Hi, came across this on another board, called a SkinDream ultrasound machine for at home use.
Web site iswww.mediconsult.tv (out of Germany).
Any thoughts? (good or bad, lol).

Soon my house will be overflowing with gadgets, lol!!
Unit is fairly pricey though, I believe $690.00 Canadian.

Are you pleased with it, Poohlisey? Does it do what it says?

Yes, I'm very please with it! To me, it does what it said on my face, because that's the only place I really use ultrasonic on so far. I've tried it on the legs 2x but since I only have 1 oz of conductive gel, I decided to try it on my body later. My face is the one that need serious care too Embarassed .

I love the results! It's the best beauty machine I've invested in Very Happy .

I am curious if anyone in the UK has used the UP5. I have been conversing with the contact person and in our last email she said:

Well - I am truly sorry. UP5 is a great device and it is very effective. As devices go - we are now selling it for couple of years and we had no single complaint about it. It sells a lot by actual recommendations - friend to friend. And it is shame that we cannot ship it to the USA. It is looked upon as iontophoresis device, which in the USA falls under the jurisdiction of FDA. If we were to ship it - it would only be stopped at the border and send back to us.

If you come to the UK or Europe on holiday - let me know. It is strange that you could take it with you from here to the USA and there would be no problem carrying it and using it in the USA. You are correct - you would only need to get a transformer to adapt it to the US voltage for it to work beautifully. It does wonders with the skincare!

That's funny because I was able to order the UP5 with the US Adapter from Winhealth in February 2006. So I must of narrowly squeaked by and got one before they shut the door on US shipments. Maybe somebody in Europe can buy one for you and you can use it with the transformer? It is nifty, well-built, and I love using it. I do my UP5 routine while watching TV. My husband gives me grief about it "talking" to me. It tells you what mode you are in. Each mode is about 3 minutes and it automatically stops when it's done, which is very nice so I don't have to time myself. If you want to add time, or switch to another mode, you just press on one button to cycle through all the modes. Being cordless with a recharger station is also very handy.

I need to explore using all of the modes, especially the cleansing mode. I only use the eye zone, lifting, and Vit C modes right now. I've never tried the music function either. It has alot of features for the price. You can adjust the level of intensity too.

Hope you can find one somehow...

Well theoretically you should still get a result with ANY Vit C serum and most charged products are only available to professionals. However I have seen them on EBAY (just check out the sellers) - I am planning on getting a UP5 come payday and will be using a Vit C charged gel from SBC (Simply Beautiful Cosmetics) which is available in the UK form QVC and from their website - if you google it there are lots of websites that stock SBC (you can also get it on QVC).

They also do a Vitamin E and a Collagen gel too - I will be getting these too.

These gels are charged +/- so will work with both a positive and a negative charge on the machine.

ETA: SBC Was originally a salon brand which is now available to the general public.
Found this website that delivers internationally and the shipping isn't too horrendous:

Sorry no I meant that the SBC gels were available from that website - unfortunately the UP5 is not available to the USA.
Well I'm not a scientist (hence my query about Mhz effects) but I have used both types or treatment when I worked as a Beauty Therapist (CIBTAC qualified).I'll try to explain it though!LOL! Laughing
Ultra sonic will be beneficial to the skin but it works in a different way to Iontophoresis. Ultrasound uses 'phonophoresis' (the same effect the ultrasonic device dentists use to remove plaque from your teeth.)

The effects of ultrasonic vibrations on the skin are, increased circulation and lymphatic drainage, both of which will enhance skin health. The tiny vibrations will help cleanse by loosening skin cells and debris in the follicles. Apparently the vibrations also cause the skin cells to contract to some extent.
The slight heat effect and increased circulation will also enhance absorbtion of products - there was a study done (will try to find the ref) that showed that the effect of skin lightening products was significantly enhanced by the application of Ultrasonic vibrations.

Here you go:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.0909-752X.2006.00186.x?journalCode=srt

The effect of phonophoresis is also used to enhance the effect of topically applied drugs (such as patches), it seems logical to assume that the same effect can happen with cosmetic topicals, although as with anything aplied topically a lot depends on the size of the molecules as to how effective it is.The effectiveness is still under scrutiny but it is hoped that it may mean some patients may not need injections in some cases.

Sorry - hope all that makes sense!! Very Happy

Anyway to simplify - yes both iontophoreses and phonophoresis have an effect on the skin, can enhance cleansing and potentially increase product absorption - but they do work in different ways.

Keliu - you're welcome! Very Happy
