my skinís improvement so far. Thatís why I donít mind the hasslesÖ

The tretinoin will cause some irritation and peeling... you will need to get rid off the old skin... that's why.

I must say, I'm not an exfoliation expert at all. I wonder how you can tell if you need exfoliation, or if you are drying out.

Are you in fact saying, exfoliation is needed?

So you have been using the complete program--ongoing for 2 years? Wow! Have you had any problems with that?

The main concern of using obagi longer term is not the tretonin but the use of HQ. Try a board search and google search on HQ.

I tried the whole obagi routine and it just didn't work for me. No results and my face was a peeling, irritated mess for months. It took months for my face to stop flushing after I stopped obagi.

Tretinoin also found in Retin A and Renova, is expected to have some redness and peeling (some have more others less)....

I use it for 2 weeks, and I do not have a lot of peeling or redness, my face is very soft and I used to have roseaca on my cheeks, which is all gone. Till now it works for me.

Hi Seeking HG! Yes, I've used the Obagi system for over 2 years and have had absolutely no problems--other than the first 6 weeks of uglies. My skin is the best it has ever been. Since finding this board I have added a few products to the regime. At night after cleansing I spray the PSF o2 before continuing with the rest of the Obagi products. And I have added the Decleor Iris Balm, which I apply last thing at night (over all the Obagi) In the morning after cleansing I apply Candessence C,E and Ferulic serum before the resy of the day Obagi products. And of course have discovered the wonder of the Dr. H Rejuvenating Mask, which I am using a few times per week. With the addition of these products I feel my skin has improved even more. BTW I have never increased the % of retin-a above .05. I purchased the .1% but my skin simply could not tolerate it, even after 6 weeks.

I didn't know you could use it that long. Are you under a doctor's supervision or have you just discovered that this regimen works long-term on your own?

Does anyone know about the results when using Tazorac instead of Retin-a with the Obagi regimen? I've heard it can be done, but I was wondering which is the best to use.
