Inspired by some of the great haircare advice here I have been doing alot of research on good products and trying some DIY of my own. I love subtle highlights in my hair but recently realised that my hair vanity kick was damaging so I have been easing off the haircolouring, styling etc and focusing on healthy hair again, preferably longer. I wanted to share my great experience using Australian Organics shampoo and conditioner. This is available in the UK at Holland & Barett. I used to use KMS shampoo for blond highlighted hair but it does contain sulphates and left my hair very dry afterward with the hair surface itself very frizzy. In fact I hated shampooing my hair for this reason.

To get the point this organic shampoo is excellent. I am using the intensive care version for dry, colour or chemically treated hair. It is gentle, does not strip my colour and is invigorating to use. It is not as foamy as regular shampoo but thats ok. I think foamy is just more detergent anyway. The conditioner is not too rich but good for everyday. If you are in the UK and looking to try a great organic hair line, I highly recommend this!

I am also using Keratin oil from Wella SP, coconut oil on weekends (from Holland & Barett again) and a little jojoba oil instead of styling products every day. So far my hair looks so much healthier and shiny. I do not use ACV rinse as for some odd reason my hair does not like it or maybe I am using it incorrectly. I have bought some seakelp to add to my experiments so will update. In between shampoos I have discovered dry shampoo which is a miracle to give hair oomph and volume esp. if I am traveling.

Australian Organics - Ingredients:

aqueous extracts of chamomile, lime blossom & birch (certified organic), tea lauryl sulphate (coconut derived), cocamido propyl betaine (coconut derived), horsechesnut extract, rosemary essential oil, lemon essential oil, peppermint essential oil, biotin.

Also contains castor oil and PABA for those who do not like these.

HTH

interested in DIY too since I have some essential oils which I didn't use for long. It's a good idea to use them up for shampoo making. Thanks.Very Happy

Hi Safire...too funny heh. Yes made in Oz but also bottled in the UK according to the package. Its always amusing when something is touted and no one in the country has ever heard of it. It reminds me of the goji berries in fashion now that the local people in the mountains know nothing about! But this brand is good and deserves your national moniker.

Fifi: Yes John Lewis is carrying more and more good lines. Today I saw Caudalie and Juice Beauty. I did not know that JBeauty was sold in the UK. Too bad it was a complete and utter waste of money for me.

Lindia99: I have got some avocado oil as well so just throwing everything in. But I think the hard decision is to just stop colouring my hair for a while. Maybe I can try a less harsh colouring agent than the salon stuff? I must do some research on that. Katee and Avalange shared some of their haircare recipes so thats a start from EDS.

Hi Blacklace! Just wondering how you are using the jojoba and coconut oils?
I know what it's like damaging your hair with colours and yet not wanting to give them up! I've been dying my hair blonde for years and then just decided that not only was it very expensinve but my hair was just getting worse and worse and now I've really learnt to embrace my natural hair colour and prefer myself with it! I find our natural hair colours always suit us best in the end Smile

I found a lot of Organic products quite drying, unfortnately, including this one.

My DYI inc putting tea tree oils (4 drops) into some shampoo, mix it with 2 teaspoons of Green Clay. I use it as the "second" wash and leave in it for 5 mins. Very invigorating.

I apply the Gernetic Hair lotion on damp hair and towel dry. Makes the whole scrap feels so light and effervescent as opposite to "tingling".

Have used this line with tea tree oil earlier and find it great for the winter months when my scalp tends to be very dry
