Hi there, dannigirl. I'm 40 years old, and have had acne rosecea since I was about 13. It was misdiagnosed in the beginning, and it wasn't until I was in my 20th that I sought any serious help for my severe, cystic acne. I just figured I had to suffer with it. I really feel for you!
I have tried everything over the years: tetracycline, various cremes and nostrums for rosecea, Accutane ... They all work for a while.
Here's what's worked for me over the last year: Sage Advice's rosecea/acne package plus some Dermalogica products. Sage Advice's website is http://www.zerozits.com I ordered a sampler package for acne prone/rosecea skin and it did precisely what it said it would do -- clear up my acne (which had been flaring up badly) in 3 months and tone down the redness. Now my skin looks pretty darned good, and I can deal with the occasional pimple topically. You have to follow their directions VERY CAREFULLY, and truly give it three months. I was sceptical at first, but it really works. (I use their gentle creme exfoliant and sensitive skin cleanser in the shower every morning, followed by sun block and Old Lady Creme.)
In addition to the Sage Advice products, I use a few Dermalogica things that I really love. I use their Ultra Calming cleanser at night, followed by Active Moist. I use their Barrier Repair and Soothing Booster after gardening or sailing. Haven't tried the Dermalogica Clearing Gel etc., because I'm so happy with the Sage Advice stuff, but I do like Dermalogica in general. |

The Dermalogica Medicated Clearing Gel is quite effective at getting rid of pimples before they manage to fully develop (you know, when your skin gets red and the bit of a bump develops but there's nothing quite there yet...). The Dermal Clay Cleanser might also be a good option for you though, unless you have oily skin, it might be drying on a daily basis.
I think there's been a few reviews of the Dermalogica Medicated gel though. If you do a search (upper right hand corner) you should find a few previous reviews of it.
